 to the outlaw vern mention. I've been a regular on his site for years. A big reason you never see me regularly discussing movies over here is because that site already gives me my fix in that regard.

I'm exclusively a lurker in the comments over there, but he's one of my go-to's. Which user are you?

Absolutely loved the movie. I hadn't seen any of the previous movies but now i'm certainly checking them out. Haven't seen such interesting action in a long while, they really made it something different and exciting.

Mad MAx not opening in China.

We had a good run and a pretty damn great film. Pack it in, boys.

Saw this the other day. Thought it was fantastic. One of the best movies I’ve honestly seen in years.

As for Hardy, I absolutely loved him as Max easily my favorite role of his I’ve seen yet. He reminded me of Eastwood from the Dollars trilogy, a lone gunslinger who speaks primarily with actions not words. Honestly, Hardy may very well my favorite thing about the movie which, considering how much I enjoyed the film, is really saying something. Admittedly, I can’t compare him to Mel. I’ve only seen the first Mad Max film (aside from Fury Road of course) and I saw it for the first time last night after getting back from the theater. I’ll be watching the other two sometime later this week.

Not too bad at all.
Near 50 mill for an R film, that's usually a good sign as far as R's are concerned.

Cool.

I really hope this movie has legs and it becomes a "sleeper hit" of the Summer. It deserves to make bank.

This was a really tame R rated film. I mean I can see why it was R, but there was hardly any language, they cut away from the really heavy violence, and there was basically no sexual stuff.

9,5/10. its that good. it is what it is.

:hmr:

i can not belive that :
-this script got greenlight
-that this movie went into production
-that WB after 1 year of testing still realesed the R rated cut
-that WB let them have all the black humor
-that George Miller at 70years is able to direct practical action scenes where you can see f.. everything. he destoryed directors like Snyder,Whedon,Nolan(ohhh yeah i went there),JJ....

Saw this last night. No doubt this will go down at the top of critics list as the best summer film of the year. I can see why, though I still preferred Avengers 2. While not the greatest thing in the world, it's such a welcome sight to see a kick ass R Rated film with emphasis on practical work. I loved Hardy as Max. It made me wish Mel still played him, but if there's any more, I more than welcome Hardy to continue.

And it's the only type of movie where you can see old women kick ass. :funny:

But really, terrific ****ing film. Now there are two watchable Mad Max films.

Personally, I agree with the R rating for this movie, simply because of the subject matter (with the sex slavery and all). And there was one particularly gory scene at the end that would not fly in a PG-13 movie (as quick as it was).

I would find it really funny and weird if something like The Avengers had the same MPAA rating as Fury Road. Age of Ultron looks G-rated compared to Fury Road (and that's not a knock on Age of Ultron).

Miller reveals title of the sequel

We've long known the director already has two more stories mapped out, and while he hasn't disclosed any plot details, he has teased that he's got a title for what would be the followup.

“We’ve got one screenplay and a novella. It happened because with the delays [on 'Fury Road'], and writing all the backstories, they just expanded,” Miller explained on The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith about the genesis of the followup films. And while he hasn't gotten around to storyboarding them —give the guy a break, he only finished 'Fury Road' a few weeks before it opened around the world— he says the next entry will be titled “Mad Max: The Wasteland.”

George Miller made this movie like a BOSS.

When I saw Fury Road for the first time, my first reaction was "THIS is how you do it, Nolan and Snyder!"

I'm "going there" with Nolan too, because I think The Dark Knight is his last great movie. All of his movies since have lacked good characters and good dialogue, in my opinion (I find TDKR to be watchable but perfunctory for Nolan, but I hated Inception and Interstellar). All of his recent characters have nothing but exposition for dialogue, and his movies have felt very cold and boring to me lately. Fury Road did not have much dialogue, yet it managed to give its characters personality and it made the audience understand everybody's motives very well. Fury Road made me care more about the old lady side character more than any of Nolan's main characters since TDK, to be honest. Nolan seems to like to (over)tell us his stories now, whereas George Miller showed us. And when it comes to action scenes between the two directors, well, it's a no brainer: George Miller wins.

And with Zack Snyder, well, there's not much to say because it's really no comparison. It's pretty much a one-sided contest here. :woot: Fury Road did what Zack Snyder wanted to do with Sucker Punch, but could probably never pull off.

almost every hand combat fight scene shows fists and legs punching the body .almost all shots are wide and with a steady camera. this is forbiden in PG13 . in pg13 they need to cut away when the fist touches the face.or they shake the camera so that they make a big blur and you dont see what happened. they maybe let them have less than 5 scenes. its all about intensity.
i think the Fury Road trailers are PG13. we can compare shots from the trailer and the blu ray. in the trailer they always cut away.

IMO

So I saw this movie over the weekend. I really enjoyed it. I loved Tom Hardy as Max. I'm completely unfamiliar with the original movies though. Is this a continuation of the Mel Gibson movies or a reboot?

I think it's more of a sequel, since the movie takes place where mankind has become THIS insane since the apocalypse (and Fury Road is seriously the most chaotic and crazy Mad Max movie yet).

At the same time, though, I don't think it's 100% necessary to have seen the other 3 beforehand, but it helps (especially if you want more information about Max). All of the Mad Max movies have some ambiguity to them.

So Miller was going for a mind **** movie that took place entirely in someone's head that double for an allegory on the male fantasy...
I suppose I can see some of that in fury road but at the same time it kinda seems more matter of fact.

Curious what these 'lesser' directors would do with the Fury road script as is to be honest.

To be fair, I wouldn't exactly call Nolan an action director. I wouldn't call any of his movies action movies. Even the Batman flicks. Nolan's wheelhouse is more toward cerebral films, which may or may not have some action.

Use CGI. :o
