Magnum P.I.

Like the legacy show we got the mad switch from a comedy episode to dark with Juliet being water boarded. So I guess for a.series theme we have switched from was Jonathan Quayle Higgins really Robin Masters to did Thomas Magnum do the things the books White Knight do?

However it was the best of the first three this season

And speaking of serious Ivan, I guess this one, when he makes an appearance wasn't an adviser to the Taliban which held the trio as prisoners

Nothing short of 5-0 instead of Det Katsumoto having a case which entangles with Magnum will suffice as a crossover in my eyes. Maybe the can also get LL Cool J and finally have their CBS SEAL reunion that got spoiled last time by Alex O'Laughlin's rehabilitation.
oh yeah that . I was hoping for seal team US Marin corp with Robert Patric, TC & Rick ( if scorpion didn't die) Delta force type thing But yeah, Jack is gone from McGuyver and the seal team 6 thing was or should have be more likely while LA is still currently around.

I agree it was the best of the three episodes this season, although the first one wasn't bad. Higgins turned into MacGyver this week with her breakout.

I guess it was inevitable that she would accept Magnum's offer.

I prefer the dynamic between Magnum and Higgins to the one between McGarrett and Danno, which I find to be rather tiresome.

I am surprised they didn't continue to drag out the decision. I guess Kumu will get more of the Jonathan plus Agatha roles from the legacy show as they go their own way.

On the other hand looking to the original along with dropping the Ivan bomb I think Captain Buck Greene was mentioned for the first time since the pilot episode.

I think Katsumoto takes on a bit of the traditional Higgins role already with his disapproval of everything Magnum does. Kumu doesn't really have that kind of dynamic with Magnum. And while there's a bit of that with Juliette, it's more of a clear sexual tension that's pushing them into Castle territory.

i really liking it!! nothing can beat the orignal magnum pi! i hope one day they could bring back tom selleck even just small cameo!! I think it be good idea have him be liked detective liked thomas magnum & then they could compete together!! did you know were tom selleck started? he plays in the 1970s detective show the rock ford files!! but he was kind of liked goofy detective!! i also heard that steven spielberg wanted tom selleck to play inida johns!! but im kind of glade india johns went to harrison forward!! cause tom selleck decided to do magnum pi instead of india Johns!!

From all that I have heard that like many can only see Tom Selleck as Magnum that he wanted no reboot of "his" legacy.

On the Rockford Files Tom Selleck played Lance White, the perfect detective in a world with PI's like Rockford, Vern St, Cloud and Richie Brockleman and everything always seemed to turn out right for him almost supernaturally when Rockford and his more cynical worldview wondering how did that happen. I would say that Richie Brockleman with the quickly candled spin-off was more on the goofy, so you underestimate him, side

Kumu seems to be taking the storytelling Higgins role along with the cultural facilitation. Juliet may have done the local Hawaiian society scene once in the first season.

On the Halloween episode while not a crossover they did put on a radio call of 5-0 needing back up on their 5 homicides that night while Katsumoto had a all hands on deck situation with an escaped mass killer. And sort of like Downtown Brown of Simon and Simon pulled a fast deputizing of Magnum

This was pretty much a Hawaii Five-0 episode this week.

They did mix up the pairings a bit though with characters who don't normally spend much time with each other.

I don't really like these holiday-themed episodes. I prefer normal ones.

.
The very opening scene with Detective Katsumoto racing to the crime scene looked exactly like 5-0 and when he called in all the reserves what about 5-0 since this would have been their case on their show came to mind. Maybe some inter-service rivalry that 5-0 had with HPD in the early seasons.

Higgins looked hot in a bikini this week. She doesn't normally dress like that.

Seems like Magnum is working more with Katsumoto now. Also Lee Majors was in this episode.

They do seem to be telegraphing the inevitable Magnum-Higgins relationship even more.

Apparently, Magnum will go on hiatus in the winter:

CBS 2020 Winter Schedule: ‘Criminal Minds’ Final Season, ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ Moves – Deadline

Starting February 7, CBS will revert to the Friday lineup of the last three seasons... MacGyver at 8 PM, Hawaii Five-0 at 9 PM and Blue Bloods as the 10 PM anchor. Magnum PI, which currently airs at 9 PM following Hawaii Five-0, will go to the bench to make room for MacGyver. It will return with the remainder of its episodes once MacGyver finishes its season.

Boo. When does that mean it will return? In May?

It didn't used to be on Friday nights.

I guess when you look at it McGarrett has been off of active duty for 10 years and would be a closer match to Agent Hanna of NCIS:LA. Junior/Magnum does seem to be a natural we knew of each other form the teams pairing.

Maybe Juliet did dress more varied in the first season As part of magnum to Higgins that the show evolved into as the action hero she wears jeans and boots with the heels.

However it looks like the last two episodes before the hiatus has put the Magnum to Higgins show on hold as Captain Buck Greene is coming back and we saw the SEAL/Marines team in Afghanistan flashbacks.

I didn't find the flashbacks as interesting as a regular episode where Higgins plays more. I don't remember who is Buck Greene. Also I thought there was a H50 crossover coming up, so is that happening after the hiatus?

The crossover will be two hours back to back on January 3, 2020

The legacy USMC Colonel Buck Greene/Lance LeGault was Magnum's last commander in Naval Intelligence and a reoccurring character most often appearing when spy stuff and Vietnam came up. Mac and later Maggie worked for him in the Pearl Harbor Naval Intelligence office and was Magnum's normal spy contacts but that role has been taken over by Juliet's MI6 contacts

The current Buck Greene/James Remar is a USN Captain and Magnum's former SEAL CO who was in the pilot episode who I think also went to Naval Intelligence after SEAL service like legacy Magnum. But the new Magnum did not work there, leaving the service after escaping the POW camp. Buck, like other legacy names were introduced in the pilot to only disappear in the first season and a half like HPD Lt Tanaka (who incidentally was Detective Katsumoto in the original teaser trailer but got fixed for broadcast like Staff Sergeant Calvin was fixed into Major Calvin).

For what its worth the last episode played more like legacy Magnum,PI with Juliet being more in Jonathan Quayle role and with the promo of Magnum being a contract asset for Buck in the next episode. This was after weeks of reading on line that the new show is more Hart To Hart than Magnum PI.

This was one of those times I really miss Bellasario. Somehow Thomas got demoted to Lieutenant, only to still have his Lieutenant Commander rank insignia on in the opening credits. The naval services don't salute when not wearing a hat. I will give them a pass at the end of the show when they nerfed Captain Buck Greene, but not at the beginning when Thomas was reporting for reserve duty. The introduction of Ivan was rather lame to me. But then going into the crossover Hawaii 5-0 introduces Wo Fat's widow along with Ivan engaged with Ivan on Magnum.

The only aired promo from both shows was McGarrett driving Robin Master's Ferrai and Magnum asking what was going on. However CBS released plot details which does seem to spoil H50.

HAWAII FIVE-0: “Ihea ‘oe i ka wa a ka ua e loku ana?”
– When a list of undercover CIA agents is stolen, Steve and Five-0 enlist the help of Magnum (Jay Hernandez), Higgins (Perdita Weeks), Rick (Zachary Knighton) and TC (Stephen Hill) to get it back and protect national security. Also, Higgins gives Tani some personal advice, on HAWAII FIVE-0, Friday, Jan. 3 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

(“Ihea ‘oe i ka wa a ka ua e loku ana?” is Hawaiian for “Where were you when the rain was pouring?”)

MAGNUM P.I.: “Desperate Measures”
When Junior (Beulah Koale) is kidnapped as leverage to retrieve the stolen list of undercover CIA agents, and most of Five-0 is rounded up by the CIA to prevent them from interfering, Tani (Meaghan Rath) and Quinn (Katrina Law) ask Magnum and Higgins for their help, on MAGNUM P.I., Friday, Jan. 3 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Well it was a better episode this week than last week's one. I'm guessing Ivan will be a recurring villain.

I hope its deja vu all over again and Ivan see's his destined end. There is still a chance that he set up Magnum's team to be taken prisoner in Afghanistan. While Wo Fat was prematurely dispatched with for the 100th episode instead of being the last villain like he was for Jack Lord, Ivan holds a different place in TV history.

Is Ivan from the original series? I don't remember all the details of the original.

Did You See The Sunrise season 3 of the original, it was also the only Nuzo appearance. It is a famous TV episode because of the hero taking an action, perhaps for the first time on network TV. Almost 40 years now and I don't want to spoil it

It takes all kinds shows to make up a network TV schedule. Sometimes, there’s highbrow stuff like The West Wing; sometimes the effort is more lightweight and escapist like Castle.

But even by the latter standard, I don’t think Magnum PI is particularly well written.

At its “best,” Magnum presents a serviceable, paint-by-numbers “case of the week.” And upon this foundation, the strength of the series (to the extent it has one) is the characters/actors’ chemistry - whether that’s the comedy relief provided by Rick and TC or the sexual tension between Thomas and Juliet.

Where Magnum goes off the rails is when it attempts a more “serious” episode that heavily relies on a “complicated” mystery or a nuanced plot. Like the last episode. :word: Bluntly put: the show either doesn’t know how to write these types of stories or chooses not to write them.

They should stick with the lighthearted procedural format. That’s their genre niche. Embrace it.
