OKLAHOMA CITY - State lawmakers are considering throwing out marriage in Oklahoma.

The idea stems from a bill filed by Rep. Mike Turner (R-Edmond). Turner says it's an attempt to keep same-sex marriage illegal in Oklahoma while satisfying the U.S. Constitution. Critics are calling it a political stunt while supporters say it's what Oklahomans want.

Think this is great, step in the right direction.

Sigh... Matrimony exists as both a civil institution recognized by the state, and a religious sacrament. The state doing one thing has nothing to do with the other. I truly think most can't make the distinction about this. No one is trying to change the tenets of the church. NO ONE. Some just want equality under the law, but if your religion still insists on thinking the gays are going to burn in eternity and denies them the right to marry in the church, they could still do that even if the government acknowledged the lifetime (ideally) bond between 2 homosexual people.

Kinda puts things in perspective doesn't it. This is what two people in love must do in most parts of the world, run or hide. Because they're out of norm.

So gays can form a church called The Church of Gays, and get married to their hearts delight. Likewise, religious heterosexuals can do the same thing they've always done.

Or just go to the Unitarian Church, United Church of Christ, various other denominations that don't believe homosexuality is a sin and marry gays all the time.

This is just absolutely amazing. i'm just picturing in my head some bigot in the most hammy monologue possible going off on how if the gays can get married, then nobody can! That and I just love the conundrum that is developing in that there is equality for all in the law, but it's being done for the most ignorant reasons possible.

This is pretty funny, if people can't get married then they can't get the tax benefits of marriage

So gay marriage is even a bigger issue to Oklahoma to Republicans then less taxes

I've been for this forever. Get the government out of marriage. There is no need for it, and in the end, stop with the ridiculous alimony crap (something I do not agree with at all).

Let the churches or institutions sort all of that out.
