Making Spider-Woman work in the MCU

There are several characters I wouldn't mind Marvel/Disney sidestepping for the MCU including:

Spider-Woman
Hercules
She-Hulk
Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver
Tigra
Red Hulk

That's not to say I'm entirely opposed if they wanted to make a solid effort at adapting them... I just hope they focus on a few more obviously integral ones and do those well:

Black Panther
Doctor Strange
Ms Marvel
Vision
Namor
Luke Cage

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were two of the earliest to join the Avengers, so I wouldn't be opposed to seeing them joining, especially because I think it would be hilarious to see Quicksilver hit the big screen before The Flash.

However, the problem with introducing them to the MCU is that it introduces the notion of mutants all together. And that would be a game changer for the MCU.

After reading through that thread, it is obvious that you and others will take any scrap of information and give it meaning because you want it to mean something. You state on many occasions throughout that thread that Spiderman is your favorite character and you believe he should be included in the MCU and that's fine. I would like Spiderman included too, but I don't believe it is in Marvel's interest to do so as long as Sony has those rights.

As I have stated, the MCU is Marvel's pie. What is the incentive for Marvel to give up their piece of that pie to another company? The MCU is doing fine without Spiderman.

I am going to repeat what others said in that thread, merchandising and the films are two separate things. It is well known there is an agreement between the companies on merchandising. It is well known that Sony owns the right to Spiderman on film into the foreseeable future. Just because an Oscorp logo is used in merchandising does not mean Marvel will use Spiderman in their films. Spiderman merchandise looks like all the characters and items from the Spiderman movies. Using an Oscorp logo in merchandising is expected and means nothing.

Believe facts, not speculation. Don't make up connections to things just because you want them to exist. Until something happens, nothing has happened.

I know I am not going to convince anyone who does not want to be convinced, and you are not going to convince me without facts. This was a thread about Spiderwoman's viability in the MCU so let's go back to that.

Feige stated they could be used but they just couldn't call them mutants

I wrote a synopsis of what a Jessica Drew film could be on the first page. What do you guys think about it, could it work for the MCU?

I've pondered ways to handle mutants in the MCU. I think the best way, while still a kludge, would be the have the rise of the mutants be several decades in the past. People haven't talked about mutants in the current movies because the big conflcits over mutant rights were back in the 60s and 70s, and the number of mutants has declined with the end of large scale nuclear testing. Thus, the fact of superhumans is real and known, but its not a huge dominating social issue.

Like I said, its a kludge, but its probably the best kludge you can manage. The only viable alternative is having mutants appear suddenly *right now*, for new, and that would have its own set of huge problems.

I liked artistsean's Arachne adaptation. That works.

Did anyone *not* think Spider-Woman was connected to Spider-Man when they first heard of her?

Well that's one thing we'll never have to worry about because FOX is never handing over their prized race horse

If Spider-Man/MCU comes to fruition would adding Jessica Drew to the supporting cast work? Or atleast cameo?

I think Tatiana Maslany would be an awesome Jessica Drew!

Yes.

I really want to see the Carol Danvers/Jessica Drew friendship on-screen. Sony is vulnerable, Marvel! Now is the time to strike!

The excuse was that it's hard to explain her origins with that name without a Spider-Man in the MCU. Well if this deal goes down no more excuses. Take bits and pieces from the origin they'd think fit the MCU and make Spider-Woman a star.

That's what I'm hoping for too! And sony is very, very vulnerable! (although sony might not even have her rights to begin with, from what I've heard)

There's a good retelling of her origin called Spider-Woman: Origin by Brian Michael Bendis that I think could fit the MCU really well, especially in current MCU since it's heavy on Hydra

I would hope Spider-Man wouldn't have role in a Spider-Woman movie since she has nothing to do with him.

I was thinking maybe Coulson or Fury would send Jessica Drew to keep an eye on Spider-Man and be apart of his supporting cast. That's just one way to make it different fron Sony Spider-Man. It's just hard to intro Spider-Woman with her name without doing it through Spider-Man first. Seems like they can change that now.

No it's not. She gets spider-based powers, and calls herself Spider-Woman. Then, if Peter Parker ever joins the MCU later, he can choose his name based on hers, instead of vice versa. That seems fair; problem solved! :oldrazz: :funny:

They could just call her Jessica Drew. Although, people might confuse her with Jessica Jones.

Interesting

Hmmm...I hate Bendis so I do my best to avoid stuff he's written, but I might need to make an exception and check this out.

Well, it's not awesome. The artwork is very.... I guess the best word is "bleh" and in spots it feels pretty rushed. It touches on some cool elements though, like her parents(her dad is a freak!) and gives some cool insight on her days at hydra (but not enough IMO, she really doesn't do anything to dark in her hydra days, I would've liked to see them go that extra mile)

Interesting. Well even if it's not great I'll probably read it, as I now realize I've never read any origin story for her. I mean, I know her origin just from years of geekdom, but I've never actually read it, lol.
