Man of Steel vs. Pirates- who wins box office?

If SR only makes back it's budget in the domestic and international markets combined, then it will be a terrible failure for the studio. The box office gross is in no way a representation of what money goes back into the studio's pocket, and many estimate that SR will have to make around 600 million world-wide for Warner Bros. to actually make a profit from it. With Pirates 2 coming out in two days, the cances of SR even grossing it's budget are looking slim. I think that word of mouth for this movie has been pretty bad so far, because I haven't really met anyone who says that they actually liked it. I've only heard "It was okay, but I thought it was a dissapointment.", and not the "ZOMG best comic movie EVERZ!" like on the internet.

SR has re-watchable effect, so it also have good legs to continue making money.

Now I think it will make about $215m domesticly, $238m in overseas and $453m in worldwide.

Box Office Report predicts $120 million for Pirates in its opening weekend, and a 52% drop for Superman. Should be interesting to see how close they come to the actual numbers. They have a tendency to overestimate opening weekend numbers (have done so for most summer movies so far), and $120 million is a lot of money...

Still doubtful, I think it will make $90-100m, because the movie is 150 mins.

Maybe he's saying that people maybe jumping the gun saying that POTC 2 will make $105 - $120 million. I tend to agree seeing the slew of "box office blockbusters" that have failed to even pass $250 million since May. Each year there seems to be a May release that has done $300 +. This year there was none. I have to say it wouldn't surprise me if Pirates did well but not $105 million well.

WB confirmed that SR's official buget is $204m, so if it will make more than $205m, it will not be flop

It wont be a flop but it wont be considered a success. It has to make a considerable amount of money. I think itll be ok though. The movie will do good overseas IMO.

Well, I also think it will make more than budget, $215-220m.

Overseas? I really doubt it will do well, because:

A) There is POTC2, which will get all overseas numbers.

B) Look at X-Men and BB.

But I am sure it will make more than $400m.
