Man vs. Wild

So a fake bear attack and sleeping in hotels invalidates the survival tips he gives?

Yes. Simply because many of his survival tactics were needlessly dangerous as well. Even before all this came out I never took what he said seriously. Everything he did was for dramatic effect. Would be to much of a risk in a real survival situation.

Not to mention he snuck up on fish with a stick. I mean come on!!!

I heard them talking about this hotel stuff on the radio the other day.

Man, do you think this will hurt Bears chances for a new season?

I like Survivorman too but Bear is more charismatic.

survivorman is talking to himself. bear is talking to the camera man(men) that are around him. its fairly obvious whos going to be more charismatic. but lets keep it genuine.

If the AOL poll from a few days ago speaks for many, then yeah......its going to hurt.....right now the Ch. 4 in the UK are investigating all of the rumors....it doesn't look good at the moment....

Wtf are you talking about? Both men are talking to the camera/audience, the difference is Survivorman is alone (sopposedly :whatever:) and Bear has the camera crew. The charisma has nothing to do with who is, or is not there, it's down to personality..and Bear has more of it.

Speaking of which, i thought he clearly stated that they weren't allowed to talk converse with each other (he and the cameramen); yeah, you hear him telling them to move and whatnot but you don't hear them respond. He has also commentated on how lonely he is during his escapades. He has clearly stated the rules over, and over again.

I watched one episode of this and I loved it, to bad it was a fake.

The ones that could be viewed as risky are the climbing parts. Not everyone was in the British Special Forces so they would generally lack the strong legs to succeed. And the drinking of urine to replenish fluids and squeezing the water out of elephant dung would be used in flat out life or death situations.

But the various shelters, first aid techniques from various plants, methods of staying hydrated, various methods of preserving body heat, and methods of getting nourishment are useful.

I think it could be awhile before we hear news on the new season of Man vs. Wild. I'm surprised Bear hasn't even commented on what's being said about the show.

Yeah, it could very well cause Discover Channel to maybe reconsider renewing the show.

i hope they renew the show cause i hate surviorman. its annoying

Survivorman has about as much charisma as a dead dog, compared to Bear.

Anybody actually know who i fact started the allegations on Bear..?

For all we know this could be just a stupid tabloid style rumor from a rival network or whatnot to smear the shows high ratings.......

Industry rumors usually mean someone from inside the show.....

I believe most of the allegations to be true....The Discovery Channel certainly is not strongly disputing any of them.....

This pretty much tells you the whole story....

July 25, 2007

He was born to be wild -- but only after a hot shower and room service.

The Discovery Channel has issued a statement in response to an investigation into its popular series "Man vs. Wild," following allegations that the show's host, Bear Grylls, had a little help battling the wild: a motel.

"Discovery Communications has learned that isolated elements of the 'Man vs. Wild' show in some episodes were not natural to the environment, and that for health and safety concerns the crew and host received some survival assistance while in the field," the network stated.

The series' production company, Diverse Television, is cooperating with British television's Channel 4, which carries the program under a the name "Born Survivor: Bear Grylls."

Channel 4 confirmed that Grylls had spent the night indoors on at least two occasions when the series had led viewers to believe he was spending the night in the wild.

Sort of like a modern day Tarzan, Grylls is airlifted into the wild with only a few survival tools, such as a flint or water bottle. The reality show hunk, who has appeared on several talk shows to the screaming delight of women of all ages, served in the British Special Air Services. On the show, he reportedly survives for several days with no outside assistance.

Grylls has been filmed stranded in the deadly swamps of the Florida Everglades, paragliding onto the edge of the Andes to follow rivers into the Ecuadorean jungle and demonstrating how to make a snow cave, find water in deep tunnels and avoid frostbite in Iceland's arctic environment.

But if there's a warm bed waiting nearby, just how impressive are these stunts?

Among the Grylls grievances is an episode supposedly set on a deserted island (actually Hawaii) that shows him building a raft, which was actually constructed and then disassembled by show consultants so that the host could easily put it together.

And though Grylls claims to be a horse wrangler, another charge maintains that the wild horses Grylls happened upon in the Sierra Nevada were not so wild, and were in fact from a trekking station.

The Discovery Channel gave no indication it was ditching the show entirely. Instead, the show will be tweaked.

"Moving forward, the program will be 100 percent transparent, and all elements of the filming will be explained upfront to our viewers," Discovery said in its statement. "In addition, shows that are to be repeated will be edited appropriately. Bear Grylls is a world-class adventurer and a terrific talent."

^ Wow, well atleast it's still going to air. I wonder how they're going to tweak it?

They will probably let us know what is actually real, and what isn't......as far as the stuff that is reruning, as they said....edit the false parts out.

Wow, that would be something if they told us what was real and what isn't. It would kind of take out the thrill imo. Editing the false parts out should be interesting though, i wonder what they're going to do to really fix them.

I'm going by the quote from The Discovery Channel....

"In addition, shows that are to be repeated will be edited appropriately. Bear Grylls is a world-class adventurer and a terrific talent."

Bear explained on both Letterman and Conan why there is camera crew that follows him. One, it's to film the footage and two he explained that the camera crew has there own tents to sleep in while Bear finds and makes his own shelter. They also go through what Bear does.

sure :whatever:

Guess we'll have to see how that plays out.

Yeah, what Bear had to say really doesn't count for anything anymore.

i can't stand survivorman, i pray manvwild stays on the air.

when does MvW replay?

when is new season?

I don't know when the second season will air again. Word is Discovery Channel is editing some of the episodes due to what happened with the show.

As for a new season, I haven't heard anything new about it so far.

I like both. Plus, the new season of Surviorman has been really great so far.

I guess there is a new show airing next friday. I might watch to see if he gets mauled by a door man that he didn't tip. Or gets the wrong order from room service. Hotels can be treacherous territory. He is a brave man, & I commend him.

I just pray to god he at least has a mini-bar.
