Marisa looks like a younger version of Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Um no....lol. I think you meant older version

So my sarcasm flew over your head did it?

Let me remind you what you wrote:

Oh yeah, let's hire the actress who shagged Howard the Duck as an ironic reminder rather than think outside the box like right now....

First off, to answer your question directly, there is a sarcasm evident in your post and of course I picked up on that, just like I'm picking up on the *****ey attitude now. But it's not sarcasm in a humorous, joking way, but more in a dismissive tone about not thinking outside the box. So in fact, going exactly by your words now (and note, you haven't used the word "humour" but "sarcasm"), all you're really asking is whether I detected whether you had a cutting attitude earlier, and the answer is a resounding yes.

It's like if I were to say to you "yeah, you're clever aren't you? :whatever:" Is there sarcasm evident there? Yes. But is it a jokey tone? No. The sarcasm is used as more of a put down.

Second, there weren't any smileys in your post to suggest you might not be serious. Is it a reasonable assumption to read your post as Lea Thompson being too associated with a previous failed comic movie and Marisa Tomei being far more left field, less predictable and not safe? Of course. Because it's a typical thing people would write when there is a surprise casting that no-one expects.

So quit with the belittling and high horse attitude now implying I couldn't understand your "humour" when your earlier sarcasm wasn't indicating at all that it was to be understood as a joke but was used in more of a cutting way.

Handbags down, ladies. Let's just all MARVEL at the sight of the beautiful Marisa Tomei...whom looks nothing like Aunt May, and whom I will never accept as the character...unless she dyes her hair grey or white...yeah.

Personally I would like her not to be grey. With Tom being so young I don't think the eternally decrepit version of Aunt May really fits.

Aunt May doesn't need white or grey hair. If at 50, Marisa still looks youthful, and if many other women at that age still look youthful, then it's quite plausible that a modern Aunt May would be in good health and shape. She really doesn't need to look decrepit.

Does RDJ, who is the same age, need to add white or grey streaks to his hair? She can just be a contemporary of Stark.

Maybe he dated her in high school. :oldrazz:

I think in this day and age maybe him having an Aunt May that's still kinda in her prime, kind of a cougar, :o makes more sense. She may be doing a lot of temp jobs or something and they may still be hurting for money.

Then she's not Aunt May. Simple as that :)

I suppose you'd prefer Vanessa Redgrave or Dame Maggie Smith?

They both look old enough to be Marisa Tomei's mother.

They could be Aunt May's mother, also named May, and Peter's great aunt. That way you'd have both Ultimate Aunt May and Classic Aunt May, but Peter's actual aunt wouldn't look like his grandmother. It would be Great Aunt May who is frail and in ill health and on death's door, but Aunt May would be more of the mother figure who has raised Peter.

That I would actually quite enjoy :hehe:

But really, you put this guy

next to someone like her

and does she look remotely like his aunt? If you ask anyone who isn't a comic fan to guess the relationship between these two, they will automatically say she is his grandmother. She could even look like his great grandmother.

If people really want the elderly May, then a simple change in making her Great Aunt May would solve everything.

Ah, Dame Maggie Smith. Always makes me giggle that British comedy legend Ronnie Barker (The Two Ronnies, Porridge) supposedly told her she'd never make it as an actress.

The problem now with Marisa Tomei is that if you did want to get Maggie Smith as her mother, they do not look related at all. You'd have to find an older Italian woman like Sophia Loren for Great Aunt May. But she looks quite the horror now at 80 because she's probably had too much surgery:

Or Gina Lollobridgida might be a better choice at 88. At least she looks more natural.

Gina looks more similar to Marisa anyway.

How about Raquel Welch as Great Aunt May?

She's not Italian, but she does have Bolivian roots which give her a Spanish/ continental look. She's 74 and old enough to be Marisa Tomei's mother and Peter's great aunt. She would be a Hollywood legend and big name to add to the cast.

This discussion is beginning to scare me.

Yeah its getting kinda of weird. Still, most of the initial reaction i've seen on line to the casting has been positive with not as much nerd rage as one would expect.

A lot of Oedipal implications going on,lol.

I don't see what's weird. It's separating Ultimate May and 616 May into two separate characters. If you have both Aunt May and Great Aunt May (as her mother), it allows you to have the best of both worlds and avoids the complaints directed towards Marisa Tomei apparently being too young.

Those wanting the classic elderly, frail and decrepit aunt get Great Aunt May, while those wanting a more modern and realistic portrayal that isn't a granny get the younger Aunt May. Younger May could be taking care of her sick mother, the older May.

But the older May has to be played now by someone who looks continental or Italian since we already have Marisa Tomei. If they cast a different actress for Aunt May, we could've had Dame Maggie Smith as Great Aunt May who would be the classic 616 image, just shifted one generation.

I don't see what the problem is, she is 50 years old and is the perfect age to be peters aunt. Yes she is still really hot but so what. I like the casting.
