Marvel Legends, Selects, Universe- Thread - Part 1

This was announced yesterday as a Disney exclusive marvel select that should be out by the end of the year. It's a pretty sweet looking select, so it's a pick up for me.

They also announced the Cap 2 Selects as Stealth Uniform Cap and movie Falcon. Too bad there isn't a movie Winter Soldier, but this one will do.

My shop got the whole wave. I snagged an Emma. Beautiful sculpt. She might be a hair big though. You stand her up straight next to Cyclops, he looks like her little brother.

how much they going for? any chance you can snag some for me?

Well, when they had them they were asking $21.99 each. But as of yesterday, all they had left was Sabretooth and a badly painted Cyclops. But yeah, if you want, I'll grab 'em for ya if they're still there.

well, do you know if they will be getting any more? The price is fine, I just don't know if it will be cheaper getting sabes solo right now, and the other 3 single, or getting all 4 together which i can get for about $100. If they wont be getting any more i'll just hold out I guess.

Sabes is the last on my list of wants.. but i do want Emma, Cyke and Wolverine. I needs me Puck!

I've been out of the loop for a bit, but what did they say they were going to do with that running change comic Blade we never got?

Well according to hasbro the unreleased variants/running changes from the last 3 waves have been made, and are sitting in a warehouse. Its the distribution that's screwed everything up. ( which makes sense because i only saw one case at local walmarts for each of the last 3 waves.... I never saw them ever get a restock. I just got lucky enough to be there at the right time.

Meijer is the only store I've seen a restock . Still very slim though.

And target is still the peg warming king, never gotten anything past the zola wave.

They mentioned they may do a toys r us exclusive wave full of the variants. Or start sneaking them into future waves (like the rogue figure got bumped to about x-men wave tied into dofp)

That's lame. WHY does Winter soldier have guns but the other Disney Widow didn't?

I saw the Wolverine Legends the other day for $22, they had 5 of each figure. Went back the very next day and they were gone. One guy bought them all.

People like that ruin collecting. You can't get things in stores anymore because of *******s like this. You just have to submit yourself to eBay and Amazon, which is just no fun.

So I'm kinda new to collecting. I have a lot of the NECA Gears of War figures and a lot of the DC Direct Batman Arkham figures. I want to start collecting Marvel figures. I'm just wondering whether to with Select or Legends? I want a figure that is highly detailed and not too toyish. With that in mind, I'm leaning towards the Select figures. I'm just looking for any input from you guys. I like to put my figures on a shelf and admire them, lol, so the line that presents the best detail is what I'm interested in.

The selects definitely have the better sculpts and detail. They never reuse the same body type, which legends will usually reuse the same sculpt. They're pretty good detail plus they typically come with a pretty solid base. I think the new Winter Soldier Disney Exclusive Select is a perfect example and executes all that you are asking for.

The selects "sometimes" have the better sculpt and detail. Some are pretty atrocious, but you'll find that in any figure line.

For me id say a major factor should be display. Do you want a collection of standing statues, or them in poses. Marvel Select is sorta like DC direct. There's only so much you can do with them. I namely collect legends. But i nab a few selects for their bases and the fact some characters haven't been made into legends.

Legends will always have more characters to buy then marvel Select. So there's that factor as well

The figures I have now don't have displays but I think they are cool. Again, they will be on a shelf and stuff so base would be nice for each of them. I think Hasbro and Mattel (for DC) do a nice job, but I feel they are in the children's action figure bussiness (no disrespect to collectors who do buy them) so I want something that looks really nice without paying that statue price. I like the fact that Select only have around 100 figures made, it will be easier to keep track of what I have and do have and it will be easy for me since compared to Legends I won't have to really break the bank.

Select scales each figure right? I know DC Direct will give appropriate proportions to their figures so Penguin isn't the same height as Batman, and characters like Grundy will tower over Batman. Marvel Select has appropriate proportions too, right?

Select tries to. But.... No, they aren't all exact scale with each other. Some bigger selects are actually in scale with legends.

Its a lose/lose with either line on scale.

That also being said.... Legends are hardly "toys" *shakes fist* some are actually more detailed and better than selects imo. I've never liked a select spiderman

But their venom is the best ever

I didn't mean to insult. I mean, Mattel at least makes some pretty bad figures if you looking for detail.

I liked the ToyBiz Legends but the new Hasbro figures just don't look that great, IMO.

Hasbro has picked up the detail lately with their legends, but select puts an incredible amount of detail into those figures. They never reuse the same sculpt, where as legends tends to reuse the same sculpt on multiple figures. Do not get me wrong, I like the legends line but it's due to the amount of characters they try to put out. I believe it's more true to the comics/characters adaptation when you release new sculpts with great detail.
