No, it was Annie. Joe Q said that MJ was actually pregnant during One More Day, and that basically "aborted" her. I think it was him that said that. It's been a few years.

I was always kind of weirded out by a scene in I think a New Avengers book after Luke Cage and Jessica Jones had their baby girl. And all their friends come to see the baby. Mary Jane's reaction is really weird and felt out of character to me. Mary Jane seemed to be flippantly talking about not wanting the baby to throw up all over her and wanting a baby but not wanting it to throw up on her. I could be misreading this, but Peter seemed a little sensitive about the whole thing. Like he was sad and put off by the way Mary Jane was acting.

I'm not a Bendis hater or anything. But I guess one issue I have with his superhero comics is that when he writes other heroes, he tends to impose his will and voice on them and tends to ignore what past writers have done with them.

Huh, I didn't remember Dani being born before the OMD deal. Not that I try very hard to remember that era of Spidey...

Yeah Dani Cage was born in 2006 pre-Civil War, Secret Invasion, One More Day.

This was when Spider-Man, Luke and Wolverine were all still Avengers.

Issue #4 is out tomorrow!

I have enjoyed the 3 perspective run over the past 3 issues--it was a neat idea from Conway to use that exposition. But I'm also anxious for this series to really take off and tomorrow's issue should be the start of that.

Issue #5 appears to have Sandman and will be drawn by Stockman, fyi, and then issue #6 has Annie being recruited by the X-men school for gifted youngsters...looks like the pace will enter a higher gear.

And first arc is done!

One thing that stood out to me was

The frightening near tumble into the lava. Other writers would have handled this and the resulting argument in a way that would make Pete look incompetent, but it makes sense. Pete's been through so much, lost so much that he gets a bit too over protective and that leads to a scary moment. What I liked about this is that rather than the story dwelling on it and rubbing it in, it showed that Pete and MJ have things to work out and can and will fight, but they'll put it to bed rather fast and warm right back up to loving each other.

I love this angle, having the two of them be heroes and a realistic married couple, not eternally happy stepford smilers or constant grouches, makes things interesting and offers quite a bit of room for story potential and growth.

My overall thoughts (I'll add more to this after work):

-Loved that we were thrown into the story and new status quo but the first outing wasn't yet another "NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME AGAIN!" scenario

-The family hero dynamic works surprisingly well for Pete. Even though I wanted Pete and MJ back, I was a bit worried about making all 3 super heroes, but it works well

-Annie is a kid and actually likeable, she's not presented as being too smart for her own good, bratty or unlikable. She's bright, eager to help and has a spark of exploration.

-MJ is back in full form. She's got the maternal drive, quips, flair, and warmth that I've missed for so long.

-Pete's the Pete I remember. Still all about responsibility, witty banter, back down to earth job-wise, but not broke as he was in the past.

-It's so good to see JJJ and the Bugle back!

-I liked the 3 perspectives of the 1st 3 issues, but while necessary I think it did slow things down a bit

-It's been ages since I read Mole man in anything, but he seemed loopier than usual. I got a laugh, but I'm wondering if something happened to make him slip off the edge. Also his mention of Reed Richards (and his desire to get vengeance upon him) plus the previews for later issues do infact confirm that the other heroes are thankfully alive, so yup, I can place all my hopes, love and dreams in this universe for now

-Stegman's art is a Godsend. OH man, look at how the tunnel bit with Annie was drawn, loved seeing the dinosaur skeleton in the middle of things. His composition is fantastic.

-I'm excited for the future of this book, I just want Marvel to promote it more so others can get a taste of this. I have high hopes for this book.

Also I hope the mini backup stories return, those were adorable.

That proves that this is not the same Renew Your Vows universe.
Thank god.
I hated that the last version of this made Pete a killer!

Finished up reading issue 4 and I am already eagerly awaiting the next issue. The family dynamic created by Conway is excellent...the characters all have their own distinctive voice and it's got such a warm human element. I also love how the book is actually fun to read. Aside from the awesome Spidey/Deadpool series FUN is something that has been sorely missing from Spider-Man in comics.

Stegman is hitting everything in stride on this one--his art is truly epic and I can't even imagine anyone else tackling this book as of now. His sense of depth and kinetic energy is on full display. So gorgeous to look at.

Mole man was entertaining enough and for a first arc villain and intro into this new series he was an acceptable choice. I found this version of the MM pretty hilarious. I hope Conway goes with some really cool versions of the classic villains in the upcoming issues--Sandman is one of my favs so I'm looking forward to seeing him next month. But I'd totally love some Mysterio and Ock and I gotta say just like everyone else in the book, Normie does indeed give me the creeps.

Absolutely loved the Spider-Girl reference at the end

Excellent post, Shockdingo. I agree with everything.

And to the emboldened...I really don't understand why Marvel isn't backing this story/series and supporting it with a greater amount of promotion. That is to say, ANY promotion, lol. But seriously, RYV is more Spider-Man than any of the other current titles save for maybe Spider-Man/Deadpool.

edit: p.s.-- that Ramos variant cover is even uglier in person.

Anyway, here's a review for Issue #4 BEWARE spoilers

http://spiderfan.org/comics/reviews/renew_your_vows_vol_2/004.html

I would deem this introductory arc a success, though I’m ready for the story to move on. In spite of the emphasis on an Incredibles-styled family of superheroes, this still reads more like classic Spider-Man than anything Marvel has done in their main universe for several years. 4/5 webs for this issue, great stuff.

I can't put into words how good it is to see Jim Lee X-men and going back to the gifted school route. Stegman kills it again! Beautiful!

Here's a synopsis for Issue #7 with cover art by Ryan Stegman.

Spidey and family vs Magneto...I still don't understand how Marvel isn't out there promoting this comic. It's more than likely going to be above the main title in terms of quality and def more in the fun dept.

The nostalgia is overwhelming. (In an absolutely GREAT way).

Absolutely. It's nice. It's like being in a warm, stuffy car and getting out and feeling a great breeze and seeing a bright blue sky, emerald grass and just feeling refreshed. I feel at home seeing these.

What I love is that the feeling you get from seeing some of these images is one of nostalgia but when you read the story, it feels natural. Conway has successfully avoided using nostalgia in his writing which is a testament to him, I think. Too often you'll see writers, especially writers from decades ago, end up with their stories or style feeling dated or not in this case, use nostalgia as a crutch.

While for many seeing Peter and MJ together again has a 'nostalgic' feel, the way everything is this book, at least thus far, has been presented it comes across with less of a nostalgic feel and one of, 'this is how things should have been.'

I can't wait to see the Parkers interacting with the 'old' X-Men. And on that note...

I love that picture so much. I agree with what you said about nostalgia, but ironically the pic of Scott and MJ evokes that in me; the shot makes me feel like I'm a kid again, looking at a beautifully animated feature of a quiet scene during a perfect summer with a crystal blue sky, and all is right in the world. Like I just posted on Mr Stegman's twitter, I can practically hear the crickets, wind and light rustling of the trees.

As you said, this feels like this is how things should have been.
