I just don't understand why they would fire Andrew Garfield if they were just going to go for a slightly younger carbon copy for the reboot? And personally, I don't like it. I hated Garfield's *******/cocky portrayal of Spider-Man, which is why I never bothered to go and see the second movie. I was hoping they would go for a sweeter version of Peter like we got with Tobey McGuire, and I thought Logan Lerman would have been perfect for that. I don't give a crap about what the comics are about, I'm just going by the Spider-Man that I was first exposed to and that was Tobeys. Honestly, if Dylan or someone similar is being chosen because they can play cocky and wisecracking, then I think I pretty much lost all of my anticipation for this. The only reason why I was excited, was because I was hoping for a different, more kinder version of Spidey. I don't much care for cocky attitudes. It's why Cap is my favorite of the MCU.

Well, frankly Tobey's portrayal was closer to the comics anyway. But I agree.

Ok, the latino review report says that the spidey casting won't start for months, but

But didn't Jeff Sneider say his friend knew who was cast as spidey and that he has been suited up and everything?

Might I add he said this around the same time the reddit guy resurfaced

i think this is the nutshell reason a lot of us are onboard with a Marvel Studio's version of S6, but not Sony. We trust Marvel's output, they've built up a substantial surplus of goodwill, critically and commercially, and they are more likely to not **** the bed with Spidey, given their track record across the different franchises. Sony let a lot of fans and the GA down with their last efforts; putting energy into a spinoff when you can't get the flagship character right in the last 3 movies is not good for morale. Hence, why I wasn't excited to see their take. I never bothered to watch TASM in the theaters,mp referring to wait until it was free at the library or cheap on Redbox to minimize my support for the movie. If I liked them, I'd have bought them to add to my superhero movie collection.

Alas, Sony squandered my interest in the character. Marvel, I think, can do better, at least with Feige steering the ship.

I was against Sony's S6 for that very reason--they butchered the stories and more importantly, the characters. And imo, spin-offs are supposed to be a natural evolution of a product that comes from something successful--there's an actual demand to see more. That was absolutely NOT the case with Sony. They were using the spin-offs in an attempt to try and save their dwindling franchise. And I definitely did NOT want to see a movie featuring the villains they had created--also known as the weakest elements of those films. Bad idea.

I am very much on board with Marvel for the very reasons you listed. They've earned the trust of their viewers with a consistent outputting of quality films. Sure, some have been at or under par but recently, they've been excellent. It reminds me of what Pixar has been doing as a studio. People will line up because that level of trust is there. BUT...I do NOT have faith in Marvel just jumping right into the S6 with no build up to either the main story itself or the 6 villains that make up the group. Bad idea. Marvel has a chance to right what was so wrong about Sony and their plan--let's not rush things, let's take the time to properly care for the stories and build up the Spider-verse in a way that is respectful, yet new and fresh. There's plenty of rogues in his gallery that can and should get their own movie or even introduce a couple in one movie and then slowly introduce others. There doesn't need to be this crazy rush to the finish line.

TSSM is an excellent example of how to make this all happen. I have faith in Feige and Co at the moment but they really need to try and take that approach rather than blowing their wad.

It's a waiting game now. Until someone's cast or announced we won't know who's right.

Trust me when I say that Dylan can portray the best aspects of BOTH Tobey and Andrew's Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

This, provided he was given a good script.

if they are skipping the origin story, does this mean spidey has been spidey for a while? and has just been fighting small time punk crime?

or are they just starting this as skipping the origin story but still having this be the beginning of peter parker's journey?

Someone should ask Jeff Sneider about it on twitter and see what he has to say.

This what I hope. I want Tobey's sincerity, but I want the witty quips of Spider-Man, while avoiding coming off as a d*ck while Peter, which Garfield came off as in the first ASM.

Likely both, ala TSSM. When that show started, Peter had been Spidey for nearly a year to that point. However, he had only ever been fighting thugs, and had not yet encountered super powered villains yet.

I find Dylan perfect for the role. And for the record, Andrew was best Spider we got, unfortunately in the worst Spider movie.

He says his friend won't tell him, he joked about getting him drunk to get it out of him

I know that's what he said I meant someone should write to him (not me cuz I don't have a twitter): "Hey, didn't you say Spider-Man was already cast?!" and see what he has to say to that.

What's your opposition to him dude? I was very against his casting a while back but after watching a lot of his stuff I changed my mind completely.

Much like you, I've watched his stuff and rather than change my mind, it made it ten times worse for me.

He does not give me any hope he'd be able to give a genuine performance as Peter Parker and a hilarious, playful and determined performance as Spider-Man.

I suspect he'd be fine as Spidey, but Peter? Eh, not buying it and that's what I want the most.

I want both sides done well and right, not one or the other like we've had already in the Spider-Man franchise.

He hasn't proven squat to me, but if he has you, by all means.

O'Brien as Spider-Man is 100% fine with me. If they decide to go a lot younger (15-16 with talent and a lot of potential) I can get behind that as well. I just want someone that can deliver the sarcastic quips.
