meh... the genral public doesnt even go to gaming forums... trust me WOS will get a lil bit of a boost when it comes out and that will be it, and it will do just fine. theres only been 4 spider-man games that of come out since spider-man 2... and only 1 would be considered in the same class.. and that 1 was the only failure... Ultimate spider-man appealed more to kids then spidey 2 and was still a success, battle for new york was a handheld so doenst really count, and frien or foe did pretty well for a game geared 75-85% towards kids. The only real failure in terms of quality (not sales) was spider-man 3... it was a disappointment. So we've technically only had 1 major free roaming spidey game on console (not counting ultimate), that has been released since spidey to.. so don't act like its been 10 years or something since spidey 2 came out... and just because the marketing might not be great for WOS doesn't mean the game will suck at all.
You clearly haven't hung around the WOS thread here OR the one on SeizeControl.com, the marketing is only one problem of many. As I said, we have little to no information. You're not getting the point, the game is not going to sell as well as it could because of many factors:
1. Bad marketing.
2. The PS2 and PSP versions are nothing more than sidescrolling.
3. Many people are burned on SM3 and FOF, why should they trust Activision with another game?
4. Spider-Man has still only had one good game out of the ones you listed. FOF only appealed because it was for kids. We were hoping it was a 616 game, not a piece of movie garbage.
5. There's a strong possiblitiy that there won't be any downloadable content.
6. There are many features that people enjoyed in previous games removed from this one. Such as no extra costumes, no extra playable characters, no extra missions (photograph missions for example).
The fact that SM3 did so horribly makes people not trust WOS and rightfully so. When the administrators of their own forums admit that the marketing is crappy, then you KNOW something is wrong.
Besides, you can't say a game was awesome on sales alone. Sales just mean many people bought it, but it doesn't mean many people LIKED it.
However, this thread isn't for WOS and I'm not going to argue with you over something that's pretty obvious.
Point is that the marketing is bad for WOS and don't be surprised if it's bad for M:UA II. If you want to debate and argue on this more, go to the WOS forums here, you'll understand then.
