There would be news reports if Wolverine died. And maybe not. Maybe it's because he isn't an "American icon". He doesn't have America in his name. But Superman is the American superhero. He just is. That's what people think of. Not Cap. He's #2. However, when people think of "badass superheroes," their mind goes to Wolvie.
Also, about your old persons perspective. All those old people know Wolverine when they take their kids to the movies, sit them in front of the tv, or buy them toys. Or buy them delicious Marvel Super-Heroes rocket pops. By Popsicle
Wolverine is on loads more candy and stuff. There are X-Men fruit snacks out right now.
And Cap wasn't on a pop smash tv show. It's not like he had a Batman or Incredible Hulk level of popularity.
Hey, I wish Cap was more recognized than Wolvie. But it ain't so.
I would've thought that real world recognition would have been:
Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine.
But now that I think about it, maybe Captain America would take Wolverine's place. If you had a someone who had never read or watched a single Marvel based form of entertainment and handed them a picture of Wolverine and Captain America, chances are they would be able to guess Cap just from his costume. Along with his name being used more so than Wolverine.
Superman's an icon, Cap is a backup. Wolverine is more known. Ok, admit that in 10 years Wolverine will definitely 100% be more recognizable. Do it. 10 years of births, another X-flick, 2 more cartoons, 10 years of old people dying off. Wolverine, RAARRGHH![]()
Oh, I thought you meant Wolverine would be more recognizable than Spider-Man in 10 years.
I will give you the benefit of the doubt because Cap's shield is seen in the Colbert Report 5 days a week. However, know that I am still way righter than you. Ha. Righter.
In the 90's, Storm was considered Marvel's equivalent. These days, Marvel's really putting the spotlight on Ms. Marvel.
i guess i was speaking "out of universe status" but what about the "original" big three that the article referred to.
the one that includes Namor?
Along with Captain America and the Sub-Mariner, the Torchs off-and-on foe, he was one of Timely Comics' three signature characters.
Power is not a factor in being the "Big Three". It's totally based on popularity and their iconism for their respective franchising.Well DC's big three is Superman, Batman, and WOnder WOman.
I guess Marvel used to have the same thing and Apparenty Namor is teh only one left. See, http://www.craveonline.com/comics/articles/04648082/the_submariner_1.html
My question is, who are the other two?
The second part of my question would be who is Marvel's current Big Three?
In terms of sheer power (mental or physical), I would say:
1) Sentry
2) Hulk
3) Xavier
In terms of popularity and as a "foundation" for the universe, I would say:
1) Wolverine
2) Spider-Man
3) Captain America
No they won't. And the people not young enough for the cartoon have the movie. And the people older than that had the comic when it was hot s**t
What has Cap had. nothing
the all-american superhero is Superman.
Well DC's big three is Superman, Batman, and WOnder WOman.
Bats = Bugs
We knew what he meant, but because nobody else uses the nickname we decided to eff with him.
