Marvel's Runaways coming to Hulu

Interesting news. I guess I finally have to read Runaways

I took a minute for me to find this thread. It's in the wrong subforum

I liked Virginia Gardner in Project Almanac, don't know the others.

I'm pretty sure they were talking about the "Why don't they wear the iconic costume from episode 1?" complaint, which is kind of passe at this point.

Oh I know... It just gets tiring.

The way it's executed in the shows is becoming equally tiresome.

And utterly irrelevant in a thread about the Runaways since none of them wear costumes to begin with.

Is this her?

At least we have an idea what she'll look like as Karolina.

Well it's not like she needs to earn the right to wear them.

I don't care how impractical they are for fighting. I hope she wears them every episode and maybe even has a large collection of them, like a flip flop closet.

That would be really cool and would be really relatable to flip flop collectors.

I'm more interested in seeing Nico in all of her goth-glory. Embrace it Marvel, she looks cool.

Virginia seems to have actually modelled a lot of pictures for flip flops, maybe for a catalogue or something, so she should have no problem sporting Karolina's signature look.

Although she seems to be a bit pigeon toed as she stands with her feet turned inwards a lot in many pictures. Unless she was doing that on purpose.

I'm interested to see how they'll do the flying sequences.

And is she going to crush on Nico?

I'm wondering if they'll touch on Karolina being a lesbian on the show at all? It'd seem like a waste not to imo.

If they don't, it would be changing quite a bit of her character.

People might say they don't care about the costumes or outfits as long as the characterisation is correct, but what if that is not even correct? Then as long as what quality is there will you be fine with that version of the character?

Why wouldn't they? This is her character description:

Underneath her veneer of privilege and perfection, Karolina is experiencing a newfound eagerness to explore her identity and pursue her own desires.

That leans heavily towards her being gay.

...Do you have a foot fetish or something? I have no idea why you're paying so much attention to the actress' feet and whether or not she's worn flip flops in her past roles. That's kinda weird.

I would like to remind people that 1. certain things discussed here could be seen as spoilers by some, and 2.
Karolina being a lesbian was only revealed in Vol. 2 of the comic, so while they might (strongly) hint at it, they might not reveal it until the end of the season or even at some point in the second season.

I don't really think that's a spoiler. Like I just said it's hinted at right there in the initial cast announcement.

Her being a lesbian is one of the known things about her, even if she's not out at the beginning of the series. It's like putting in spoilers the fact that Scott Summers loves Jean Grey, even if he doesn't yet at first until he meets her.

If she hadn't been lesbian in this version, that could be a spoiler perhaps.

Well, I'd say
Alex being the traitor, Gert and Chase ending up together, Gert dying, etc.
are all equally well known things about the characters. Thing is, many people don't know a thing about them, so basically every plotpoint from the comics is a spoiler, unlike with something as major as X-Men. You're supposed to think at the beginning that
Chase and Karolina will probably end up together as the good looking white kids, Alex can't be the traitor since he's the smart leader, Nico doesn't get along with or care for others, Molly needs to be protected from everything, etc.
even though you'll quickly find that it's different from one look at a wiki page, I'd say it's best to experience it firsthand either when reading the comic or watching the show.

I mean, sure it's 2017, but if you can spare someone who hasn't seen it from Darth Vader's identity or Dumbledore's killer, why wouldn't you?

Yes, I would consider what happens with Alex and Gert, etc. to be spoilers. But Karolina being gay is just a basic character trait and is introduced without much fanfare. It isn't some big plot spoiler or anything even in the same ballpark.

The character's sexual orientation wasn't a big twist though. Certainly not on the level of those plot twists you just mentioned. And while it didn't happen until volume 2 in the comics, who is to say that counts here?

It makes you wonder how close are they going to stick to the story and where are they going to switch things up a bit. Especially with that reveal in one of the last issues from the first series...

They may have different plot twists just like in GOTG2 they have made someone else Peter Quill's father so that it isn't as predictable as the comics.

I hope this is connected to the MCU. But who are these supervillains who haven't been heard of in the rest of the MCU? It feels like it could be fairly self contained and its own thing.

They could do with fighting a villain on one of their first outings as a team who has been featured somewhere else before, even in something like AoS.

Words cannot describe how awful and barf-inducing that would be. Especially if that is the justification for it.

The Pride not being mentioned in other MCU productions isn't really a big deal. How much stuff between the different shows is acknowledge any way?

Given that the Pride are deeply secret, why *would* they be mentioned? The whole point is that nobody even knew they existed before the Runaways beat them.
