POTA ('68)

Taylor:
"You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! God damn you all to hell!

That film was made in the period when Cold War between USA and USSR was still running. Evidentially, in the future (from the p.o.v. of the characters in the 1960s) human race ended up in a hot war involving nuclear weapons. Once you go down the path of triggering nuclear war --it'll become a real Mutual assured destruction (M.A.D.) in which both sides ended up in a complete annihilation.

Since early 1990, Cold War fizzled out with the collapse of USSR and their Eastern satellites states. This negated the effectiveness of apocalyptic storyline involving nuclear war. I like how they went with different apocalypse scenario for the new series in form of biological warfare, i.e., accidental release of viruses that targeted both human and apes with different outcomes for both species.

I always smoked the purp with these films, forget logic etc.

Going back to the first one tho, gun-less apes aint winning. We would KILL all apes.

But there are apes next to this school!

Old white military guy: On my command!

An old white man who shaves his hair like a skin head rather than buzz cut. I'm still wondering if that was a coincidence or an accident that works in the favor of the themes. Because isn't buzz cut the military norm over going all the way bald still?

This.

I made a graphic for how my head wraps around the timeline of these films:

Makes me happy how delightfully absurd it is :D

It just looks so good. The last one is a favorite of mine, and I enjoyed the first as well. But I can't help but cheer for the humans.

This reboot just seems to be getting better and better.

woooow that trailer came out of nowhere and these guys already had my money. hyped.

This actually might be the best franchise going around right now.

I mean, what other franchise in the last 5 years has had the same high level of production quality and emotional story telling as this?

*kisses Andy Serkis on the forehead*

These award giving bastah don't deserve you! You flew to close to the sun.

it might be one of the few perfect trilogies if this trailer is any indication

As a franchise, I'd take Cap over this. That has a good movie, and two great ones. This one has a good movie, and a great one so far. Then you have How to Train Your Dragon and even the Conjuring series.

i dont really count cap since you cant really watch all 3 caps without watching avengers and civil war was avengers 2.5

I'd count the recent MI films, if the next one is good.
Yeah, we just had the two best so far, both pretty excellent. But yeah pretty astounding that this series got to this high of a regard considering the expectations coming out of the gate. I enjoyed the first film, but I never expected this.

I'd agree with that somewhat. You can maybe watch Winter Soldier as a stand alone, but you can't watch CW without having watched the Avengers movies.

You can totally watch them all without watching the Avengers. They lay out the circumstances in the films without a lot of exposition. To the point, there is a through line of Cap and his relationship with Bucky.

The two recent POTA reboots (War for the POTA still to be seen) are the best franchise reboot of all time. At least in my opinion.

The closest for me at the moment is Nolan's Batman films.

Other good reboots/semi-reboots were just single film or the follow-ups did not live up to the reputation like Cronenberg's The Fly, Carpenter's The Thing.

I really like the Craig Bond films. But yeah, this is maybe my favorite non-CBM franchise.

I like to think of it like Battlestar Galactica. It revived, and elevated, the source material.
