Here's a VERY rough sketch for my new X-men piece. I've really only stared to work on Nightcrawler a bit, but I was wanted to see what people thought of the layout.

Upper-left is Cyclopes blasting Angel, whose back is to us.

In the Mid-ground Rogue is flying away from Colossus.

In the foreground, Nightcrawler is trying to bamf, while storm is shocking him.

I generally don't post stuff this rough, but since I'm trying to stretch a bit on this one and go for more depth in the scene, I thought I'd ask for comments on the layout.

Comments appreciated, as always.

With all respect Matt it seems it should be reversed.

The figure of cyclops doesnt draw me in enough whilst the center figures of Rouge and collosus are very strong and pull to the right.

Not sure if you get my meaning

I think i'd switch around storm/nightcrawler and colossus/rogue in the picture... have colossus and rogue frame the image... showing enough of them to see who they are, and what is going on.

I will take them into consideration, but for the moment I had to pause the x-men piece.

To keep busy while I look for java development work, I am messing around with app development for the Android mobile OS.

I decided to work on a Sudoku game, because the coding should be fairly simple which is important since this will be my first Android app.

It's not bad I think you need to do some more overlapping and create a way back into the piece. You basically have three separate elements that have been brought into a single piece and I find they don't quite seem together. You also have two very strong angles

You might want to try blocking out your basic composition. Some artists find this helpful in the beginning and it works for some people but not all. It's up to you Here's your composition if it's just blocked in with shapes.

I would try and moving up the Nightcrawler/Storm and shift them a little so she isn't cropped in an awkward manner. I would also adjust Rogue and Colossus. It took me a minute to realize they were grabbing each other. (Of course this is just a rough) If you switch arms that Rogue is Holding Colossus with you can do some interesting things with her other arm.

Here's the one I sort of tweaked a little in the basic black

Overall it's not a bad compostion and at the rough stage it's hard to say how it would end up. Details with Nightcrawler's tail, and angels wings how you show the faces can all move the eye around to where ever you want.

Just throwing in my 2cents and hope it helps.
