Just wanted to give an idea of the layout I'm thinking of for the final piece.

The concept... Santa's holding a sign that says 'Naughty!' while riding on the shoulder of his gigantic toy monster, and a little boy runs away...

The front of the card will say 'No worries...' and the inside will say '... You were nice this year.'

Thoughts?

Incredible work. I can't comprehend putting this much time into a piece. awesome.
In terms of thoughts, I think the boy needs to be a little more off center. maybe up a bit and to the right. blocking more of the creatures arm. Other than that, great!

I've been over and over this exact issue. I'll post an update soon with a tweak. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Holy Moly!

Worked a TON on this piece this weekend, and I have to say, the toy ideas are just not coming at this point.

In any event, I'm up to 173 toys.

A few more will finish out the last finger... suggestions would be appreciated....

Cooties and Talkboy are already sketched,just not added yet.

I'd really like to hear thoughts on the layout, if you have any.

That's frakking awesome. Looks of good color and detail, nice composition, and hey, the Iron Giant's in there too. Plus Santa's riding this golem to get this kid, which will be an extra nice little bit.

One thing I will say is that the arm and hand look really 3D, while the shading head looks a little flat. I don't know, maybe it's my monitor, it doesn't always register contrast like it should.

my only comment would be that the "known" toys in the head and left arm (his left), all are rightside up, which isn't really logical. while the other arm, you had them all turned around, and more like a heaping mass. The newer parts look like you were trying to show off the toys more so than have them coming together to make a larger piece. If that makes sense?

I've been working insane hours at work for a month so I had to take a break on my card.

My huge project ended Friday, so I spent some time working this weekend.

I got a clean flat color version of Santa done, and did a 2nd pass sketch of the kid, this time in winter clothes.

With that heavy winter coat add, I covered up some of the toys I did for the right arm, so I'll shift those so they don't get lost.

I'd love to hear thoughts.

Merry Christmas, SHH!

For my 2011 Christmas Card, I decided to go with a design involving Santa Claus sicking his toy monster on a naughty kid.

This piece was by far this most ambitious piece I've ever done. I looked back and saw that I posted my first draft of this piece in my DeviantArt scrapbook on June 29th, and I've just completed it finally on November 12th... Dang.

I am really proud of this piece, and I'd love to hear your thoughts.

On the subject of the toys, after hours and HOURS of googling, wracking my brain, and soliciting ideas from friends and family I've incorporated 200 toys to make up Stanta's toy monster (listed below). Enjoy!

For the record, I did a a few trials with the 3D for my card... the version currently viewable is the final.

The layers are now further apart now and I've cleaned up the ghosts as much as my current abilities allow...

If anyone has red/cyan glasses, let me know what you think!

I know this is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY late, but I've got the glasses. The 3d effect turned out well.

One thing I'd suggest - if you ever do another 3d piece - is to color correct it in photoshop. Put the glasses on while you do this, and it'll help remove some of the heavy red/blue tones that the glasses cause. The 3d effect still works, but it helps the clarity of the image. Works well for my 3d images.

I KIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLED myself on it for so long, but it's finally done and looks great printed out, so I'm really happy with it. Glad you liked it.
