Mattchew's Halloween Costume Thread (Trust... It's an f-ing work of art)

Agreed... and early birthday. Nice avatar btw. Can't wait to see it in 3D!

yeea i wana see it also but its in select theators and i have no idea ware its playin

you know, i think i had that "action figure" when I was little. I don't think I had the He-Man, but I had the cat. i recognized it by the color scheme.

So, even a person whose obsesses over Halloween gets sick of this stuff after a while. The nice thing about my Costume this year is when I was so sick of green fur I wanted to throw three weeks worth of BattleCat off a cliff, I could switch to working on He-man stuff for a bit.

It's annoying too @ this point, but its different and different is good. Here's some pics of He-Man clothes.

DSC00327.jpg

Here's a pic of some boots I got @ Salvation Amry for $1.50 with a cardboard extention, a new paintjob, and gold trim, along with some bangles for my wrists and a belt to go around my waist. He-Man fans might note that there is no gold trim on his boots, rather he has red fuz @ the top. I got red fuzz with the intention of adding it to cover the entire cardboard part, but... umm... they looked not to much like He-Man boots as much as something one of the Spice Girls might wear. Some things don't translate... unless you're a drag queen. In this case, I'm not. Hence, no fuzzy boots.

Here's a pic that represents LOADS OF WORK. Its the first step in making the chest armor. I took thin wood and cut into equal pieces with a cirular saw. Then I made a cloth shape that fit my frame and glued coat hangers into it so it was very solid. Then for HOURS I hot glued each little piece on having to try it on a billion times to make sure I could still wear it (wood doesn't give against bare skin, as it turns out). I had to cut that bog middle shape 3 times before it didn't like a three year old cut it.

DSC00324.jpg

Here's the armor with a paint job. I used grey, silver, and black spray paint to make it look more metalic and a bit weathered.

The armor in the back.

Here's a digital pic of the He-Man crest that goes on his chest.

Here's the final pic of the armor, with the crest (printed on photo paper), glued on, and with a light spray of black spray paint to make is look a bit dirty to tie it into the armor a bit more.

Stuff to complete before He-Man is complete:
***Fuzzy red underwear.
***Fake He-man legs.
***Last but not least, a kick-a$s power sword OF COURSE!!!!

Dude your stuff rules.

Just a question:

What does your being gay have to do with you being a kick *** costumer?

Ha... Just commenting on the fact that some less enlightened people might be suprised to learn that a gay guy likes movie where a guy who has been *****ed by toxic waste get exploded by a fast-moving car or a crazy jerk yells "game over man! GAME OVER!"

Taste has nothing to do with sexual disposition.

Welcome to the hype

By the way we have a fan art section where you could probably enter the Ripley

Yeah... that was kinda the point I was trying to make. If it didnt read that way, appologies. I obviously have no reason to perpetuate ideas like that.

Btw, I generally enter the monthly fanart contest. The first time you posted in the thread I actually recognised your user name because I love your stuff. Cool to run into in another thread. Thanks for all the input. :yay:

Thanks.

I wasn't offended I just feel you shouldn't have to justify yourself.

Thanks... As for 'Nightmare', I know its playing in Columbus OH so I'm thankful for that. I just saw a headline in the last week that it was gonna be in 200 theatres so hopefully a closer theatre will be announced.

do you have muscles eh?....EH?!?!?!

Umm... No. That was part of the joke of oicking this costume, I suppose. I could not be skinnier with fewer muscles... but I WILL have the power of Greyskull. Deal with it.

A quick update of stuff I got done yesterday...

DSC00336.jpg

Here's a pic of some minor details I've added to the armor. I used those annoying 'decorative' stones that often are found in fish bowls and spray painted them and added them, as well as red stripes to match the armor on the He-Man action figure.

DSC00337.jpg

Here's a pic of some yellow stripes I've added. When I finished last night the whole body, except the front arms, chest, and neck were done as far as stripes go. The main body doesn't have tons becasue it will be covered by the saddle strap.

DSC00332.jpg

Here's a pic of the tail. I used REALLY thick electical cable and wrapped it in batting and then the green fur. This way the tail is soild, and can be bent into shapes.

DSC00339.jpg

Here's a pic that made me sweat. I has to cut a hole in the nice finished a$s of the tiger to place the tail... Kinda a leap of faith that I'd figure a way to attach it.

DSC00342.jpg

Here's the back third of the Battlecat, the tail fully attached and the hole covered.

DSC00345.jpg

Here's a fron angle of BattleCat, withthe tail attached. Some more green has been added to the front arms, but they're obviously not done.

Give me your thoughts, if you have a chance! Thanks.

That is awesome. I also love the ripley in the loader.

This is amazing. As a fellow Halloween fanatic (whose obsession was more in design of Haunted Houses) you have my utmost respect. And your paper mache skills are most impressive.

Thanks man... Its always nice to get the thumbs up from a fellow lover of Halloween. I worked a haunted house... it was a blast.

BTW, the paper mache nod is a funny cause few people would ever point that out. It makes me know you're hardcore.

These pics mark the end of the green fur and yellow fur (except for the front and back paws).

DSC00352.jpg

Complete green and yellow stripes on the body.

DSC00347.jpg

Another angle.

BattleCat stuff left to finish:
***Eyes need to be printed out and attached.
***Front and back paws need to be built, paper mached, painted, covered in fur, and attached.
***The saddle needs to be built, paper mached, painted, and attached.

Let me know what you think about how the stripes look... to many... not enough?

I would say...just a few more stripes. They seem a little sparse. Looks really cool, though.
