Matthew Vaughn off Thor

From the Hollywood Reporter:

Some people in other threads did not seem aware of this. This also seems to go along with chatter that Vaughn was no longer with the project while it was being put on hold because of the strike and waiting to see the BO performance for Iron Man and Hulk.

But this is what things like work strikes cause. Also what caused Thor from getting a 2009 release.

Sort of unfortunate for Vaughn. He doesn't seem to have any luck with staying on big budget Marvel projects at all. X-men 3 and now Thor.

I don't think he was a bad choice to do the movie at all.

But if movies like Iron Man and Thor are to co-exist, the movies like Iron Man have to let go of the idea of only using the more "realistic" tech based villains. That means using guys like the Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom. Who the hell does not want to see Fin Fang Foom onscreen?

Not me if he is a giant talking dragon wearing shorts... Very lame :hehe: otherwise it be ok.

Anyways Vaugh sort of seemed negative about the project.

Well the first script has a huge amount of Asgardain related creatures, beasts, and magic. I could see why Marvel sent the script back to have it cut by half.
The first movie is basically about Thor and Mjolnir, and thier contections.
I could see Del torro doing Thor but he wouldn't be free to do Thor, IMO Rami has the Experiance with Thor alto it was a different Thor he did a great job with little money.
Fin Fang Foom wouldn't be seen until Thor 2 more than likely IF he even shows up in ANY Thor film.

This kind of sucks. Didn't he say he already had an actor picked? Who now?

Vaughn had basically many from Stardust already to go. Composer Ilan Eshkeri, Director of Photography Ben Davis, it wasn't like Vaughn didn't have a crew lined up. Just the Actors seemed to be chosen.

I get the feeling that Marvel like hiring indie directors for their movies so how about Arie Posin (Chumscrubber)?

I would have loved Vaughn to have done Thor, i wont mind as long as they dont completely change the original idea, its sounds like a good film

I missed that completely. Well, I'm hoping Rami will be chosen, for the simple reason of his Hercules Lenedary Journey episodes of Asgard.
I thought they were fantastic due to such a low budget, tho using wrestlers is out for the major roles.

I actually don't like to hear that the same director is chosen to direct different superhero movies (unless they are sequels). Like when MSJ screwed up Daredevil and then was given the keys to screw up Ghost Rider as well. I'd prefer if wach superhero movie had it's own take and feel rather than rehash the problems and/or style from another movie. I wish Singer had stuck with X-Men rather than defect to Superman as well. The only exception I'd make is to have Favreau direct the Avengers... it's a quasi-sequel and he's in touch with the super-hero community so I can look the other way. ;)

Not so much indie as rather not having much name recognition. you know how a lot of times studios want to snatch up unkown actors and establish them first before they get too big? Well it's the same with Marvel and its directors. Actually EON just did the same thing with Quantum of Solace: They snatched up Marc Forster who is just a GREAT director and did Finding Neverland, Monster's Ball, The Kite Runner, and Stranger than Fiction, but even though he's done all these awesome movies he really doesn't have much name recognition. Come to think of it, if QoS come out as awesome as I'm hoping, I'd like to see him tackle a Marvel film.

Good idea. Marc Forster would definitely make a good Marvel film. But even so, I don't think they deliberately hire unknowns. If someone has the vision, I'm sure they are all willing.

Son of a *****. Vaughn really left? He was one of the reasons why I was really excited about this movie :(

It's official. Matthew Vaughn is definitely not returning to Thor.

He signed on to write and direct a comic book from Mark Millar. It was official before, but now it's... permanent.

Marc Foster would be good, but... coincidentally, I've read an article yesterday where he stated that he's not interested in directing another Bond movie, nor another action/adventure movie. He said that he chose to direct Bond because, as Orson Welles once said, "every director should do at least one commercial film in his lifetime."

So, LR says that Brad Pitt (WTF?) is considered for Thor... If Vaughn wanted or had an unknown in mind, this could be a reason not to renew his deal...

Raimi isn't a bad choice, actually. He has been flirting with doin ga fantasy film since Spider-Man 3 (The Hobbit, Clash of the Titans) and also was interested in doing a Thor adaptation long before Spider-Man was a glint in his eyes. I usually agree with not always throwin gout the same names but in this case, I think it could work.

...I just want someone to treat it as an epic, 2 hours+, none of this 90-minute "here's his 70-minute origin, big fight in last 15 minutes" stuff...

all of the actors need to be committed to taking this seriously..

they should get John Rhys Davies to play Odin..

the script should not be campy at all...

OH BELIEVE ME, it's very EPIC!

F-that... I don't want to see Thor doing the hussle down the street and having a hole scene dedicated to a rash or a musical. :cmad:

Just an idea Spidey, Nobody's been chosen yet, and you might chnge you mind if you had Seen the Asgardian related Hercules Legndary Journeys episodes. They were rather good.

I had no idea about this. I'm disappointed, I was anxious to see where Vaughan would take Thor, especially after the delightful Stardust.

I hope they resign him to do this.

That's a bummer. I really hope they find someone good (i.e. NOT Sam Raimi) because the script sounds really good.

Wait was this before or after Marvels announcement of release dates? Because marvels announcement still had Vaughn attached

I believe it was after the announcements.... which is wierd :-\
