Max Payne walks into a diner and the diner gives him two beers and welcomes him back. He then takes the two beers and walks over to a booth with Mona Sax sitting there. He gives her the beer, drinks and smiles at her. She then slides over a newspaper that is glorifying Nicole Hornehinting that Max Payne and Mona Sax will go after her.

God dammit I knew I should've stayed after the credits...

No you shouldnt have. That scene just pissed me off more, because the game was able to handily take care of that loose end the first f**king time. Most of the scenes this movie took from the game were ruined. Roscoe Street Station was made into a boring 2 minute thing where he doesn't even kill anyone, the helipad scene was anti-climatic as hell, and how the f**k did Mona know where he was during the Aesier shoot out??? And why did they totally change what Valkyre does? And why is Lupino hispanic instead of Russian, and not a mobster? Argh, useless changes, almost to the point of the Resident Evil movies.

I thought I was the only one who thought it was dumb that Mona magically shows up at the end there. And she's like "Max you have to finish this!"

...how the hell does she even know what's going on or why he's even there?

I have a feeling something was cut out cause in one of trailers you see her in a different outfit in what looks like the warehouse Max fought Lupino in.

Oh I'm sure things were cut. I have some hope for the directors cut, if we ever see it, but I'm not going to throw myself behind it like I did the theatrical version, cause I don't want to be burned twice by the same movie. Ugh, I wanted to like this so much.

I liked it, flick was fun and solid. My only two issues were 1) that it was never clear what Mona did for a living, despite her line "You know what I do for a living." Um, no I don't. And the other issue was just that Max takes a LOT of gunshots during the ending and keeps on tickin'.

Scene after the credits was a great coda, too, that answered a lot for me. I'm guessing they had Max go after a man instead of a woman in this movie because they didn't want the film to end with some stud blowing away a lady - they were probably afraid of coming off mysoginistically, people are always so P.C.-sensitive these days.

I was fairly satisfied with the translation by and large, but I would've liked more of the hilariously overwrought narration that made the game so memorable. I wanted Marky Mark narrating self-importantly throughout the whole movie. That crap made me laugh out loud in the game, but I guess maybe they wanted me to take the movie a little more seriously. Other than the lack of narration, they really nailed the look and feel... except for the whole "lack of blood" issue of course...

That's funny about the gunshots. I liked it because whenever I played the game I jus couldn't stop from getting shot like crazy, and then mark had the payne limp going on.

I'm going to watch this later, doesn't seem like too many people are seeing it though

I think there is a month between the US and UK release of the movie (not to mention other places), which might account for the lack of input from some people.

This film truly was great and exciting, IMO. I have only 2 very small gripes, but thats it.

People are getting irked off, because the movie did'nt follow the game to a tee? Shocking aint it that they don't follow the game/comic to the letter, ppl should know by now that it just don't work that way.
The movie is just based off the game,so u gotta let the director/producers put their own touch to it.
I'll admit I only played the first game, and that was years ago, so I don't remember much of the plot. So, maybe I'm lucky or something, lol. I like these type of movies, and coming from a movie POV it was very slow for the first half of the movie. I wished they would of made him more angry/disturbed as they tried to portray him. If they would of had a few more action sequences at the beginning of the movie it would of been a decent movie..

It is much harder to make a movie based on a game than on a comic book or tv series. With the former you have maybe one or two franchise parts to compel a 90 + minute story out of, and there is barely any canon, except fan fiction. The latter there many books and entries focusing on character, backstory, etc. Even with graphic novels, those are just storyboards for Hollywood to use for the most part. It's hard to do...hell, even though Midway created a massive ****ing universe for Mortal Kombat we only got mediocre movies and tv shows.

Aren't pepole able to write characters and story anymore? What are screenwriters for?

Sometimes being creative is a double edged sword...that **** can come off real good or real bad.

I saw the movie friday. I thought it was dull and bad. For the longest time there were no action scenes (until the first shoot-out with the Chris O Donnel character)....the girl in the movie (from That 70s Show) was horribly miscast (the movie doesnt even show you if she lives or not... the last we see of her she gets into an elevator... then an explosion occurs)...overall, the movie was just bad...it reminded me of the Punisher, but the Thomas Jane flicked was better.

So who does Olga play?
She plays Natasha Sax, Mona's (Mila Kunis) sister. Unfortunatly, she doesnt have a huge part.

Now on to what I think. For the most part, its was an alright movie. Nothing new, it was basically like all the other typical action movies. I was a little better than I expected though. Mila Kunis suprised me in it. I was a bit skeptical about her in a serious role, but she turned out to be one of the best parts of the movie. Not to mention she looked awesome.(But WTF happened to Mona after?) Mark was good too. And I though Ludacris woulda been alot worse. Though he looked ridiculous with the bowler hat and trenchcoat. And what was with Nelly Furtado? I love her, but she was unessicary. And her acting was SOOOOO much better on that one episode of CSI she was in than this movie.(even though she was only in 1 scene). What I really hated was the lack of blood and the lack of seeing people get brutally killed(damn PG 13 rating!). It shoulda definetly been rated R so it coulda had more blood.

Overall, Id give it a 6 or a 7.

Movie was a piece of **** waste of time.

It wasn't even a good cliff notes version of the game. Lame, phoned in performances. Lots of disjointed stories and characters.

The problem was, this never really felt like a real movie. It felt like there were just patches of movie-like things in it, but very glued barely held together. It was very b-movie esque. And this is why video game movies generally suck. I expect the new Chun Li movie to be the same way.

People teed off about it not being like the game. I mean the games aren't spectacular games, but they are fun.

The movie had NONE of what was entertaining and cool about the games. The film noir voice over? Gone. The hard boiled graphic novel influences? Gone. Creepy, twisted, disturbing, and horrific elements? Gone and replaced with some crappy CG of winged valkyries.

One of the most hilarious things about the movie to me. Early in the movie when offered a cigarette, Markie Mark says he doesn't smoke! LOL! Strike 1. In the game, Max is a habitual smoker. He's trying to quit after his baby is born. Early in the game before the terrible thing happens, he says "it's his last one".

This is so Hollywood/20th Century Fox to me. Can't have the hero smoking in a PG-13 movie. But you can have him killing bad guys, butchering them with guns. Practically torturing perps. Also voluntarily ingesting a performance enhancing, hallucenogenic drug. But you can't have him light up a ****ing cig, HILARIOUS!

The other problem was, I was never once disturbed or cared about what happened to Max. It didn't make you feel the tragedy or anguish of his past. The flashbacks of the tragedy feel very hollow and dull. In the game they are very creepy, arresting, and disturbing when you go to his home and these almost zombie like schmucks are there and I think you even see something bad happened to the baby's cradle. No mention of the baby's fate is really even touched upon. It's like the baby disappeared without a trace.

John Moore, IMHO, with this film has solidified his career as a mainstream studio hack director as well as a yes man. Especially with his, "You can't show R-rated trailers in front of PG-13 movie" ********. Also, "My name is John Moore, not John Less." We have another freaking Brett Ratner here.

Also in the game, the wife was an actual character. One of the big points was that Michelle was trying to TELL Max something, that he just didn't get or pay attention to and that was freaking important.

So much of this movie was spent on the lame mystery and conspiracy that's all totally telegraphed. When the shootouts and fights happened they were just really quick and dull.

In the game Max is forcibly injected with the drug because the bad guys were trying to overdose him and kill him. Max goes on a terrible hallucination where he's confronted with some creepy f'ed demons of his past instead of all the stupid winged valkyrie BS that reinvigorates him to go after BB.

Climax was so disappointing. The game ties up all the loose ends, but they still did a sequel. Are you kidding me, try and set up a sequel where they go after the woman? Lame movie.

John Moore is one of the worst directors working today. No wonder Fox hires people like John Moore and James Wong to do their big tentpoles. They don't want good, creative talented directors anymore.

Vile One, I swear you seen it exactly the way i see it. It's funny because the first scene in Max Payne the game shows Max with a cigarette, this movie seems like a mashup of part 1 and 2, the essential elements in the game were barely present in the movie, please dont tell me the scene where Max shot dude wit tha shot gun falling backwards was supposed to be the "shoot dodge" the winged valkyrie thing was ridiculous by far.

The games had such a great story that they could have lifted it word for word and just filmed it, adding extra elements is ******ed if not handled properly. This is a normal thing in most video game movie adaptations, this movie may be satisfying to those who really havent played the game, but for those who played through 1 and 2 and remember the story line and everything that made the game so great, get ready to be disappointed.

Whats really funny is that this time last year, Fox dug in Agent 47 shyt with Hitman, my god, when will the hurting stop
