Max: The Artist Formerly Known as HBO Max

Damn I just saw In The Heights is at 99% on RT after 81 reviews. Was not expecting that. I mean, I know the stage show was acclaimed but that rarely translates to an acclaimed movie, and Jon M. Chu is quite hit-or-miss. I wasn't planning on that one being a theater outing, but I may have to revise that.

Pardon me while I will this into existence:

That's quite an impressive force of will that you have there!

Same, I don't know if I liked a single Jon M. Chu film with Crazy Rich Asians being his strongest. We'll see.

As someone who loves Hamilton and Moana, I haven’t heard a song from In the Heights that really stuck with me. I feel I have to watch this and give it a chance.

Anyone else find the rewind/fast forward really buggy? I wish they had a “rewind 10 seconds” ability. Sometimes I miss the audio but when I hit rewind it goes back like a full minute automatically.

Lately, if I rewind after fast-forwarding, it won't stop rewinding. I have to quickly exit the movie/show and resume. It's a recent development so it might be a new bug.

Oh good so it’s not just me. How do you get yours subscription? Roku or firestick?

On a sorta-related topic, WB's YouTube channel is pretty dang awesome. They have a lot of videos up right now for the new Conjuring movie, Harry Potter, DC superheroes & villains (including Kevin Conroy's Batman) and BTS of older movie releases (like Mad Max Fury Road for example, among others). Worth checking out for anyone remotely interested in WB's film catalog!

Has anyone seen In the Heights yet? Probably will check it out tonight or over the weekend

I attempted but for some reason, movie releases are blacked out on my firestick w/ only audio playing. And im to lazy to switch to my Samsung app.

Oh man that sucks. Is it only for HBO Max app or other apps too?

I really enjoyed In the Heights as well, though I didn't find the songs nearly as memorable as those in Hamilton. The story was good, and the musical sequences had great energy, imo.

I enjoyed the first half but it ran a bit a long. Not sure where but I would have trimmed a half hour off.

Unfortunately, seems In the Heights is floundering in both theatres and HBO Max. Maybe word of mouth will save it?

Third-party streaming viewership stat org Samba TV reports this morning that 693k U.S. households watched In the Heights on HBO Max in their live+3-day window. The news comes in the wake of the Warner Bros. feature musical losing the No. 1 spot at the weekend B.O. to the third session of Paramount’s A Quiet Place Part II, $11.5M to $12M.

Warner Bros. President of domestic theatrical distribution Jeff Goldstein told the AP that whenever these Warner Bros. movies pop at the box office, they often equally translate as well in viewers on HBO Max. “Our experience, which is backed up on In the Heights, is that if the movie hits a high level in theaters, it hits a high level on the service,” Goldstein said. “If it hits a low level in theaters, it hits a low level on HBO Max. They’re really very comparable.”

Has there been any marketing for it? I don’t think I’ve seen any really.

Was gonna see The Conjuring 3 at cinemas, but decided I'll watch it on HBO Max instead. Kind of tight on money this month, but I will say, this is probably the last time I watch one of the new "streaming and theaters same day" movies at home. Space Jam 2, The Suicide Squad, Dune, Matrix 4, etc, are all films I'll be watching at the cinema.

Dune is a cinema must for me. I may also see The Suicide Squad and Matrix 4 in theaters, but I also may not. Space Jam 2 is an easy skip for me. Looks like garbage

So I will get use out of the day and date yet

As long as those movies come out on HBO Max for the rest of the year, I’ll be watching them at home. I want to make most out that $15/month price tag while I still can. Will probably downgrade to the ad supported version next year.

In the Heights? Huge amounts. They were throwing a lot of advertisement towards it. That’s why expectations were so high.

I tapped out after an hour and half due to lack of story and not very engaging characters. Also the songs were not catchy, memorable and hard to make out what they were singing especially mixed with the music. HBO Max so far this year saved me time in the theater watching wonder woman 84, conjuring 3 and now this.
