The vibe I’m getting just from that trailer is that, as ****ed up as Moore and her husband are, Portman will probably turn out to be the real nutcase.

Todd Haynes, you say?

Well, I did love Carol, which was a great film, so may look into this.

Charles Melton was the MVP. I liked it, but I wanted more from his and his children's point of view. I kind of wish the actress visiting was only part of the movie and that it focused more on the fallout.

Haven't seen this film yet, but I've learned enough from the trailer and the story it's supposedly based on.

Hence why I ask: why did the Golden Globes nominate this for Best Comedy/Musical?

Probably for the same reason they nominated The Martian for Best Comedy years ago:

Is it like the Academy where leading actors instead get nominated for a supporting role because they think it’ll be easier to win?

The awards shows don't place what should be in what box, it's the studios that decide what category the movie goes in.

That being said, there are some under the radar funny moments in the movie.

Why does he look like Handsome Squidward

I mean, I wouldn't put a movie based on a true story that deals with grooming and pedophilia in the Comedy section, but that's just me.

As a broader answer, the Globes have always taken movies they want to nominate but can't fit into Drama and shoved them into Comedy/Musical - see also: Get Out and The Martian

But it's less egregious here, as Field, Burch and the cast have all referred to it as a black comedy throughout the press tour.

Given the subject matter, I'm not sure that exempts the nomination from criticism, but alright.

I don't know, I still this it's a huge stretch being in the comedy character. Sure, the score is trying to make it campy, but nothing else about the film really is.

After “This is just what grown-ups do” and the level of prep she was putting into what looks like a Lifetime movie… I stand uncorrected.

Imagine writing that thinking people understand where you're coming from. lol

I’m torn between wanting to read the article to see what they’re getting at and wanting to avoid it at all costs.

Also curious who wrote it. Someone in the comments mentioned Armond White, but idk.
