Marvel Films MCU Phase IV!

I figure I'll make a prediction of what they'll announce tonight:

May 2020: Black Widow (cast appearance, character confirmations, footage shown to the crowd)
November 2020: Eternals (cast appearance, character confirmations, concept art)
February 2021: Shang-Chi (official announcement and possible casting announcement)
May 2021: Dr Strange 2 (official announcement)
July 2021: MCU Spider-Man 3 (official announcement)
November 2021: Thor 4 (official announcement)
February 2022: Black Panther 2 (official announcement)
May 2022: Captain Marvel 2 (official announcement)
July 2022: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (official announcement)

I do expect a third Ant-Man film at some point but I couldn't find a spot for it unless you move Captain Marvel 2 to 2023 which is certainly plausible as there seems to be a longer turnaround for sequels now. I could also see things like Thor 4, Dr. Strange 2, Captain Marvel 2, and GOTG3 being interchangeable date wise, but I think we'll still get the first two in '21 and the latter two in '22.

I'm also guessing that they wont announce any movies past 2022 as those are the only Marvel dates that Disney has already announced and Feige publicly regretting announcing so much in advance in regards to Phase 3 given how much that slate changed from the initial announcement. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they announced more beyond those dates.

I know Marvel has nothing scheduled for July 2021, but I think Sony will claim that for Spidey given the nature of that deal and we'll subsequently get four MCU movies that year. Since that will be a co-production, Marvel should have some breathing room to pull that off, though I think they will advance to four movies on their own in the distant future.

I don't expect anything in regards to the FF and the X-men aside from confirmations that their respective reboots are in active development. If either gets a movie announced, I would be feel confident on betting that it would be the Fantastic Four between those two however.

I think we'll also get some substantial announcements regarding the Disney+ shows.

You don't abandon a character right after you've finally hit their creative stride. I don't care how many lackluster attempts preceded it. They JUST found a Thor that works. Dropping him now would be dumb.

I had a feeling we'd see Thor in his own movie again, he's really emerged as a fan favorite and it pleases me to no end as someone who has been singing Hemsworth's praises since the very first Thor. The guy has always been a good actor with legitimate movie star charisma and absurdly good comedic timing for someone that attractive.

I hope you're right.

… but I'm not betting on it.

Smart man! :cwink:

Fantastic Four in Phase 4(or whatever it’s called) would make so much sense and be so fitting.

Like the late, great, Jon Schnepp use to say, “Phase 4 Fantastic 4!”

Come on, Feige! Give me something! I’m hungry for a finally good verison of the First Family outside comics.

You know that an FF announcement will make everyone go nuts.

I made a mistake Thor have been in seven movies. He hasn’t hit his stride, this character is diminished

I don’t care about box office, my focus is on creativity, artistic value and wanting to see different heroes. Instead of keeping heroes like Thor that we have already seen in six movies.
The MCU has never stopped introducing new heroes. How many years have we gone without a new character being introduced? This actually is one of Feige’s Fabled rules.

Also, like Gadot and WW, the character is a perfect fit for him.

Agreed, particularly now that billion-dollar earners are becoming increasingly common.

Just realized that two years ago at SDCC, this trailer dropped:

Yep, this is when the Thor boards exploded! I will never get bored of Beast Mode Thor.

Yeah, this year the weakest MCU film is going to be well clear of a billion dollars. The average just keeps going up. Not everyone seems to realise that a billion for a future film isn’t like making a billion pre MCU/TDK. There will have been a long period of compounded inflation, massive overseas growth and CBMs have also become totally accepted and a staple of cinemagoing habits since then.

There was a great reddit post talking about how Thor 4 is the first example of "back by popular demand" in the MCU. And I think its true. I think they didn't plan anymore Thor movies after Ragnarok. But the positive reactions following that movie to Thor in Infinity War and EndGame following on from Ragnarok and production on Akira getting cancelled freeing up Taika's schedule. The stars alligned and Marvel was able to green light Thor 4.

Now I do remember Taika or Hemsworth briefly talking in early 2018 I think that they had discussions about doing more Thor I remember Taika saying hed call it Ragnarok 2. (Jokingly of course) At that point I still dont think Marvel was quite on board with Thor 4 it wasn't until IW and EG where Taika and Hemsworth were able to sell Marvel on the idea.

one would think/hope they have a few surprise announcements up their sleeve

formally announcing what we already know would be a bummer. I feel like Thor 4 was supposed to be their surprise ace in the hole but that leaked, so I hope there is more to reveal.

Thunderbolts, Dark Avengers, Young Avengers, Spider-Man vs The Sinister Six, Deadpool 3, any one of those would be pretty cool surprises. I'm not expecting anything crazy like F4 or the x-men yet, but they need something thats gonna blow the roof off. And I'll tell you something else, more casting for that eternals movie ain't that.

Many of the fans were calling for another Waititi Thor straight after Ragnarok came out. I’m really glad everything has come together to make this possible. I can’t wait to see what his plans are next time out.

Yep, Sinister 6 or one of those Avengers films would be enough to blow the roof off I believe.

Thor hit his stride in Ragnarok. IW cemented his status in the MCU. AEG was somewhat divergent but also a meaningful stepping stone in his journey based on what he had gone through before. Humanizing the character gave him much needed depth and relatability.

Thor's evergrowning popularity is a valuable asset for the MCU and Marvel is well aware of that.
He's the linchpin between the old and the new.

i love that hemsworth keeps coming back for more, he’s only gotten better and continues to do so with each appearance.

Ragnarok truly is the gift that still keeps on giving

I think we really need at least one of the original characters to hang around in a big way to link everything together. An all-out replacement would be too abrupt a change for my liking.

The big ? is do they keep FatThor or do we get a quick rocky montage to get Thor back in shape.

As far as i'm concerned i would like for Thor to eventually get into shape in T4. And i would love to see his facial look from AEG too, that would be an amazing combination... Bring back the eye patch and the uru arm and we're in business.
