I wouldn't mind seeing both Characters. I don't see the need to race swap or anything if they go this route. Plus, it would be good to see something like Betsy having to take the body of Kwannon and vica versa. They could play into a bit of cultural appropriation/appreciation if they did. Eventually returning to become part of Excalibur as Captain Britain so that there aren't two Psylockes.
I quite like Betsy as Captain Britain now.

Yeahhhh, I don't see Marvel touching that story with a ten foot pole. They'd be barking up a very dangerous tree

Some things comic writers got away with in the 80s-90s would def not fly today

Oh. I thought she was wasted and the films didn't live up to her full potential.

Yet you want Marvel Studios to abandon/skip Rogue's character development from the comics

It's because it would be barking up those trees that I think it could work. They can handle them delicately but the whole thing with X-Men is that it talks about oppressed minorities as much as it is about families. It would be uncomfortable to see a white woman steal the body of an Asian woman, but also interesting to see an Asian woman experiencing life as a white woman. It could be handled in a way where both characters are still getting development and actually play off one another to bring that conflict to a modern audience to educate without preaching.

wasnt that plot similar to what happened on Altered Carbon?
the original asian character took the body of a white man, making the white actor the lead.
In our case, it would be the opposite: a white character taking an asian body, and this time, it would make the asian actor the lead one. So seems more fitting to current world.

General audience wont care who was the original character, the "original mind", because at the end of the day the asian actress will be the one taking over during the rest of the sequels, becoming one of the leads.

Keep Cykes and Logan white, make Gambit black, Beast can be whatever and Psylocke/Jubes are Asian. There is literally something for everyone with this roster. Rogue flies in in the sequel.

Oh no I would want it to be a bad thing, but done out of desperation for survival. Eventually to be reversed. Either way, just give me good Kwannon or Betsy stories!

I mean I am down for that team with Storm, ANY day of the week! Plus its a good mix of power sets for the visual element. Curious though, would you have Rogue with Super strength right off the bat? I actually think we are overdue a heavy hitting female. Captain Marvel doesn't seem to give me what I want at the moment, so would be good to see Rogue with that Powerset.

I do like Jean in the mix with that team as well. I mean I'm biased because I loved the animated series, but they balanced perfectly.

EDIT: Also, I hope the MCU normalises Beast as a decent human being! The Comics have made me loath him in the last decade because he is always involved with bad decisions. But TAS had him as a much loved character. Heartbreaking was the scene when he had to say goodbye to Ship.

I'm one of those people who want to see Rogue and Carol have their confrontation and she absorbs her powers so I would have her in the third CM movie first and then she seeks out Professor Xavier for help and joins the X-Men in the sequel. I also would love if she was played by a black actress, for some reason I just always pictured Rogue and Gambit as being black.

I love Jean Grey too, but I think they need to keep her off screen for a while in the MCU. The way I picture it is that she and Scott are broken up, the O5 team were a thing of the past, but now Cyclops is looking to bring the band back together since it's getting rougher for mutants.

But yeah just keep Jean away for a little bit and build up to her.

The reason why X-Men '92 isthe best selling comic of all time, is precisely because of the buildup. '92's X-Men was the apex of the team's development, and Claremont's swan song. It's the same reason why Endgame was the highest grossing film of all time

But I get wanting to get that iconography *right away). I'd just do it a little bit differently

I feel like there should be building blocks that lead to AvX.

Magneto killing humans to prove a point that mutants aren't to be f'ed with, Rogue putting Carol on the shelf and permanently taking some of her powers, Wanda being revealed as a mutant and all the craziness that happened with Westview, the Mutant Registration Act... it could all work leading to a crossover clash.

I feel you, but think about it. We've had 20 years worth of X-Men movies that were hit or miss.

Now is the time to come out swinging with the Jim Lee Blue Team. Characters with colorful costumes, wide arrays of power sets and personality. It's time.

So she got the training in a manner that didn't involve being 'employed' as a ninja. It wouldn't even be the first time a superhero movie has done that kind of story with a rich kid.

Kwannon was raised by the Hand. If you're gonna combine both characters, you'll have to find a way to combine both backstories

Who said the goal was to combine them? Betsy is the widely known classic character. She's known as an Asian ninja with a British name/family. So they will probably make her that in the movies. They obviously won't do the body swap, but there's no reason whatsoever why her ninja training has to come from having Kwannon's memories *or* from having Kwannon's backstory. It just has to be there. And if they want to also use Kwannon for something, they theoretically could, I guess, but I doubt that's even high on their list anyway. Certainly not using her as Psylocke *instead* of Betsy.

Just because they don't adapt a part of her story, it doesn't mean she is just going to stand there in back.

How many times Marvel Studios have ignored the origin story of their characters and turned it to something else?

This sounds a lot like Singer's take on the character in X-Men: Apocalypse. A rather generic, stripped down version of Psylocke whose defining feature, and really only thing to her character, is her powers

Where would the meat come from? How would you develop her character? I'm actually very curious as to what you'd have in mind as a substitute. I'm not a huge fan of the body swap idea, but at least it's something, and gives Psylocke an anchor for some sort of emotional arc

I was going for visual look of the characters not a cast.

Doesn't matter though, I'm using her as a model for what a Multi racial cast would look like.
