Marvel Films MCU X-Men - Part 4

What happened with the fun on here?? This thread has been pretty cool since the official day, we dont need to argue on this section of the boards like in 'the Fox section' lol.

Lets get back to more cool topics.
So... Angel on MCU X1 or not?

I think the MCU is responsible for meaningful representation and Psylocke has only ever stood for superficial, token representation. She's the one Asian character on the team despite nothing about her reflecting the realities of an Asian person. Race-bending is different. Marvel isn't adapting the story in which Carol is raped, but adapting an Asian Psylocke endorses the choice in the comics to make a white character Asian.

The repeated conversation around "is Psylocke Asian" is just a HUGE nope flag for me.
But what is racebending then? Endorsing the choice to make no main Asian character all? It could be a nope flag for you but you are either going to restrict opportunities for minorities that way or create even bigger nope flags for other people. It’s one thing racebending when you’ve already used your main minority and female characters. But if we don’t first get Storm, Psylocke and Jubilee there’s no point racebending the likes of Cyclops, Angel and Kitty.

I would quite like Warren Worthington existing as a reluctant mutant. I don’t necessarily want him taking up a spot on the field team in the first film but he can give a different angle to the others. I would like some evidence of other mutants who aren’t X-Men existing in the universe.

I would like to see Angel, Bishop and Psylocke in X1, along with Storm, Jean, Cyclops, Iceman and Forge as the tech guy. At first, I was thinking to save Storm for the second film and be the leader of that squad but I think people would complain without Storm in the first film.

Then for the second film, the Blue team, I'd feature Rogue, Gambit, Beast as the tech/med guy, Jubilee, the Wolverine, Colossus, Shadowcat and Xavier.

I seriously don't want to wait that long to see those characters just to pop up in a X-Men movie because that would be like the 2000s in which we speculate which new 1 to 3 Mutants are gonna join the team in the sequel. Like I want them there in the team already, already suitable for the missions and eXperienced in combat.

Then I'd also feature Cecilia Reyes as the med member of the group and Sage as the tech in the films. They could be teachers as well for those fields if the Mcu X-Men already have a fully functioning school.

So now @Marvel united is going with the narrative that there was no character arc worth exploring for the X-Men in TAS.

I feel like I have repeated a million times that just because Singer wrote them as background, doesn’t mean they WILL be that way if they are already active heroes.

But somehow my argument goes unheard, again.
They all went through the same arcs they did in the comics except in reverse. I'm not sure how long they had been a team in TAS before they rescued Jubilee but considering Storm and Rogue were longtime members, I'm guessing a very long time. I recently rewatched the first 5 episodes

I get your point, its an interesting approach to see a former x-man deciding to "move on" from the x-men life and taking his journey, and meeting their friends from time to time....

but taking into account what Fox has done with Angel in the 19 years of its franchise... right now I really need a whole different approach at Marvel and see Angel as an active member for at least 3 movies, next to Cyclops and Jean. Thats like a dream for me. To see Angel as an important x-man and at some point getting his big storyline: Archangel (in X4 or so, once Marvel uses Apocalypse again. Im not in a hurry, the more movies with Angel before Archangel, the better).

So ideally, Id have both Angel and Psylocke as team members for at least 3 movies, next to the A-list (Cyc, Storm, Rogue, Logan and co). And yes, Id love to see Marvel developing Warren and Betsy as a real couple. Would be pretty awesome for a change.

The problem is there's still a lot of uncertainty. Until Feige or Marvel Studios start offering up some details, we are still flying blind for quite some time.

When the character in the comics has a long history of pretending to be Asian, racebending them to be Asian in the movies is just a weird and messed up thing to me. Racebending a white character that doesn't have a history of fetishizing the race being bent is fine with me.

They can give that role to Sunfire, Banshee or Havok. Not Angel.

Even in the cartoons, Angel was also underused and never really appeared as a full time member of the team.

Oh I didn’t mean Angel moving on from being an X-Man. I meant him not yet having joined and still reluctant to do so until the 2nd or 3rd film, and he could then stay as a team member long term. I’d also like him to be a known “human” figure (with his mutancy for now hidden) along with the more villainous human background figures like Kelly/Gyrich/Creed etc.

I'd like to see them portray Warren as a billionaire, playboy and a philanthropist.

One of the most frustrating things about the relationship between Disney and Fox was the treatment of X-men characters in the comics and merchandise. Marvel announced today that a brand new chapter of X-men history is starting this Summer with Jonathan Hickman, the writer who wrote The Avengers when the property began getting hype from the movies. This new chapter was compared to other major milestones in X-men history and is coming in the form of two new series: House of X and Powers of X. These books promise an end to some stagnant storytelling in the flagship X-books.

Here is the promo: past, present, and future of the X-men.

Things are definitely changing!

I understand, and of course everyone has their personal preferences and pet peeves and are entitled to those. I just think more people with have an issue with standard racebending as they won’t even know about what us hardcore fans know. Plus on here amongst fellow fans I didn’t even hear of this particular concern till today, but I might have missed it. Hopefully Feige & co find a way of keeping as many people as possible happy with the choices they take, while also giving us all the film we’ve been waiting for.

That's good to see. I hope much more X-Media follows. A cartoon announcement perhaps

TAS used a lot of flashbacks. How do we feel about the use of flashbacks?

It depends on how it's done and the purpose. I'll be honest that the idea of having flashbacks to explain Charles and Eric relationship does bother me a little bit. Simply because we've seen so much of them in FOX. Or even worse, having flashbacks of Logan's Weapon X origin in the X-Men movies.

Let’s have Storm flashbacks this time.

We got flashbacks of Jean and Angel.

Or just another X-Men status quo change.

Marvel does it every year, and sometimes twice a year! It doesn't really mean much as there will be another one status quo change/ launching of new titles nXt year.

I find it weird tha these movies have never shown the flashback origins of any of the X-Men besides Wolverine. We never even saw Storm's parents
It’s time to focus on the the rest of the X-Men and show the GA why this team has been so popular in the past. From Fox’s big 4 I think only Xavier is needed to kick things off, and he doesn’t need a field role. References to Magneto and a credit scene for Wolverine would be cool though.

Every year, there's always an event, game changing event, that cancels older titles and launches new titles, not really because they came up with a groundbreaking story but because issue #1 sells more. Lmao Marvel Comics' gimmick every year. And another "event" heavily influenced by past events, recycling stuff once again. After six months, they'd be teasing something else because there's another upcoming milestone/event/gimmick/end of the world scenario... meanwhile the X-Men are in the middle of the Age of X-Men event right now, and will have tie in stories for another event War of the Realms before that upcoming milestone. Gosh I don't know if they are bored or have many cooks in the room.

I'm just excited because one of my favorite writers is writing X-Men.
