Marvel Films MCU X-Men - Part 4

I think LifeDeath is a great choice for a Storm movie, but I just don't think you can really do a 'loses powers' storyline for a character's first movie. That sort of thing is what you save for the sequel, for after you've already completely hooked the GA with the full spectacle.
A superhero losing his/her power is so overdone in the movies at this point. I don't want to see that in a X-Men movie eXcept if they adapt Decimation.

Storm should absolutely get her own movie. I'm a bit torn on what it should focus on though. I've been a big proponent for adapting Lifedeath 1 & 2. The Windsor-Smith art and deeply personal stories pretty much transcended superhero comics. However, a movie about someone with the coolest powers in comics without those powers is a hard sell. Storm was strong in different ways during that time, but the depowering story needs a particularly skillful writer. Lifedeath would be really well suited to two WatchmenHBO-quality TV episodes on Disney+, maybe as part of a X-men anthology that fleshes out the histories of the characters.

The episode "Whatever It Takes" from The Animated Series had an approach I liked. The Shadow King possessed the boy who essentially is the teenage version of the baby Storm delivered in Lifedeath in order to lure her into a trap. I thought this episode did a lot to give Storm a supporting cast and flesh out the Shadow King as part of her rogues gallery. A "Lifedeath" Disney+ lead up to a "Whatever it Takes" inspired movie would be cool.

Storm also has great stories with Callisto and Yukio where she gets an edge, dons her punk look, and starts considering proactively taking on the X-men's enemies (Storm basically had the development Cyclops got in the 2000s in the 80s). Storm just doesn't have an enemy that really tests her powers (ie gives the movie an excuse to showoff everything she can do). Even the Shadow King is a psionic entity, not a physical threat. If Marvel was smart (which it rarely is) it would assign a brilliant writer to write a Storm comic series right now to start doing that groundwork (supporting cast, rogues gallery, etc).

I've been thinking so much about Watchmen lately. What a TV show! If the X-Men movies manage to tackle social issues 10% as brilliant and sensitive as Watchmen did, I'd be very happy.

Also, the way they brought light to such an awful and "forgotten" event like the Tulsa massacre was great. If they are updating Eric eventually, I hope they can do a good work like that.

Anyway, back to Storm, I hope they can get a Ryan Coogler type of writer/director to invest heavily in Storm. Someone who's truly passionate about her and can tell a very powerful story, respecting her african heritage.

She certainly has a massive potential.
I was thinking the same thing while watching Watchmen. Imagine an X-Men movie educating people like that. I'd love to see it

While everybody was like "can you imagine Angela Basset as Storm?", I was like "imagine Regina King".

I'm super happy she got such a great role in Watchmen. She's ****ing great.

By the way, I wouldn't mind (at all) Storm getting a solo movie in the MCU before the X-Men getting their own.

Yes, yes and hell yess! There is one with Gambit in it as well and Yukio confronts Gambit for double crossing her in the past while Gambit charges a whole freaking boat and Storm takes on a horde of ninja's. I forgot the name of this arc but it was drawn by Joe Mad and it was awesome. I wanna see that!

I've thrown Janelle Monae's name out there, but Cynthia Erivo has been on my radar too, and given her awards buzz, she might be the high-caliber talent on the rise that the MCU likes to recruit.

I would prefer Coco Jones.

I just want a comic book accurate Sabretooth, violence, blood thirst and all that.
Like, I love Liev Schreiber's Victor, and X-men 1's was fun, but I really want a 80s/90s version of Sabretooth on the big screen.
Probably never gonna happen though because the movies tend to tone down a lot of the characters.

Mutant Massacre hasn't been adapted yet. We might see him there:

He was great in the comics at that time. I was really disappointed with the X1 version after that.

Same. I didn’t like that they made them into a mindless non-verbal animal.

Looks like The Falcon & Winter Soldier TV series will have the first appearance of an X-related location.

I'm still hoping for an X-Men: Evolution-inspired Storm for the MCU, i.e. one of the leaders / headmaster with Charles. Put a woman at the head of the X-Men, and Cyclops can be the field leader.

It’s interesting, everyone who gets cast will have to prepare themselves for the possibility of TV too now. That’s very different to when they were casting the avengers

I want a Storm that is more hardcore than X-men Evolution. That Storm was "Aunty Ororo" and was babysitting characters who should be her peers. I want the Storm that fights hand-to-hand with Callisto, rips Marrow's heart out, co-occupies the position of White King of the Hellfire Club, and summons hurricane level forces to take on Dr. Doom. I also don't really see Storm as the headmistress type. She ran the school recently and it was only ok for her. I think her priorities would be more global in scale.

Here's another question: Should the movies write Iceman as already out of the closet from the start or should that be a story told later?

Bobby's story has resonated with people who came out later in life and there's really good material with Emma. But maybe it's better to have representation from the start. Or maybe have it both ways. Have an out queer character from the start that isn't Iceman.

If Iceman is included make him already gay. Only because in X2 we got a “coming out” scene to his parents being a mutant. Don’t want to retread the same thing, however I’m down for another LGBT mutant in the roster or a part of the student body. Or if they want to switch things up update characters we’re familiar with like Colossus, Rogue, Angel, etc it’ll be dope if they made Kurt gay. its a known fact that most gay people who grow up in religious households battle with their faith. That’ll be interesting to see on screen plus dealing with the way he looks which a lot of gay men deal with to not being masculine or having a sexy body. So there’s a lot of interesting material the writers can work with.

why not a gay Wolverine?
enough of changing other characters when they havent even gotten justice yet. Wolverine has had 17 years being front and center and getting all the best material. Would be a good moment to start doing something different with him instead of repeating the same s*** over and over for the next 20 years.
Just give us a faithful Rogue, Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Angel for once. Thank u

Bobby could find out he's gay and come out in the first movie.

Obviously he's not a "big-ticket" hero like the others, but I really think people sleep on what Rictor brings to the table in terms of representation. He's a gay hero and also Hispanic, and all these films into the MCU, the most Hispanic representation we've gotten is Luis.
