MCU: Your Thoughts About The Infinity Stones (SPOILERS INSIDE)

but the gem in it might be.

No, the Spear was powered by the Tesseract (which *is* an Infinity Stone). So in all likelihood, the Spear lost any special powers as soon as Thor took the Tesseract back to Asgard.

I thought we'd already clarified that the Staff wasn't an Infinity Stone?

people speculate nevertheless, which is fine since we probably won't see the stones together until approximatley 2018/2019

the spear itself was never taken to Asgard IIRC. IF the staff or the gem on the staff is one of the stones, it is SHIELD property right now...

Was it actually shown that the staff took powers from the Tesseract or only speculated by a human character, in that case it could actually be a stone

It was stated specifically by Nick Fury in the movie to be Tesseract-powered, and Kevin Feige specifically confirmed this in several interviews.

Yeah, SHIELD probably has it in their possession; and no, it isn't likely to have powers any more, now that it's separated from the Tesseract. It's probably being kept in a great big crate in some nameless warehouse somewhere, being watched over by top men.

....Top men.

Yeah, Nick Fury could be wrong, he's not Odin, and earth science isn't exactly the best, but i guess Feige's word is a different thing, yeah, it seems like it's not a power gem. Either way we shouldn't be in a rush to seem them all, just the Tesseract had 3 films in Phase I, and in least one other gem is being left for Phase III as the eye of Agamotto.

When all the stones get together it's certainly going to be amazing.

one other gem is being left for Phase III as the eye of Agamotto.

Wasn't the eye of Agamotto already seen in the treasure vault in Thor? That would exclude it from being an infinity stone, since they refused to keep two together.

No, the Eye of Agamotto wasn't in the vault. It was the Orb of Agamotto that was there.
Whoever this Agamotto was, he produced some mighty artefacts

Speaking of Agamotto, why would the Vishanti use an Infinity stone? Aren't the Three even more powerful than the gems?

If you look starting at 2:01 and especially at 2:11 of this video, you can see Cap's shield in close proximity to the Skull as the energy of the Tesseract builds around him. Does anyone think Cap's shield was possibly bathed in cosmic radiation? If so, I wonder if that would become significant in the future.

Wasn't staff separated from Tesseract in the beginning of the Avengers? Yet it was able to work with the Cube and teleport Loki from the other end of the universe. Or it was just the Tesseract locating random demigod in random period of time and teleporting him in front of the Cube? I won't agrue with Feige though, but untold things can be turned whatever way they needed.

Well, the Tesseract is a doorway to the other end of space, right? Doors open from both sides.

I wonder if this means there's a second cube, linked to the first, in Thanos' possession... Which raises questions about the fate of a certain other villain.

We don't see what Loki is up to on the "other side" --- presumably Thanos' throne --- at the beginning of Avengers, so we can't say for sure whether the Spear had any power at that point. I've always assumed that Loki teleported *himself* into the JDEM/SHIELD lab, since he's known to have the "plane-walking" ability. Then, once the Spear was in the same room as the Tesseract, it absorbed its power.

Could be. Would definitely give writers an excuse to give the shield --- and Cap, for that matter --- some uber powers, if they wanted to.

I wouldn't think Thanos has the/*a* Tesseract (yet). That was his (alleged) motive in the Avengers --- he wanted Loki to give him the Cube in exchange for a mercenary army. When Loki's plan fell through, and Thanos still didn't have the Cube, he probably started his plan to make good on his "no barren moon" threat in hunting Loki down.

BTW, spoiler-tag it, but for those of you who've already seen TDW, did we see the Tesseract in that movie, and learn what they did with it after they took it back to Asgard?

It's mentioned a few times that it's been locked away somewhere, but we don't see it.

I'm on the team that thinks Loki's staff wasn't an Infinity Stone, but that it was powered by the Tesseract.

If the tesseract is the space stone, then it could be acting as a conduit to draw power from the other stones from across the universe. Energy from it for the Hydra weapons could be drawn from the power stone, and Loki's staff could be channelling the mind stone through the Tesseract.

Interesting concept....I like it.
If it's true, it would mean that Thanos has the Mind Stone already, accounting for three of them (Mind, Space, and maybe Power for Aether...?).

I still think CATWS would be a logical place to put the Time Stone, since an already observable theme deals with the past versus the present.

I don't think Thanos needs to have the mind stone. He might, but it's possible that the various infinity stones are naturally linked with each other anyway (as is sometimes the case in the comics), and that Thanos understands enough about them to build a device that could draw on limited amounts of their powers through the space stone. Possibly he focused on the mind stone because it would help Loki in his task without making him too powerful.

It could also make the Tesseract possibly the most important one, insofar as if one had the Tesseract and understood enough about it they might be able to use it as a shortcut to transport himself to the other stones, or even summon them to him, but now that the Tesseract is locked away safely in Asgard, Thanos needs to get them the hard way.

I dunno if we'll see the time stone in CATWS. Marvel doesn't seem to be in any hurry to introduce the stones and there's plenty of time untill Avengers 3. I find it unlikely that there would be another stone on Earth to be honest, given that the Asgardians seem to be against keeping them together, and the Tesseract was hidden on earth for so long.

The Eye of Agamotto might be, if it's a stone. Or Strange might recover it from Dormammus dimension, but other than that, I agree, it would be a very unlikely coincindence if more infinity stones are on earth.
And we already had one of them discovered in a Cap movie, so I doubt we'll get another one in a Cap movie again, that would be repetitive a little.

What if the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak is in the MCU and it's the Power Stone. What if fox didn't have the rights to it

Maybe the Orb in GOTG isn't a stone, but a map to one

That's an interesting theory. You just blew my mind. :cwink:

It's not like Fox's Juggernaut is using the Gem, so I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel got it.

I think the general consensus is the Tesseract is the Space stone. The Aethyr is the Power Stone. And that the Eye of Agomotto will be the Reality stone.

I believe I remember Feige saying CATWS will contribute to all this as well. Wouldn't it make sense if Bucky was being controlled by the Mind Stone? Just my $.02.

Upon watching Thor: TDW

The Aether appears to alter reality (it was going to bring about Malekith's darkness over all worlds, so I think that makes it the Reality Stone. The Tesseract was a portal throughout the cosmos, so that appears to be the Space Stone. Now, Thanos GAVE Loki that spear. He didn't forge it from the Tesseract. That would tell me Thanos has one of the stone himself (the Mind Stone) which he helped harness to give Loki that spear.

Someone said something about Red Skull obtaining a stone. That could come into play in C:TW if one of my Cap 2 theories is true in regard to Redford potentially being the Red Skull in disguise, ala Dell Rusk, happens. He very well could have a stone himself. If GotG introduces another Infinity Stone, then we definitely have 3, possibly 4, accounted for prior to AoU! I am thinking we're getting Thanos Quest basically!!!! All roads end with Thanos acquiring all the stones and becoming a god

My thoughts posted on the Thor: TDW discussion.

I'm thinking in the context of the next Thor film with my hypothesis:

Loki actually died.
He went to Helheim and made a deal with Hela to swap places with Odin.
Odin went into early Odin sleep given the battle at Asgard and the loss of his wife Frigga and Loki..
Loki used this moment to give Hela access to Asgard and take Odin.
Loki assumed Odin's identity and took the throne.
Loki fooled Thor and Thor left Asgard thinking all is now well.
Loki's actions on Asgard open the door for Ragnarok.
These actions set the stage for Thor: Ragnarok which will be quelled by Thor and co.
However the events of this story will allow Thanos to steal the Gauntlet and the Tessaract locked in Asgard's vault.
Thanos will align these with the other stones he has obtained e.g. Aether to complete the Infinity Gauntlet.
The conclusion of this story will be Avengers: Infinity -- which could be one massive war.
It will also conclude Marvel Phase 3 and reset all characters/ or set stage for new heroes and actors.

Note 1: Captain America was unable to assist Thor because the events of Malekith's plan and the attacks by Winter Soldier on SHIELD are likely simultaneously occurring.
Note 2: The Infinity Gauntlet parts are: Gauntlet itself, Tessaract (Space), Aether (Power), Loki's Staff (Mind), Guardians of the Galaxy? (Time), Dr. Strange? (Soul), ?? (Reality).
