Megan Fox Steps in Jennifer's Body

She isn't a bad (at least not a very bad) actress. She is hot and she played in 2 Transformers movies, so of course some wise ass people feel the need to hate and to diss her for that without knowing whether she can or cannot act.

I will reserve judgement until I see 4 or 5 more movies of her and then I can say whether she is bad or good as an actress. Now it just isn't the time.

Ebert is the end all, be all. Whether he likes a movie or hates it, he gives ample reason why. Pop culture in the states has skewered and parodied him for years, along with his now deceased partner Siskel. Plus, he recently had cancer surgery and can't talk or really move, yet he still reviews movies.
That's ****ing dedication! :woot:

You really need 4 or 5 movies to tell if someone's a bad actor? I don't get why some people are so willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and using excuses like 'her roles to date don't require good acting', at least La Bouf tried to make something of his lame arse character in Transformers. The likes of Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and Hayden Christensen were ripped into virtually from day one, but for Fox it's always lets wait and see. Part of me think people want her to be a good actress.

^The biggest difference is Fox hasn't tried yet. Alba thinks after every movie that she will inevitably be getting an Oscar nomination that year when in truth that will never happen for her in the foreseeable future.

Megan hasn't given her all. She is even very self deprecating about how bad she did in the first TF movie. I bet if you ask Alba she will say she did a great job in both FF films and was cast perfectly.:whatever:

I think the fact that Megan is self aware makes people want to give her more benefit of the doubt then other less than great actresses.

I don't think it should be four or five movies but I do believe that a lot of actors that are Oscar caliber today suxed donkey balles in there novice work. COUGH COUGH Brad Pitt COUGH COUGH

So Fox just hasn't tired hard enough yet? Just sounds like a case a of a poor tradesman blaming his tools.

Brad Pitt not the greatest actor, but have you seen Benjamin Button movie? You make it sound like Megan is going to blow us away with her talent one day

Exactly my point. I'm sure he was considered the "flavor of the month" early in his career but he slowly, very slowly improved. So I could see why people might need to give her a couple more movies before they completely right Megan Fox off as just a pretty face.

I agree with the parallels of Pitt and Fox. But, the slamming of her is quite unfounded. I cannot believe that fanboys are so harsh on her when they know nothing about her.

So you're making assumptions to prove a point? Come on man, the parallels aren't even remotely close between the two.

Why, because he's male and it's alright to let them slide but not women?

You seem very close minded JMC to not see at least a little similarity in their careers paths.

Both started on TV then moved to do big action movies, and then some campy horror films in there for good measure. The only difference is the lack of aninimity that Fox has compared to Pitt early on in his career.

And I'm not blindly defending her I'm just saying why spend so much time hating? It seems like a wast of energy to me.:oldrazz:

I don't really see the Pitt parallel but I don't think Fox is incapable of improving.

But let's be honest, women's timeline to shift gears in their acting careers are different.

People can go on and on about whether or not Megan Fox is can act. The fact of the matter is that most women in Hollywood have short careers to begin with. Most actresses reach the age of thirty where they start to worry about playing someone’s mom or wife and by the time they reach forty they are considered washed up. So basically years from now Fox may or may not to anything remotely memorable besides being in movies about fighting robots or she may do something really challenging and surprise everyone. Looks do fade and many actresses may be attractive but never tried to become better performers. As a result they end up being known for nothing more than eye candy.

That's all I'm saying.

That's the sad part. Hollywood is so misogynistic is scary. But there are even exceptions to that rule. Look at Charlize Theron, Cameron Diaz, etc... It's not impossible to overcome that stigma of eye candy to become a good or great actor.

Not really. Pitt didn't really become a bonafide sex symbol until 1994 with Legends of the Fall, after he had proven himself more than capable with solid performances in Thelma & Louise, Kalifornia, A River Runs Through It and True Romance.

No I'm pretty sure he was almost immediately considered a sex symbol after T&L. And, it's been ages, but was that really considered a good performance?

Yeah, it was. He was cited by many critics at the time as a stand-out.

Yeah, I don't think Fox will suddenly transforms (pun intended) herself into Merly Steep given the right role. From what I've seen of Fox, she's pretty and sexy, but her acting skill doesn't have that much depth. And really talented actors do make use of their first impressions, such as Ed Norton in the movie Primal Fear.

I'm no Fox defender, but that's not a fair comparison. Primal Fear offered a meatier role than a Michael Bay film written by Kurtzman and Orci.

Is it just me or did anyone get mixed signals from this movie? On one hand it seemed like an obvious jab on superficial teenage girls. On the other it seemed like Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried's characters are repressed lesbians. It's as if on the surface there's one story and under it another.
