Men In Black: International

Ok, just returned from seeing it again and i've now read the store on the behind the scenes issues. Here's what I think might've been what happened regarding the plot:

According to the report, F. Garry Grey allegedly wanted a darker story with a political edge and Walter Parkes thought it was a terrible idea. I think Grey wanted this movie to be more like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and have the idea of the MIB being infiltrated by an alien mole be an even bigger deal than what we got. However, i think in the end Grey's the one mostly at fault here, unlike the similar incident with the Hellboy reboot where the 2 meddling producers there didn't seem to understand the concept of this source material. Men in Black's a more comedy-centric series at its core and having a deadly serious plot like that might've turned people off regardless of other factors.

Whatever the case, the fact the movie came out coherent at all is nothing short of a miracle and I really didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as all those critics are saying. But again that's just me.

This is Sony’s metoo push to make all of it’s franchises more female. It started with the Ghostbusters franchise, the Ocean franchise, now the MIB franchise. Earlier this year Sony announced a rebooted a still successful Jump Street franchise with all female leads.

I’m all for the metoo movement, but Sony is going too far.

Um, no.

#Controversial but I don't think that people just want woke versions of their favorite franchises from the past. Although with good reviews this might have made some decent coin.

I don't see a problem with a female lead in MIB, but honestly even i was startled by how useless they made Hemsworth's character look compared to Thompson's. He came off as a complete buffoon and she came off almost perfect. I like when both leads in a team have strengths and flaws. Also their attempts at wokeness in the dialogue just wasn't well executed IMO.

Why would a female lead be a problem? The problem lies with a studio that thinks this attribute is by itself enough reason to make a movie that will attract crowds even withoutt a script. And clearly it didn't. The same logic applies in using big star names like Hemsworth.

Saw this last night. I would say I enjoyed this more than Men in Black II, but that's not much of an accomplishment because my opinion on that movie is really low. This movie is the very definition of a nothing burger. It's cringeworthy in its worst moments and mildly amusing at its best ones. Overall....meh

The problem is not female leads, the problem is the studios are rebooting and casting women in already established franchises. Sony is going overboard with the reboots. How about stop rebooting and cast female leads in more movies.

The summer movies rn are dreadful because imho Dark Phoenix and MiB are not trainwrecks that are entertaining like Venom, which is a lot of fun and you can laugh at it, but these are just bland, boring and forgettable. It's not that anything in them is AWFUL, it's just that it's all so meh

Yep, I will watch a dumb movie that is fun any time. But a dumb one that is also boring.. no way.

That's why I skipped DP and most likely will be skipping MiB as well.

If they re-release Endgame next weekend here in the UK as well, might go see it for a 7th viewing - at least I know I'm gonna have a fun time.

The bit near the end where he says we are the men, and women in black and then gives Thompson's chracter the thumbs up was sooo bad lol.

You know its a weak film when the funniest part in it was Pawny.

Then I would definetly avoid this movie, I realise its a new story so they have to set groundwork at the start to show us who these two new MiB agents are but the first 30-45 mins feel like a real drag and even though it gets better its doesn't get much better.

I'm interested to see how much it scores after it’s second weekend WW.

Already knew it was going to be a mess after watching trailers. I see all these other movies trying to copy the MCU comedy forumla but just doesnt work and in MiB most of the humour came off very cheesy and corny.

I would have liked to see Garys original, ''darker'' version than this campfest. And the original 2 MiBs had a serious thematic undercurrant to them.

Domestic: 52 M
Foreign: 129 M
Worldwide: 182 M

Men in Black International earned just $10.75 million (-64%) in its second weekend to bring its cume up to $52.689 million. That's a lousy hold by any measure, especially after a soft-ish $30 million debut. The Chris Hemsworth/Tessa Thompson sci-fi comedy has earned an okay $182 million worldwide, so the $110 million-budgeted sequel has a shot at breaking even. Still, it'll top out at over/under $75 million domestic and isn't remotely the kind of performance that merits another sequel.

The studio I’m sure is surprised. They wouldn’t have bothered for this pitiful run.

But they clearly didn’t think it would be a home run based on the relatively smaller budget compared to other big summer movies.

It's an alright movie. Better than I expected and at least better than MIB II

Tfw the lesser known Hemsworth brother headlines a higher grossing failure of a late 90s Will Smith franchise.

I heard she had some criminal issues with her past boyfriends.
