Merry something something ATHEISTS!

No seriously we atheist need a holiday, a day on which we can discuss the greatest things we hold dear to our hearts..LOGIC and REASON...oh and facts.
We have nothing but I guess that is what you get when you dare jump into the abyss.

Someone come up with a holiday and lets get this thing rollin.
How about Spirituality day...??
The great day on which we remember the men and women who dared to think out loud and not fear to tread where others caved and gave in.

Why do we atheists need holidays? Any day would simply be an artificial division of time set aside for an otherwise highly symbolic ritual.

But really, atheists need a holiday, why not celebrate a day that marks humanity's achievements? I know the reason I'm an atheist is because I believe that humans don't need a God to rule over them, and we have the strength, will and intellect to conquer any challenge we come across. So, I agree with the proposition that the moon landing be a holiday. Few other events come close to that one.

That would be awesome, I however would like it to be the day the first man left earth instead of the moon landing.

I'd like to see holidays made out of the release dates of some classic rock albums.

a good holiday for Atheists?

March 14th

also known as Pi day....

Pi is the pinnacle of reason and it would make a nice holiday for atheists

Thats funny because that implies that religion doesn't teach reason. Well from my study of the Quran the application of reason and the growth of the human intellect is part of the foundation of its teaching.

while you may not believe in God, the Bible does point towards a holiday for Atheists. It comes from the Psalms "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.'" - Psalm 14:1, Psalm 53:1

Hooray For That Judge In Florida, an atheist became incensed over the
preparation for Easter and Passover holidays and decided to contact the
local ACLU about the discrimination inflicted on atheists by the constant
celebrations afforded to Christians and Jews with all their holidays
while the atheists had no holiday to celebrate.

The ACLU jumped on the opportunity to once again pick up the cause of the
godless and assigned their sharpest attorneys to the case.

The case was brought before a wise judge who after listening to the long,
passionate presentation of the ACLU lawyers, promptly banged his gavel
and declared, "Case dismissed!"

The lead ACLU lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and
said, "Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? Surely the
Christians have Christmas, Easter and many other observances. And the
Jews--why in addition to Passover they have Yom Kippur and Hanukkah...
and yet my client and all other atheists have no such holiday!"

The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said "Obviously your
client is too confused to know about or for that matter even celebrate the
atheists' holiday!"

The ACLU lawyer pompously said "We are aware of no such holiday for
atheists, just when might that be, your honor?"

The judge said, "Well it comes every year on exactly the same
date---April 1st!"

Well said, there is indeed reason to be found in both the bible and the koran, just not enough for us atheist..correction..just not enough for me.

Ohh and thank you Metamorpho1977, we the "fools" thank you for your keen observation because everything that is writen in the bible must be fact, as if the bible doe not have flaws and you are able to deal with those imperfections.

I'm an atheist leaning agnostic and I still celebrate christmas/xmas whatever you want to call it.
I may not believe in a god, but really, since Jesus wasn't even born on Dec. 25th, if christians can celebrate that particular day, so can I. (just for different reasons mind you).

99% of the "flaws" that you guys think are there, are grammatical, not in context.

My belief in God is what you would call "apologetic" in nature. I believe what I believe, because of factual evidence mostly.

And I believe what I believe, because 1) I lack a reason to believe in a god-claim, and 2) of the lack of evidence for the existence of any god-claim from any of the religions/mythologies in the world

Hey that's cool don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I like christmas alot too, just not cause it's Jesus's B-day.

I beg to differ..but not in this thread and not right now.
This thread is for atheists, feel free to post but don't tempt us.
Did not make this thread to debate religion.

Look, we're sorry for making fun of fundie lunatics like Cellslim and others. That doesn't give you the right to come into this thread and blatantly insult us.

Do create another thread for being agnostic, or am I ok in here? :)

I hardly think anyone is sorry. :hehe:

Nahh you're ok here, there are some of us who lean towards agnosticism but acknowledge that God as presented in the bible/koran is a fictional figure.

people keep trying to seperate athiesm and agnostism. mostly because athiesm is prejudiced against while agnostism isn't. but some one can know that they cannot know if there is a god or not and yet have no belief that there is a god. since beliefs are about things we don't know for sure. now some definitions preclude this but i would say that points to my earlier point about people trying to seperate the terms. people can be without theism and without knowledge of god.

as for athiest holidays any vacation you take from work that isn't a religious holiday cold be considered athiest. but really it's best to be as reasonable as you can be any day religious or not.

although it's a Christian based holiday Christmas has steared away from normal Christians

xmas is just another way of writing christmas

X resembles the Greek letter chi, which is often used to abbreviate "Christ." Thus, X-Mas.

I don't get it.

Is this just another religion thread? or are we celebrating something real?

jesus wrote a blank check. mother ****er cant get cashed!

LOL

I don't get it.

To be honest, I saw an Eid for muslims and a Christmas for christians thread and thought we Atheist need a thread too. Just a thread for us to come together and stuff..and cry...and be overly emotional about something something..and stuff. OMG WE DON'T BELONG..OMG WE'RE GOING TO HELL>>>>:csad:

Just kidding.

I want to ask anyone who wishes to answer what the factors were that made him/her aware he/she was an atheist.
Just a short list will do, here's mine.

Darwin's evolutionary theory
Nature books and the discovery channel
X-men comics (yes evolution is promptly mentioned over and over again)
The lack of logic in the holy books.
Astronomy
My rebellious character
Honorary mention:
As a child I asked my mother if good people who were good and did good all their lives and never did a fellow human being any serious wrong, would they go to heaven if they were not muslim? She said no, they will not enter heaven.
