Fant4stic Michael B Jordan is "Flame On!" The Human Torch - Part 2

Gotta say the flame on effect looks nice enough. Still think the vents on the suit are naff. Also I wonder if it would have looked better if the flames were coming out of his eyes too rather than them simply lighting up like light bulbs.

I personally love his eyes. I think if flames were coming out of his eyes we wouldn't be able to see his eyes or see where he's looking.

This is a good illustration of why I like the wilder flame effects on this version. It looks like he's on fire vs. made of fire.

Looks good.

But the proof is going to be how this look outdoors in broad daylight.

Maybe it's the reverse -- maybe the suit keeps him from bursting into flames, and he actually turns it off to 'Flame On'.

It would certainly be more in keeping with the bodyhorror/disability thing if he lacked control and needed external assistance to be "normal".

If that is the case....shouldn't it cover his head too?

Yeah, that's been my concern with the 'grounded' approach all along. The more they try to explain the more those explanations will raise questions.

Better to just leave it at 'unstable molecules' and move on.

Jordan basically shut down all the trolls and racist with that recent interview. Like I been saying since he was cast, he definitely has the skill to do Johnny Storm justice and many comic book characters go through changes an different interpretations all the time, doesn't mean the old Johnny is going anywhere. This movie is just one of many FF movies and interpretations. Of course, there are still some "fans" who will dismiss this movie due to him not being white.

So just because a people don't want a black Johnny Storm, they're automatically racists?

What if they made a new Fat Albert movie and Fat Albert or another one of his friends were white? Would you be upset?

How about if they had Tyler Posey (the only young Latino I can think of at the moment) play Miles Morales in a future Spider-Man movie? I mean Morales is a Latino last name after all, changing him to look Mestizo and not black wouldn't be a big deal right?

Would AA opposed to those changes make them racists?

Just because someone is against Jordan being in the movie, it does not make them a racist.

Just because someone is against the idea of changing the race of the character for the movie, it does not make them racist.

Are some of the people against his casting racists....absolutely. But to lump everyone against his casting into one group and calling them racists is being a narrow minded bigot in itself.

Yeah, I don't think Jordan should be applauded for his rant about "shouldering all the hate" when it was such a blatant handwave. Funny that he's shouldering all the hate when Idris Elba, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Maximilio Hernandez, Chloe Bennet, Will Smith, Billy Dee Williams, Laurence Fishburne, and SO MANY OTHERS could be helping him carry that load...

I don't think race should be an issue with casting, but neither should gender. I think MBJ should have been cast as the Invisible Girl.

If that is the case....shouldn't it cover his head too?

The controller thing on his arm he presses to "Flame On" seems to have tubes going from it to his hand, its possible that some sort of drug is being injected into him to help him control his powers. If that was the case then the rest of the suit is pretty much just for show, probably just something for him to wear as normal clothing would burn up.

And now I think I hope that the button doesn't have a "Flame - On(or Off)" label on it as their nod to the catch phrase.

Are you a troll or a racist? If your not than I don't think MBJ was talking about you.

I'm not sure about all those names but besides Will Smith none of them off the top of my head are lead characters. I've seen it mentioned many times people don't care if supporting characters are race swapped but the actual hero is different.

Are you a troll or a racist? GREAT question for a mod, even if it's hypothetical! As for those names, Elba got poster billing for Thor and Chloe Bennet is basically a co-lead on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and has been since the pilot. They were also just some prominent examples off the top of my head. Dean Cain and Jason Momoa aren't exactly ivory skinned Anglo Saxon folk, and they've played Superman and Aquaman respectively. MBJ could have definitely addressed the racial remarks without being quite so extreme. He's certainly not the first actor to take on a role like this.

I agree. Jordan's comments weren't directed at everyone who criticizes the movie, but I imagine hearing over and over again that "you can't be Johnny because he's white in the comics" starts to have a personal effect. I have a friend who is black and a drama major. Every time she's cast in an Elizabethan or Reformation play she has to face the same criticism unrelated to her talent as an actress.
