Fant4stic Michael B Jordan is "Flame On!" The Human Torch - Part 2

The term "based on" doesn't mean "100% faithful to". There are enough elements in this new movie that are inspired by things from Ultimate Fantastic Four that the film can completely accurately be described as being based on that iteration of the characters.

Well, yeah, their names are Sue, Reed, Johnny and Ben.

The UFF comparison ---
Reed -- young man joins Baxter Institute as some kind of wunderkind and brings dimensional travel to the world. Gets Stretchy powers. Likes Sue.
Franklin - Runs Baxter Institute, has 2 kids there, Johnny and Sue (stepkid, but otherwise matches)
Sue - young woman Science member of the institute, gets Invisible and force fields. Flirts with Reed.
Johnny - young man not necessarily science motivated but at the institute. Flames on.
Ben - young man Reed's childhood friend who was present during Reed's garage experiments. Ends up as orange rock monster
Domashev is a member of the initial experiment that gives the FF their powers, and he gains powers from it -- with metal skin and hooded cape.

Beyond that, it's Trank/Kinberg winging it.
Sounds pretty rooted to me.

Nice to see that MBJ promoted the film this early on the Jimmy Kimmel Show and showed the entire trailer.

Nice interview...

It was a good interview, and MBJ comes across as likeable and motivated. I've seen a couple of his films and think he is a good choice both for portraying Johnny Storm and also for the chemistry he shared with Teller from That Awkward Moment. I'm not worried about his performance in the film.

Must be nice to get free Air Jordans too.

Somebody lit a perfectly good Bose sound system on fire! How wasteful.

Short interview about the casting hanging out. No news.

Says he expects a family and friends screening in July.

Yep, that's how bad they messed up his character in the film. He's also getting drunk with MBJ before the space jump which leads Ben to ask "are you guys in shape to go on this mission?"

I didn't think they could do worse than the last two iterations of Doom, but they somehow managed it. At least McMahon's personality made Doom menacing. There's nothing menacing here.

He's basically going to be their abrasive, headstrong IT pal who might have vague hints at being from a different country. That's so dumb.

Is the 4 bars on his chest really supposed to be their version of the 4 insignia?

That seem to be their (stupid) nod to the original costume, yes. Tally marks do not a Fantastic Four icon make.

Good grief that boy has some big ears...lol

I was thinking the same thing, but with the Thing not even wearing pants, how would you give him the IIII or IV or 4?

Maybe at one point in the film he'll sit down on a grate that Johnny superheats as a joke, and 4 lines will get permanently burned into his ass.
