Michael Mann Thriller Starring Hemsworth

Yay! Fellow Vice defenders unite!

Sounds promising then. I was a little disheartened after reading some harsh reviews.

I'm just convinced that critics aren't in tune to what Mann's doing. He's really a singular artist who's doing his own thing, and you're either into it or you're not. No other movie looks like a Michael Mann movie, he's that distinctive.

If you're tapped into his frequency, there really isn't a better experience in the cinema. I felt it with Miami Vice and I felt it with this. This is truly a work of art that we don't get often, and when we do, critics are dumbfounded and think it's too abstract and random because it's so above the norm from the drivel they sift through all year.

Every frame, every shot, every musical cue are perfectly in sync here, and it just looks and FEELS awesome. You just FEEL the film, and people/critics can't enjoy that when they're doodling critique notes on their legal pad or checking their watch.

I thought Miami Vice was pretty embarrassing so thanks for the warning.

I didn't really care for Miami Vice after seeing it the first time. I gave another chance a year later and realized it's a great film. I wouldn't say misunderstood masterpiece , but it's much better than some critics gave it credit for.

Bad movie and cyber thriller. Hemsworth was miscast and his accent changed in almost every scene.

Wei Tang could barely even speak English for this film. She has a monologue where she seems to barely even understand what she is saying. It was the most bizarre scene ever. She just meets this guy and she's reciting this odd poetry.

As a cyber thriller it was a letdown. The plot is not relevant. There is an odd reference to 9/11 that totally didn't fit at all. Live Free or Die Hard was a better cyber thriller with stronger villains. The villains in this film were essentially low-rent Die Hard bad guys that got put into a Michael Mann film.

If you liked Miami Vice, there's no way you won't absolutely love this movie. I love Vice and will defend it until my dying breath, and I might have to seriously ponder if Blackout is his best ever.

Dude, the tension of the last 30 minutes made me literally awe-struck. The critics got this so wrong, it's embarrassing.
 Glad you enjoyed it. While I tend to agree with the critical consensus on most films, this is definitely one I'm looking forward to seeing and judging for myself.

This is hemsworths "swordfish"

Like jackman I can not see him as a computer hacker.

I was semi-interested in watching this movie but I too can't buy Hemsworth as being anywhere near smart enough to work on computers, let alone being a hacker. :whatever: The dude looks like a flippin' model and looks like an Arts & Sciences C-level college student at best. :oldrazz:

I think thats the biggest problem with films similar to this, trying to convince the audience that a hacker can go from sitting behind a keyboard to being a proficient killing machine with a semi-automatic weapon. Hemsworth is fine as Thor and he was great in Rush, but I'm having a hard time seeing him as a keyboard warrior, just dont buy it.

Its a shame too as I love Mann, Heat and Collateral are two of my two all time favourite films, but as I wasnt a fan of Miami Vice and others seem to elude to that being a good pointer for this one and the trailers just not doing it for me, might have to give this one a miss:csad:

They kind of explain it in that he says while in prison he had to exercise his body as well as his mind. Tang said he looked different in the pics her brother showed him, so he apparantly was kinda scrawny before. And I do think they kinda made her fall for his ass way too quick.

I could buy Hemsworth as a hacker if he wasnt still Thor ripped. I mean Ive never met a hacker in real life but I doubt many are as ripped as Hemsworth.

That is cool that they explain it though. But most people wont even know that he explained it going in to the movie. They shouldve made it a trailer joke or something.

But even besides that it looks boring. I'll just wait until the blu ray

I always disagree with the notion that particular characters HAVE to have a certain "look." Why can't someone look like Hemsworth and still be a hacker exactly? Do all hacker's have to be scrawny socially-awkward nerds with thick glasses for example? That sounds like stereotyping. I'm not saying that Hemsworth works in this role (I haven't seen the movie yet), but his looks wouldn't decide whether he's believable in the role or not, to me at least.

Michael Mann makes the ugliest films. It almost amazes me how muddy and low rent they look.

Thankyou! His films look ****ing horrible.

And by the way, this isn't Chris Hemsworth's Swordfish, this is Liam Hemsworth's Paranoia, the movie totally bombed on Friday and only did slightly better than Paranoia. The Hemsworth brothers should stay away from these computer movies.

Manhunter, which is in my Top 10 Films, is probably the easiest on the eyes. Absolutely love how it looked.

I haven't seen Thief yet, but Arrow are finally releasing the Blu-ray in the UK at the end of the month.

Ouch, not a very good 2015 start for Legendary/Universal. And they've got Seventh Son next month...

Shouldn't WB at least have their hand in that? Wasn't it made well before the Legendary/Universal deal?

You're welcome Sundance. :yay:

It is kind of criminal, because he is a decent director with some rather good movies under his belt, but it is like he assaults your eyes with every film nowadays. They go from bland to unwatchable visually. So much wax, so much crush.

And yeah, this is a disaster. Considering the trailers, I expected it. Love me some Chris Hemsworth. After Rush, there is no doubt the man can act. Hopefully "In the Heart of the Sea" will be worth the time.

Legendary sold the distribution rights to Universal. So, WB's name is no longer attached to Seventh Son.

Ah, that explains it. I should pay better attention to the TV spots. Thank you.

Mann has some gorgeous looking films, but this wasn't one of them. ALI with Will Smith is probably one of the most visually striking films I've seen.

This film is out of focus more than it is in focus lol. It's a visual mess. Collateral, Ali, Miami Vice, Heat, and Last of the Mohicans are all beautiful looking films, so I don't know what you guys are watching...

Public Enemies did look like **** though :o
