Obscure addition. Is Rooker the right choice for Yondu? Is Yondu the right choice for Rooker?

I can't say I thought he would be in the movie. lol. Rooker or Yondu for that matter...

I suppose its better than completely fabricated secondary characters amirite?

The original Guardians are basically the only 1960s Marvel Superheroes to completely fail to make any sort of impact on Modern Marvel. I understand they have their cult...but wow. Yondu.

Like I said, it seems like we have two options:
we get supporting characters with some (even nominal) basis in Marvel lore (like Batroc and Yondu), OR we get characters invented by Hollywood/Disney/script writers for plot development.

Raza, (IM) Erik Selvig, and Phil Coulson are prime examples of this.

from the source:

Moving on to the rumor of the day, my trusted industry source tells me that Marvel is eyeballing someone that they already have a relationship with for the lead in a confirmed Phase Three projects: Dr. Strange. The name? Actor/screenwriter Justin Theroux. There’s no word on whether or not he is the only name being looked at for the part of Stephen Strange, but I am told that there is a strong interest over at the House of Lee in seeing Seamus O’Grady become the Sorcerer Supreme.

Well. Any inkling that Marvel gives me about a Doctor Strange film in the works is good news to me. But I'll believe that casting choice when I see it. Seems way too soon.

They haven't even started casting Ant-Man yet.

What does that have to do with this thread?

Anyway, interesting that the original Guardians may play a role in this. I'm guessing they were a team that got decimated and Quill's team takes their namesake from them.

Something tells me Yondu wont actually be on the team and could be a villain, maybe one of Thanos Henchmen.

this might mean we see some time travel. maybe even a kang mention that sets him up for a later movie. or at the very least it means we might see knowhere and time travel.

think he's gonna look similar to Tsu'tey from avatar

Yondu actually does look like Rooker when you put the two next to each other. Slap some blue make up, a red mohawk, and pointy ears on Rooker and you have Yondu.

Wouldn't be surprised if they get Nathan Fillion to play Vance Astro...although that may be a waste.

Can't wait to see what they do with Yondu's mohawk. :)

Some water-cooler talk about Vance Astro in a few of this threads --- I'm not feeling it. How could they give Vance Cap's shield when, you know, Cap has it right now....?

he's from the future and from what we hear this might take place in 2045

Not surprised Rooker was cast in this, but I figured he would've voiced Rocket.

Don't know why some people thought Rocket would have a country voice.

Rooker is always a welcome addition. The guy has amazing talent. I just hope we don't see the Udonta undies. I don't want to see that much of Rooker. :woot:

I think it was a given that Rooker would make his way into the GOTG movie. I do like Rooker, however...

I have to say that I AM a little bummed that they look to be exploring the time travel stuff. This might be a personal qualm, but my contention has always been that this stuff cannot be done in a logically coherent manner. Therefore, avoid.

Hopefully, the original guardians exist in the present day (rather than the 31st century or even 2045 as per the recent future-bike-speculation), and get tragically wiped out by, say, Thanos leading to Star-Lord putting together a new GOTG team.

I dont think the Time Travel plot is set in Stone just yet, considering Rockers age and the fact that he really doesn't suit the character at all I'm guessing this is a case of Yondu in name only kind of thing and maby his a member of Universal Church of Truth or something like that.

Disappointed to see this was the next character announced. I need to hear who's playing the rest of the Guardians.

I somehow doubt that we'll get the 1960's Guardians travelling back in time from the 3000's in order to form a new Guardians of the Galaxy in present day.

More likely, I think, is that we'll get be introduced to a lore in which the Guardians is a mantle handed down to various teams throughout the ages, with Yondu and his team (probably consisting of Vance Astro, Martinex, Charlie-27, and maybe Talon and Replica) getting defeated at the hands of Thanos and handing the torch to the new team.
