Microsoft E3 2009

Looking at the way things are going, i say that motion control is here to stay, so, the sooner you guys accept it and start looking at it´s potential, insted of how much you hate it, the brighter future you´ll see for gaming.
And this coming from a guy that never experimented motion control before.

If you've never played around with motion control before how can you even have an opinion? Let alone proclaim it to be the bright future for gaming?

Common sense.
Look at the Wii and now it is selling, and, do you really think that motion control will ever die?
I´m not saying that there will be a day that gaming it´s all about motion control, but motion control will continue to evolve, that´s a given, there is no turning back now.
So, we might as well look at it and at it´s potential, if not, in the future, we might as well give up on gaming altogether.

I'm just so used to Nintendo getting it's ideas stolen...I could see it happening again.

Of course, they can't half ass it. I've tried using the motion sensor on my PS3 remote at times...and it can be a train wreck depending on the game. I cannot, for the life of me, steer a car with the motion sensor in Burnout Paradise on the PS3.

Or we could just drop gaming almost all together. I know I'd probably go to the movies a lot less if every movie were filmed in 3D. Just because something is inevitable doesn't mean everyone should just sit back and start trying to enjoy it. Brighter future *psst*, maybe for some, but definitely not me

I´m not going to say it will be a brighter future for me either (due to the never used it and all), but i´m willing to give it a chance, it might end surprising you.

If you enhance something, it´s not really stealing it, at least, imo.
Even if you don´t enhance, somethings are seen as part of gaming, if not, one could say that Nintendo stole Microsoft´s idea of the XBLA, when they made the WiiWare.
And i´m still waiting for Nintendo to have achievements (when everyone has them, from Sony to Steam and World of Warcraft, i bet that Nintendo will soon follow).
But, because motion control is not the same as XBLA, i go with the enhance part.
If the full body motion thing ends on being what the rumors say it is, and enhacement on what Nintendo did, the next step in motion control evolution (to start, you control it with your all body, not just a peripheral), i say to Microsoft, go for it.

Well, stealing is a harsh word...agreed.

But, certainly it's something to notice when Nintendo makes such big advancements and gets forgotten for it.

I agree, though. It's at a point where everything is fair game, and it's simply about keeping up with the competition or getting left behind. I guess it has always been.

I dunno if motion control can be the next thing, just because of the sheer venom I see some gamers have for it.

Personally, I can live without. I have for a very long time.

Another rumor going around is that Microsoft has an announcement to make about a portable console.
Now, anyone can say that it´s a stupid move, there really isn´t any room for a new portable, one that can go against the DS, but, after reading about it, i´m starting to think that the rumor might be true.
And it will not go againts the DS or the PSP, as it isn´t really a console (it doesn´t have retail games), but more of a mix between a portable gaming device and the Zune, with access to Live and the marketplace.
And people are saying that it can very well blow all our minds.

I dunno, but, then again, i´m not big on portables...

Neither am I, but I remember a video I saw a couple years ago where some kid had a portable and was playing Halo. But the unit was about the size of a hardcover book. And for me being a 30 year old, handheld gaming doesn't have the same appeal it did back in the 6th grade when the Gameboy came out.

Yeah, supposedly you're going to be able to play your XBLA games on it. I love the Zune I have right now waaay more than the iPod I use to have, but if this was true I might consider upgrading.

I only like motion games when it's a racing game. It sucks for everything else.

I'm not a huge fan of motion controls as they are now. If they ever get precise enough to do 1:1 motion control (i.e. swinging a Wiimote in a Star Wars game and having your lightsaber make exactly the same motion), I'd be all over them. But as they are now, they're just an imprecise alternative to normal controls. Instead of pressing a button to make your avatar act, you do a pre-set motion to make your avatar act. 1:1 motion control is cool; anything less (like what we have right now) is a waste of time.

Considering that the Zune has been an overall failure, I really don't get why Microsoft would do such a thing.

http://kotaku.com/5258234/e3-round-table-microsofts-big-play

Here is a discussion from GameTrailers' Geoff Keighley, Game Informer's Andy McNamara, N'Gai Croal and Kotaku's Brian Crecente about E3's conference. The first half is actually about 3rd party and the conference in general, they actually don't start focusing on MS until about the halfway point.

Pretty good speculation on their part, I'm sure the Xbot community won't care for some comments made by Mr. McNamara (What? MS not magically, they's the most magically company ever, gaming wouldn't even exist, that's magic mother****er, harr harr), but overall very good. They stay out of the praise/hate category for the company and talk fairly rationally about the situation and talk about what they're expecting to (much more realistic expectations then MS revolutionizing gaming and ripping the gaming world apart) and what they think MS needs to do to 'win' the 'conference wars'. Looking forward to the Sony/Nintendo focused one

Crescente is right, what Mattrick said was that "MS is gearing up for a big presence at E3 which will completely transform how people think about home entertainment."
He never said anything about the 360 as a gaming platform, but rather about home entertainment, so, it can very well be another thing like Netflix, but with music or tvshows or something.
Either he was talking about the portable thingy or fu** Microsoft!
When i buy a console, i do it for games, not movies, tv or music.
Give me games, or to hell with you guys.

Wasn't there supposed to be some tv service offered through the Xbox? Maybe this is it.

More on this APB game, confirmed to make an E3 appearance

Looks like we'll be seeing more capri pants from All Points Bulletin developer Realtime Worlds in a few short weeks, as the company announced this morning its intentions to attend E3 2009. Dropping the knowledge on its blog, along with the "first in-game screenshot" of APB (seen above), RTW said, "Yes, we WILL be at E3 this year and this will mark the start of lots more news, activities and information coming out about APB: All Points Bulletin."

RTW also teases a bit of info on the game, noting that the screen it provided is meant "to give you another look at the awesome character customizations that will make up a large part of APB," rather than just show you some more folks holdin' gats. Like you, we're stuck waiting for another two weeks to find out more. Thanks, Realtime Worlds!

If APB plays well, I think it could be a pretty big game.

More on the "ZuneX"...

The rumored specs are:

--32GB flash drive
--Lithium ion battery with 9 hours of gaming time
--4-inch, 640x363 pixel multitouch display with 160 ppi resolution
--4 analog buttons--X, Y, A, B
--2 shoulder buttons
--D pad and optional thumbstick attachment
--Compatibility with Xbox Live Arcade games and "ZuneX© originals" (sic)
--Compatibility with the just-announced OnLive game-streaming service.
--MicroSD slot
--Built-in microphone
--Tray for cell phone SIM chips
--Bluetooth 2.1
--802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi with wireless Zune-to-Zune sharing
--Video: WMV, H.624, MPEG-4, DiVX 3.1
--Audio: AAC, MP3, WMA, WAV, MP3 VBR

The point is not that it´s good or bad, but the Compatibility with the just-announced OnLive game-streaming service bit.
If that´s true, expect the 360 to have Onlive too, being the first company to jump onboard the cloud gaming train.

Those "ZuneX" specs look like total BS. Everything I've read about the "ZuneHD" suggest that it is pretty much an ipod touch competitor.
