i know, i mean its been like this for almost 80 years and people have questioned it but, yes they've accepted it for what it is. But, is there anything Smallville fans won't moan about.
The lask of disrespect toward the Superman character by some of you Smallville fans I'm reading is a bit concerning. Are there any Superman fans that actually think these comments like "The secret Identity thing is stupid" or referring to classic Superman elements are "cheezy and dumb" is something people should be called to the floor to answer for?
I mean, isn't there another Superhero character you can better relate to if you think these pretty standard elements are cheezy and dumb? It's like saying you love watching Star Treck, but hate the space and alien stuff.
One thing is to imagine beings with superpowers, but something as simple as a disguise should be treated in a logic way, either you wear a mask or alter your look enough to fool people. Overall I enjoy Superman, but it doesn't mean I have to like everything about it.
even in comics and movies in Smallville many people know clark WITHOUT glasses including lana lang and i m sure his high school he went to
people he met in smallville
so it's not juts a show in comics clark didn't wear his glasses untille He went to Metropolis
people are complainning how "evertone knows" clark's idneitity
but it doesn't occusr to thme that in comics people of smallville can make a connection between superman and Clark since they know him without glasses
I think the secret identity is just accepted, has to be.
I mean, in a real world, a pair of eye glasses and wearing your hair different isn't going to fool anyone into thinking you're someone else. But in a comic or cartoon, somehow it makes sense. This is a comic book show... why does it have to be different here? It worked for the Reeve films...
Anyway, people come in here and complain about how stupid Smallville is because no one who knows Clark would fail to notice that Superman is just him without the glasses.
I ignore them because arguing it will not do anyone any good.
There are two ways the glasses will work just fine in this version of the character.
One is you're all assume Lois and Lex will not know his true identity in this version which I don't think is something we can assume. I think it's possible they both will know very well who Superman really is. Lois wont tell to protect her friend, Lex wont tell because knowing is power.
A second way this could work is that this version of superman just might not be a public figure. Not standing around, never allowing clear photo's of him. Lois could spend years only getting fleating glimpses of this Blue and red clad "guardian angle" who happens to save her cookies from the fire now and then.
You have a point... I've wondered about the same thing.A series based 100% on the comics is not going to work, is just too cheesy and dumb. Have you ever thought that Lois not recognizing CK and Superman as the same person is just ******ed? That the classic suit is kind of cheesy nowadays? That Mxy as it is won't work for an adult audience? That's one of the reasons SV changed Bizarro, to make it more realistic and sophisticated, and it worked! Most fans like SV Bizarro, only fanboys wanted the dumb Bizarro with his "Me Bizarro save...".
Is just dumb to pretend glasses would work to cover your secret identity, it doesn't cut it on live action, so now Smallville has to deal with it. Is not credible at all and it makes the characters look stupid. Superman's mythology needs changes to adapt it to today's standards, the world is not a naïf place where a pair of glasses are going to fool people about your "secret identity".

^^^ by the way even in comics lex was freind of clark (maybe in birthright issue)
they even went to school and college togehter

you know, i always suspended my disbelief and accepted the glasses, but after seeing this guy, i think people can actually pull it off.

(yeah i know the beard, but it's scant, barely there)
Budget is always a factor but I'm not 100% sold that Miles and Millar walked off on their own and not thrown out on their a$$es.I'm not sure if anyone saw this yet....
" The Superman Homepage received word from a network source who told us that Gough and Millar were not given any such ultimatum. We've been told that, like many of the cast and crew, Miles and Al did not have a contract for season 8. With the CW struggling financially, the studio decided that they would only pick up the show for the new season at an extremely reduced license fee. The CW are basically looking to do an 8th season show at 1st season prices, but the problem is "Smallville" still needs to pay 8th season contracts on everyone. That is a serious amount of money off the screen. Which is why cast members such as Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum and Allison Mack are not coming back for a full compliment of episodes next season. My sources tell me that these budget cuts were the reason Al and Miles decided to leave. The budget cuts wouldn't allow them to make the kind of show they wanted to make or felt the fans deserved.
Our network source also told us that the only reason Kristin Kreuk is returning for seven episodes in Season 8 is because the studio allowed her to star in the up-coming "Street Fighter" movie. She really had no interest in returning to "Smallville" next season. Michael Rosenbaum and Allison Mack, who are not contracted for season 8, are yet to make a final decision and are prepared to walk.
We've heard all along that a plan was in place from the beginning on just how the series would end. So what of those plans? We've been told that the season arc finale they HAD planned would have had to be completely reworked without cast members who may not be there next year."
