I totally agree, and I believed that since Way of the Gun. Love his direction on Jack Reacher as well, and I think it's a big reason the second one was not as good. But I think he's a very talented and creative director that puts unique spins on classic cinematic ideas while also not relying on lots of quick cuts and over-editing that drives me nuts.
Yeah, I lost interest in the Jack Reacher sequel the moment it was confirmed that he wouldn't be involved, because it was clear as day to me that he was what made the first one special.

There's a visceral quality to his action scenes (not just in the visuals, but in the sound and editing) that really sets him apart, imo.

Hence the muscle car. :hehe:

"I think that Ethan's current troubles might be connected to the first film.
Not sure how yet."

That'd be crazy cool. :hmr: No idea how or why, but given all the continuity (more character-wise than plot, aside from Rogue Nation to this) since Bad Robot started producing, it'd be cool to give the De Palma and Woo movies a little tip of the hat somehow, even if 2's pretty blahhh.

And yeah, wow, this trailer was bananas. I think I might like Ghost Protocol a teeeeeeeny bit more than Rogue Nation, but that one was a blast too.

Pretty crazy, who'd have thought the last 3 M:I movies would on balance be consistently better than the last 3 Bond movies? :oldrazz: At least I'm enjoying them a lot more, even if Casino Royale taken in a vacuum alone reigns on top.

Great trailer, loving the look of this and it looks like McQuarrie won't disappoint. Totally agree with the people saying he is an under rated director on here.

I just realized what the news banner on the tv behind Hunt says at 00:51. "ee nuclear attacks." That is "Three nuclear attacks." And there is news footage of a city burning.

So some bad guy sets off three nuclear bombs! :wow:

So not only does the title refer to the fallout from the events of Rogue Nation but it also refers to the political and literal nuclear fallout of three nuclear attacks. Three nuclear bombs that were fueled by three spheres of plutonium that Ethan lost during an operation. That's ****ing insane. Even for a Mission Impossible film.

Hell yeah, didn't pick up on that.

That's a raising of the stakes for sure, no more theoretical horrors but something's actually gone off.

Makes me wonder if Hendrick's in Ghost Protocol may have been connected to all this Syndicate stuff rather than a lone wolf. And whether Hendrick's attempt to nuke San Francisco was the Syndicate's first attempt.

Now that's a trailer. Right so[BLACKOUT] Henry is a 'spy in the camp/defector'[/BLACKOUT], is that right ?

Tom Cruise is the Houdini of action films. At great physical risk he aims to please the audience

Fantastic trailer. McQuarrie makes action look Goddamn gorgeous.

So do we want to speculate on the victim cities/countries of these three nukes?

The trailer overall seemed to be set a lot in Europe, so probably elsewhere.

GREAT Catch!

Something that I have always wondered about.
When they refer to the Secretary who will disavow their actions if caught or killed,
Secretary Of State?
Secretary of Defense?
Or is the person who oversees IMF operations merely referred to as the Secretary?
Of course, the producers of the television show might have a different answer than the producers of the films.
ANY answer will do.
Thanks!

This feels like QOS meets s4 and s6 of 24, with that sexy M:I peppered in.

IMDB has Tom Wilkinson listed as playing the IMF secretary in Ghost Protocol.

Yeah the IMF leader is called the Secretary, as they’ve called him multiple times. Hence Brandt’s line to Baldwin at the end of RN: “Welcome to the IMF...Mr. Secretary.” Because before that, he was CIA Director.

Henry Cavill going SAVAGE in that bathroom fight is easily my favorite part of the trailer. Something about that whole sequence just looked vicious and I really can't wait too see it in the actual movie.

So after seeing the trailer, anybody have any theories?
Is there a particular way that you want the story to go?
Anything that you fear?

Looking forward to the Cavill/Cruise fight.
