If Ethan retires you can center the franchise around a new lead a new IMF agent and center it around him or her...I mean what else is there left for Ethan at this point? I mean he is already married and for all we know Julia could be pregnant and if she is then you would think Ethan would want to settle down once and for all

I have wondered if the film is going to end with Julia telling Ethan that she is pregnant.
But, that doesn't mean that the series is over.
Having children would make Ethan quite vulnerable.
Kidnap his kids and he will be forced to whatever the villains want.

I'm not gonna lie....I'm kinda wishing this film is the last hurrah for Ethan. Tom is 55 years old, and there's only so many fresh ideas for crazy stunts.

I'd like to see them reboot and make Jim Phelps the lead again.

Ethan may be coming to the end of his story.
But , I don't see them rebooting with Phelps.
With the impact that Phelp's betrayal Had on the MI series,
I don think that you can gloss that over and simply reboot with Phelps.

If the MI movies can "gloss over" Jim Phelps being a good guy in the original series, simply rebooting and reverting him back to said good guy status will not be a problem.

I think of all the franchises out there, M:I is easily "rebootable". You don't have anyone's name on the title. It doesn't have to be Ethan Hunt.

I said I'd like to see them reboot with Phelps. I didn't say it was likely to happen, and I didn't put a time table on how long they'd wait to reboot, so I'm mystified as to why you're responding to me as if I did either of those things.

If they were to do it, I'd prefer it just be an ensemble instead of it built around one person. I absolutely love these movies, but it's just a way to go if you wanna differentiate it. Plus it just makes sense given the concept.

Even if you do that, you are still going to need a team leader.
So, ultimately, your going to have a star that the films revolve around, team or no team.

I feel like the series could possibly live on after Cruise departs but you need someone in the lead role that’s going to draw people in. I know that times are different now and big name actors don’t always guarantee hit films, but I feel like finding the right combination can be a recipe for success. Cruise may not be a draw on his own anymore but the combo of Cruise and M:I is still a draw because fans associate the those two things with quality. If Cruise left, you’d have to have a lead (or a couple of leads, maybe) that people would be willing to take a chance on. Otherwise, you’ve got another “Bourne Legacy” situation on your hands (which is funny since there was a time when they supposedly wanted to turn Renner into the M:I franchise lead).

If Cruise steps aside from these, you're going to want to leave it 10-15 years before doing another take on it though. For anyone under like 40, Cruise is MI.

More than any one actor "is" Bond, for sure.

Another possibility is rebooting by using the team leader from the first season, Dan Briggs.

He was played by Stephen Hill who later went on to be well known as the original DA for Law & Order.

Tom Cruise will be receiving an award at CinemaCon on Wednesday
Christopher Mcquarrie will also be in attendance.
At Cinemacon, studios often display new trailers and footage.
So , it is possible we might hear about something new for Fallout later this week.

But there has been no footage released and what I heard about the presentation was VERY spoilery.
