I do hope Rebecca comes back for the next one if it happens. Would suck if they started that certain thread but not have it continue.

Outstanding film in it's own right and as a link to the previous. One of the action films of the decade. Absolutely loved it. 9/10. Plus Vanessa Kirby was amazing in it, she is going to be huge based on this and The Crown.

I have been hearing the movie has call backs to several of the other Mission films.
Mcquarrie says there is only one that he INTENDED as a callback.
he thinks people have very creative imaginations on the rest.

He's not a fan of fans.

My ranking of the series:

Fallout

Rogue Nation
Ghost Protocol

Loved this flick, it was superbly crafted. I'd have to say my only gripe is that the action in the other films is more... fun? I dunno how to articulate it, but the action scenes in this one were very visceral and exciting, but it's like it was too dramatic or something. I dunno.

In GP and RN there were still high stakes and insane action, but in those movies it just seemed like the filmmakers wanted to craft fun sequences, and Fallout's chase scenes were just brutal and intense. Not that it's bad, but this film overall wasn't as "fun" for me.

Well, I don’t need a lot to be satisfied with a film like this.
I think that I am going to really like it.

GP- We had the faulty glove flying away comically complete with a "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE........" noise

RN-Benji in the car chase

Motorcycle chase I would say it's when Hunt fakes out the other driver. That was cool

Absolutely, this movie was awesome. I definitely plan on seeing it again, I'm just saying I left each action set piece almost feeling exhausted because there were very few moments of levity and the score was very dramatic. Again, these are not bad things! But the other films had moments in the action where it felt like the filmmakers were having fun with the action, whereas this film felt very serious.

And maybe it's just because there's no big heist, that certainly could be it.

That heist stuff is complex to write.
For me, no stunt in the franchise tops the Vault sequence from the original film.

My review

Without a doubt, I loved it. Where the Brits have Skyfall as their crown jewel for spy action thrillers, we now have Fallout. It's insane how Christopher McQuarrie was able to craft and improve the series. He was even able to fix his own mistakes in the last movie. This movie knows how to create spectacle in the largest sense possible. In this day and age of green screen and superheroes, this was able go above and beyond and show you how blockbusters are really done. Every action set piece is like a movie by itself. They don't take any shortcuts with the action. They also know how to use their score when it's needed. And as for the story, it's probably the most focused out of all of them. It's nothing you haven't seen before, but they use it to great effect. It's almost like a "Greatest Hits" album of spy action cliches. Performance wise almost every brought it. I was a bit iffy on Henry Cavill at first, but he really starts to shine as the story progresses. If I have any complaints, it would be a couple of moments where it starts to drag. Overall, it maybe one of the best spy action film of all time. It managed to top Ghost Protocol by a hair which was shocking.
9.5/10

Oh she will. I suspect McQuarrie is low-key doing his own trilogy within the series. Hence why he also [blackout]left Solomon Lane alive.[/blackout]

I also feel like they can't get rid of her in the same way it would feel wrong for Benji or Luther to disappear. She is now part of the team, unlike so many others that are just passing through.

Just got home from a late showing.

First impressions are that I loved it. Have some minor gripes, but overall it might be my favorite of the franchise. Will have to watch Rogue Nation and this back to back to decide.

Current ranking:
Rogue Nation/Fallout
Ghost Protocol
MI
MI-III
MI-II

Will give more in depth thoughts in the morning.

Serious question... Why is comic relief an absolute necessity? Mind you I grew up with 80/90's action films which most did have humor in them but frankly take something like FIRST BLOOD and cutting the little amount of "humorous" elements it had would not take away much if anything from the overall quality of the film. Or look at the LETHAL WEAPON series. There's humor in 1 and 2 but when even more humor was added to later installments it didn't necessarily translate into overall better films.

So again, I ask... is a certain amount of comedy/humor absolutely necessary? I think that there's a bit of group think going on with the audience these days when it comes to that. Plus... I don't know the trailers showed quite a bit of funny stuff in my opinion.

You not liking people liking humor is becoming a theme, old man. I fear you're slowly morphing into Clint Eastwood. The chair-talking version. :oldrazz:

Well, Fallout is currently out pacing Jason Bourne, an action sequel not known for its humor.
I do think humor helps with the bottom line ( box office).
Some people don't like action movies that are TOO intense.

According to Deadline, Fallout is currently estimated to make 61.2 million dollars this weekend.
That would make it the second best opening for Tom Cruise behind War of the Worlds.
Also, it is the first time that a Mission Impossible film received an A Cinemascore.

And without Moviepass at that.

Ghost Protocol will be on FX tonight from 8 to 11pm.
They will rebroadcast it tomorrow from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
Right before back to back showings of Rogue Nation at 8:00 to 11:00pm & 11:00pm to 2:00am
