Mission: Impossible - Fallout

Obviously don’t know what Cavill’s role is but assuming he’s not a villain, would love to see him, Hall, and Pegg as the new field team while Cruise is the IMF director.

He is playing moustache baton carrier for Cruise....

Cavill's way too "nice" for Bond, unless they want to go all Roger Moore again. Has the look, has the confident/suave thing down - which totally worked fine for The Man From U.N.C.L.E., but Bond has that vicious borderline-psycho element to him too, which'd be pretty laughable coming from Henry. Guy oozes "boyscout"ness.

Fallout's a pretty cool title for an MI flick, like the single word element. Does give the sense it's going to be another nuclear story, but whatever, that fits MI to a tee anyway.

Well how many Bonds have actually been "borderline psycho"? Only really Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig.

Connery was tougher and had a cruel streak, but he was hardly borderline psycho.

Lazenby certainly wasn't.

And then you have Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan. Let's not forget Brosnan. Are you in any way suggesting he had that "borderline psycho" element to him? That would be pretty laughable in itself to suggest that. He also was confident and suave but seemed rather wimpy and too much of a pretty boy.

It was often a stretch believing he was beating up all these other people. It's almost as if he had to make a conscious effort to appear a little tougher, otherwise he could easily drift into Remington Steele dandyish territory.

Footage of his foot breaking. He completed the shot and that take is in the film.

Oh, man. That was painful to watch. That stunt is a craaaaazy too. I can’t believe they actually did it that way. Cruise is a legend.

Right, it's a good point that only really Dalton and Craig have really leaned into that part of the characterization. But yeah, arguably Brosnan had a bit of the cold-killer in play in Goldeneye, even if it was tempered quite a bit from what the other two did. Obviously less so in his other films though. Connery had it too, though obviously "by acceptable 60s standards", by now it probably seems pretty tame, but the "natural assassin" stuff was there.

I guess my point is that they're probably not going to "Roger Moore" any potential Bonds going forward, the charming suave thing played up majorly over the "badass" stuff. You can have both, sure, and ideally you would, but it just kinda seems in the cultural climate now they're going to want something a little closer to the Craig "feel". Cavill's great and all, I just can't see him bringing that type of intensity to a Bond performance, and if he does it might come off sort of inauthentic/forced or whatever. He's one of those guys that just projects "nice wholesome guy" totally subconsciously.

To each their own though. And he's a great addition to a MI flick.

Tough as hell. Also i got to say i love the coverage on all 3 shots. Excited to see how they'll cut it.

Do we know he's the villain in this yet though?

Yep.

Henry is playing the villain August Walker.

From the sound of things Cruise and his team spend much of the movie chasing after Cavill's villain.

Cruise also said the movie title fallout fits in thematically with the movie which sees much of the previous actions coming back to haunt Cruise and his team.

Sounds cool. Still disappointed Renner couldn’t come back. This sounds like it’ll be a trilogy closer and he was pretty important to both the last movies so I’m gonna miss seeing him in there.

It looks weird, from the "reality/physics" standpoint, there's no way he's gonna land like anywhere on the building. :woot:

He wasn't supposed to make the roof in the scene. He was always meant to fall short and catch his the edge of the building. The problem is that his foot hit the side of the building first.

Yeah, shame really. Damn scheduling conflict. I wonder if the story was tweaked to exclude him or they checked before finalizing it.

I have to say that Cruise looks like he's storing cotton wool in his mouth now. I don't know why he looks like this, because not everyone whose faces put on weight look like this. He could call himself "Cottonmouth Cruise" now.

Painkillers probably as his ankle is broken. To me he only looked this way post accident. Makes sense also as he was in hospital and unable to keep training. For sure this affects your weight and overall look.

I hope they don’t try to pull a Spectre or Fate of the Furious where Cavill is the real mastermind behind everything from the previous movies.

Solomon Lane is the bad guy. Cavill's Walker villain is probably part of Ethan's team but with a double agenda and frees Lane and sets up Ethan.

How do you know that?

Set photos and based on info they mentioned on Graham Norton's show.

-set photos of Solomon Lane being transported from prison outside

-Tom and Co stating Henry plays the antagonist but Solomon Lane is the villain

-Tom mentioning they spend a majority of the time chasing Henry's character in the movie

-When asked what they did previously that day (shooting before the show), Simon Pegg mentioned some details and finished with "getting kicked in the face by Henry". Might have been a joke but I think that was actually the scene he shot.

-A photo shown on the show which had chase between Cruise in a helicopter and Cavill in another one

-They mentioned a scene in a car with Henry, Ving, Simon and actor that plays Solomon Lane. This is an assumption but very likely this is where things take a turn and both bad guys escape

-big chase mentioned around Paris

There were a few other bits but I can't remember all of them. They had the above shot on the show, a shot of Rebecca in motorcycle looking gear standing in middle of a street, a shot of Simon & Ving on a speedboat (looked like Paris) and the other photo of the two helicopters chasing after each other. The rest of the photos we've seen already.

Ah, okay. Thanks! Haven’t seen the full Norton interview yet.

I’m hoping this role allows Cavill to stretch his acting chops a bit. The brief moment where he was evil or deranged in Justice League was one of the better parts of that movie and made me interested to see how he might do as a bad guy.

While I absolutely love this franchise, the addition of Henry in this as the villain, combined with his look and what's been shown so far, this is what makes me most hyped for this.

Oh and then it about the car scene:

this is really coming off as something new to series almost a direct sequel to
rogue nation or even making ghost protocol, rogue nation, and now fallout come off as trilogy. so very intresting.

Super hyped for this. The showed a bunch of cool looking BTS pics during the Graham Norton interview. Can't wait till the super bowl.

From CBM's article but shown on Graham Norton's episode. Notice Henry Cavill hanging out the helicopter with a big machine gun behind Tom's helicopter. Not sure if she was joking but Rebecca said the others were in the box/net that's being dragged by the helicopter in the last photo.
