Looks like Rebecca is on the shortlist to play Bella Donna Boudreaux.

LOL, she and Channing Tatum would make such a weird couple. Honestly, she could own that role, but - it hurts me to say this because Gambit was always my favorite X-Men character - I have zero interest in that movie, so I'd rather see her get some OTHER superhero movie role.

That hug at the end was one of the most sexually tense hugs ever. :o

I'd rather see her in a superhero role that matters. Not wasted on a Gambit solo film.

I was late to the cinema and as I took my seat Ethan and Ilsa were just finishing off the last goon......yes, I missed the plane sequence.

Thankfully I had a couple of minutes to simmer before the incredible Opera house sequence started. That is one of the greatest sequences I've ever seen, the editing is brilliant as you never lose track of where all the moving pieces are and I love the shots as the various characters actually pass each other in the background, plus it's all set in sync to the operatic classic.

The sequence sets the tone for a breathless cat & mouse chase across the globe as Chris McQuarrie imbues the film with spark spy banter and a dash of humour while he and his editor deliver the crispest and cleanest shot & cut action sequences you're likely to see.

The underwater sequence at the Taurus was truly the sister sequence to the Langley infiltration, the car/bike chase is an adrenaline rush, especially the bike section which moves at a velocity and with a visceral energy few chases can match. and I liked the finale with the Prime Minister and the stand-off between Ethan and Solomon Lane with a nicely shot shootout mixed in.

Tom Cruise is on top form as Ethan Hunt, his energy and charisma drive the film along with the breakout Rebecca Ferguson, her Ilsa Faust is mysterious, deadly, sleek, sexy and sophisticated, every bit the equal of Ethan and sharing his similar ideal, how this informs their relationship is summed up beautifully in their final scene together.

Benji, Brandt and Luther are all on their game in support of the lead tandem and Solomon Lane makes a creepy and formidable villain, while the plot is full of the high stakes twists and turns and cloak & dagger espionage that makes these films so much fun.

A thrill ride from start to finish and my favourite movie of the summer.

9.5/10

Which opera scene do you prefer? This one or the one in Quantum of Solace?
This one by far. Love how Turandot the opera was well used in the scene. Love the set pieces and suspense since I didn't know what the other two henchmen were up to whether they're there to kill Ilsa, the Chancellor, or each other.

NO REBECCA! Don't do Gambit - the movie! I'm also not going to see this movie since I strongly dislike Channing as Gambit. If she does get the role I hope she owns it and hopefully there's no romance between Bella Donna and Gambit. I prefer Gambit with Rogue, but Fox completely messed up Cinema Rogue.

Well Hunter, I know it will be difficult, but I'm afraid you'll just have to see the movie again. Not only did you miss the plane sequence, but you also missed the key first moment between Hunt and Lane that sets up the symmetry which pays off in the denouement. You just need to bite the bullet and give it another go. Sucks I know. :D

So better or worse than Ghost Protocol?

Love your review HR! Too bad you missed the opening scenes. I agree with flickchick, you need to see it again then! :D

Was looking through some pics of the movie and remembered this one and it wasn't in the film. I wonder what scene this was supposed to be.

Seems like a toss-up, with the slight edge going to GP for the majority around here. I personally thought this one was better, though.

BOM is predicting a weekend drop in the 30s and a weekend gross of about 35M. That is very, very strong.

That would indeed be an excellent hold. Hope they're right.

And don't forget the credits and the title theme. That always puts me in a "f+++ yeah!!!!" mood for the entire thing.

Ahhh shucks, I guess you're right Ladies, I'll have to go see it again. :D I did get the [BLACKOUT]box trap [/BLACKOUT]symmetry though as I recall the clip in the first trailer.

Given Ilsa's last line to Ethan I really hope it means she'll be back for the 6th film, I just can't see a reason not to bring her back and any new actress would have a mountain to climb to get close to how good she uis.

Oh yes, love the opening credits sequences to these movies. They're always great. Except M:I-2. Which pretty much goes along with my feelings on that movie as a whole.

A tribute to Tom's favorite movie

Rebecca Ferguson stole the show, give her a superhero film.

The action and comedy was awesome in this... bad guy almost touched PSH, but everything else in this film stood up or surpassed anything in a previous M:I film.

The filming was outstanding as well, some stunning stuff and a nice benefit to a franchise getting slightly long in tooth.

M:I RN
M:I III
M:I
M:I GP
M:I II

Your ranking is similar to mine

She was my #1 choice, but then I thought about it more and two thing stuck out to me:

1. The Carol Danvers job is still open as far as I know.

2. There's such a French/Cajun aesthetic to Gambit and his mythology.

So I actually think that Lea Seydoux might be a better choice for this particular part (plus she's a good actress herself, and a MI alumni). Let Rebecca play Captain Marvel. :cwink:

Agreed, let Lea Seydoux get the part and I think she looks better opposite Channing than Rebecca.

Down through the years I've tried watching the first MI a bunch of times, but could never get more than a half an hour into it, incredibly boring. So I never bothered with the other films.

But GP was on TV lastweekend, & with the great WOM on RN, I thought "F*** it, I'll try it", and found it to be very enjoyable. So now I'm debating wether I should go back and watch the first 3, or just jump straight to RN.
