I’m a little iffy on Miller after that mediocre Terminator movie but I suppose that movie’s failure might have more to do with the fact that (IMO) that franchise has nowhere left to go, so much so that Miller’s film basically undoes the first two movies.
That said, Deadpool was amazing and the action sequences were all better than anything in this MK movie so yeah, he’d probably do well here.
I enjoyed this movie, though, it seems like it helps to not be a hardcore MK fan. If you don’t have any expectations or background knowledge of the characters going in then the movie is dumb fun.
As much as I love MK95, I don't know if I can call it a better movie. It's just as stupid, but in a different way. Christopher Lambert is in a completely different movie from everyone else.

Both are equally dumb, Mortal Kombat as a whole is really dumb (sorry, it is), but the original film does have a certain B-movie charm to it. It captures that 90s flavor, and there's some actual chemistry between the leads. And it's got dat soundtrack going for it.
There are some charmingly dumb moments in the new one, but it's just hard to capture it the same way in a modern blockbuster.
Mortal Kombat is very much a product of the 90s, and that's why the original film just feels right IMO.
After watching this, I can even see why he didn’t get the Iron Fist role. Granted, I think that also had to do with Marvel mandating a white actor in the role but... honestly, as bad as Finn Jones was, he was a better lead than Tan was in this.
****, this movie was so awful it has me complimenting Iron Fist.

The Mortal Kombat games are definitely pretty tongue-in-cheek for sure, but they've crafted a really expansive mythology for themselves. And a lot of that was missed in MK95. I do agree that it's a great 90s flick, but it's really not that great of an MK film.
Not sure about a title but I'll be happy as long as they make up a new character out of thin air to be the next lead rather than use any characters from the lore.
The last thing we need is more actors that can't fight in lead roles, let alone expensive ones. There's plenty of charismatic actors/martial artists that can step in a play Johnny.
I walked away not caring about what an MK2 had in store for these characters. That’s the opposite of what I felt with the original film.
A lot of issues with the film. Biggest for me was that these characters weren’t fun/entertaining to watch except for Kung Lao and I guess Kano (up to a point) outside of their fight scenes.

I find Dark Fate really underrated and have grown to like it a lot over time. Miller does well with characters and r rated action so he would do well with MK for sure.

I think my problem with Dark Fate (aside from the whole John Connor thing) was that the liquid metal effects somehow look worse than they did 30 years ago. The T-1000 still holds up when you watch it. If you can’t do better than that in terms of spectacle, I think it’s best to just let it alone.
Zack Snyder is probably the best person to helm MK if I’m being 100. No matter your mileage on his DCEU contributions (I am a fan, but have my issues), I feel we can agree that what he gravitates toward as a filmmaker is all on explicit display with MK.
