Mortal Kombat

i was just watching the rundown (awesome fights) and was thinking, if they had that little guy that's doing all the flipping and crazy-fast punching in the jungle scene in a mk movie, or a fight with that kind of speed and energy, that would be mind-blowing. the fights in the first mk movie were cool, for their time, but they would definetly need to update the fighting styles with what can be pulled off in a movie nowadays. not saying i wouldn't want to see a fight in the vain of scorpion vs johnny cage, cuz thats still great, but something more than matrix-style blocking and deflecting. i understand they trained the actual actors for something like that (which i believe should happen more often) but its too clean looking. not suggesting that they NEED to show bones breaking in peoples faces, altho i'd be all for that, they just have to come off with a sene of realistic fights to the death. the actors or choreography needs to look intense, fast and above all else, brutal. with a combination of some abilities thrown in there, it would make for a great scene every time.

that being said, they should reboot the franchise sticking as close to the consistent storyline from the games. it shouldn't be johnny cage alone fighting goro, but with the help of sonya and kano (as in the original games storyline). during this is when scorpion would kill the older sub-zero, because that definetly needs to be a sub-plot (scorpion seeking revenge).

also, i was doing some reading up on the characters and their storylines though the games on wikipedia and found it interesting that bo rai'cho was liu kangs teacher. if they never make enough movies to use him as a main character (deadly alliance/defiance) then he should definetly be shown as his teacher in the movie

It's been years since I seen Mortal Kombat, I thought it was okay. Maybe I'll give it another viewing.

^^ that man of awesomeness is Ernie Reyes Jr and that who I want casted as Kumg Lao in a MK reboot film :)

Scorpion looked uber badass in MK: Annihilation and so did Sub Zero. Too bad they were in that poo fest for 2 minutes. Or maybe that's a good thing.

All the more reason to give them their own movie... R-rated and done right. :ninja:

I vaguely remember Annihilation, and that's probarbly a good thing.

I didn't really like Scorpion and Sub-Zero from Annihilation. I think they were much better in the first one. I did like Smoke and Cyrax though.

There was a second Mortal Kombat movie?</ignorance>

Personally if they tried to remake it I think it would suck. There's obviously something about it that people connect to within it. It has a great fun spirit and it's enjoyable, and I think in this time (where the studios have assumed that we want to see dark depressing movies thanks to Nolan) it would fail miserably unless it had the perfect writing team and director which is rare for a video-game movie, let's face facts. Don't remake it.

What do you mean thanks to Nolan?

Mortal Kombat is suppose to be dark and gritty, it isn't Street Fighter we are talking about here. I think if it was remade with a proper, accurate story and characterizations, decent, realistic, brutal fighting then it could be awesome.

All the fights in the original films just seemed too staged, they didn't look real. They were reeling from punches before they were even thrown and don't get me started on the terrible way they fell down when they were hit. Pathetic.

This is what I don't understand hasn't Hollywood learned from its mistakes. If you throw too many characters with too many backstories it makes the movie seem plotless, and confusing. Looks at SM3,Xmen and other movies if you add villains just for the sake of it then its doomed.
If they do the tournament thing I think they can add some xtra villains w/o having to do a backstory...But concentrate mainly on one or two villains with a few henchmen....Please no Animalities!!!!
First one just had bad acting, and a weak plot and some weak fighting(subzero fight was a joke, made him look like a *****).
Second MK movie was a total joke, bad acting, bad actors, weak fighting, scorpion/subzero were pathetic, and the guy playing subzero was gay looking...it was a total joke..I only really enjoyed the smoke fight and cykor fight sort of...The whole animality stuff was a joke they might as well just done a Babality move..

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that, the first MK film is superior to Annihilation. I didn't find the acting bad at all, all of the characters featured delivered the same personality as portrayed in the game. I didn't find the fighting weak, although yes, Sub-Zero did get whooped, he still did some pretty cool things. Annihilation tried to hard to throw in as many things as possible thinking that's what fans wanted, and they failed miserably. Adding Animalities to the fray was pointless and it just didn't look good at all. The costume designs seemed to lean more towards the "meh" side as well. Scorpions costume in the first film looks way better than the one in the second film IMO. If they're planning to do a reboot of the franchise, I hope that they only try to deliver something along the same lines of the first film and not try to go over the top and see how much of the character roster they can fit in a 2 hour film.

The fight scenes in both were pretty crap IMO. They just seemed so staged. There is a part in the Sub-Zero vs Liu Kang fight where Liu kicks him, Sub-Zero does some stupid little roll then falls over. It looked like something out of Power Rangers.

The fights seemed staged, but I still thought they were nicely choreographed. The Sub-Zero fight was the most disappointing of the bunch.

The fights in 2 looked more staged than in the first one though. That movie was just overall bad.

lol i think i know which one your talking about, he did like a cartwheel, landed perfectly, somehow he staggered, then he turned and looked back at Liu Kang,

lolz yea! The best fight in both films was Liu vs Reptile. That I admit was awesome.

Just a little over the top. Liu got kicked through a wall that was massively thick. But he was still fine to continue the fight. It also really bothered me how they didn't even get bruises. I knew they weren't going to show and mutilations, but they didn't show anything. I think there was one drop of blood in the entire Movie.

i still watch this movie on VHS....

I have it on my PSP. :D

I know...the games ARE dark and gritty......so why wouldn't someone want a dark and gritty MK...and also what does nolan have to do with any of this?

Any how, Both Mortal Kombat films SUCKED HARD!!! The charecters were terrible...Im not expecting anything oscar-worthy but they can give audiences an interesting story and the fights should be BRUTAL...Im talking blood, guts, decapitations, spine ripping, ect. The first film was really crappy and charecters that couldve been interesting, like Raiden, were butchered and very Power Ranger-like
And also Sub-Zero was so bad in the movies and Sub Zero is probably the BEST mortal kombat charecter!

I haven't got a clue, ask the guy who I was replying to, he mentioned Nolan bringing all this darkness upon us. :hehe:

yes...now-a-days both MK movies suck, however, back in 95, when it was released, the first one was the $#!+!!!

Yea when the first one came out I used to love it. Just the music was bad ass on it's own!

TECHNO TECHNO TECHNO TECHNO!!

*waves glow sticks around like a nutcase*

yeah...i was just getting into techno when that movie came out so when i heard that they were using techno music i lost my gord.

HAHA :hehe:...Mortal Kombat theme is the BEST!!

MOOOOORTAAAALL KOMMMMMBAAAATTTT!!!! / techno guy voice.

The Mortal Kombat Theme was awesome. But I generally liked the Soundtrack used in the movie. Especially the Track that plays during Reptile's fight.

foreal...it's like THE Mortal Kombat theme song. if they ever make another movie and they don't have that song for the credits then it won't feel like a Mortal Kombat movie to me, hehe.

the MK soundtrack is one of the first soundtracks i owned.

It's a shame they never used something similar for the games.
