Mortal Kombat

Anyone else have trepidation over this? The web series was ok for its limited budget, but even taking that into consideration it had a very cheap feel to it. I'm glad the guy is clearly a passionate fan, but that's not even half the battle. You still need the talent to bring that love to life in a meaningful way.

The series had it moments but overall it still felt very fan film-ish.

Ryan and Chris as Johnny Cage are pretty obvious and boring choices imo, they've played these cocky guys before, more than once. I'd prefer some not so obvious casting choices.

Karl Yune would'nt be bad

These two would be perfect for Lui Kang and Kung Lao

Donnie Yen for Kung Lao.

So what kind of plot do people expect/want?

Donnie is awesome but he's too old. My guess is Hollywood is going to get a younger Asian actor.

The first tournament. I think it can be conveyed in the movie.

I always felt the first movie had a heart. I could relate to the characters and care for them, with the plot about Liu and his brother or Cage and his growth as a character. I hope the same for this new one and that it isn't just mindless battles.

Eh dunno, I watched it recently and that first film really doesn't hold up well at all.

Kung Lao is read in Chinese as 公老 (Gōng lǎo) and is roughly translated as "Old Man". Apparently.

I've always wanted it to open with the Great Kung Lao beating Shang Tsung and seeing him being defeted by Goro. All before the opening credits. With basically the plot from the first game and movie.

But I like what you said here

Perhaps a series of short stories with different character point of views intertwining could be an option.

Scorpion or Subzero should be the main character, they're the most popular/iconic characters from the series.

& if you have to go with someone else, atleast have Kung Lao be the hero. I freakin' hate Liu Kang.

Here in lies the problem, everyone's got their favourite character.

Maybe the best course of action is not to have a main protagonist. Perhaps a series of short stories with different character point of views intertwining could be an option. I dunno, I think something different needs to be tried here other than simply following a single character arc through a fighting tournament.

YES this is what I would like to see. Perhaps we could see stories featuring the Lin Kuei/ Shirai Ryu, the Black Dragon/Special Forces, the Shaolin Monks, Outwrold Warriors, then have them all converge at the end with the tournament. This probably wouldn't work unless its a 2 hour + movie so its very unlikely, and would require some masterful story telling that I'm not sure the director is capable of. Oh well, one can dream.

Do we know the budget?
I heard it's around 100 million.

Yeah, I think this should should be taken into account. I doubt we're going to see Captain America or Green Lantern in this.

I could see Yvonne Strahovski as Sonya but I can't think of any other blondes with action on their resume. :woot:

I wouldn't mind seeing a few guys from the web series return. I expect Michael Jai White. I liked Darren Shahlavi as Kano, never got to see Matt Mullins as an overly cocky Johnny Cage, I like Ryan Robbins but I want a traditional Raiden, Ian Anthony Dale.

BF: Both “Rebirth” and “Legacy” were more grounded and realistic than a lot of us are used to from certainly the first two movies. Is that what we should expect from your movie?

KT: Yes, my sensibilities lean more toward realism as opposed to the more mythological stuff that Mortal Kombat automatically has. You can expect more of that instinct in the feature version. It will be more realistic and gritty than the last two movies, but also a very big story.]

Facepalm.

It would be great if there was some way to change a persons hair colour, that way brunettes and redheads could get the role of a blonde haired character.:o

But seriously, Strahovski wouldn't be too bad, I suppose.

I agree. That way the film could focus key characters without having to ruin characters arcs by switching roles and all that.

Liu Kang needs to take on Shang in final kombat.
Scorpion has to fight Sub-Zero.
Sonya must fight Kano.
Johnny Cage has to be arrogant:oldrazz:

Har har. That's never taken into consideration when it comes to fantasy casting. The Queen for Reptile.
