Still Chris Evans. It looks seamless. There is the tiniest bit of uncanny valley when looking at Younger Downey Jr. in Civil War.

The Downey one is the weakest but still pretty good. The other choices are tough. I think the Atwell one is the most seamless, it actually looks practical.

I did actually think it was Atwell in make up at first.

But I think de-aging Douglas was phenomenal. The way his face moved etc was just staggering. It was like 80s Michael Douglas was there.

The problem I have with Atwell is that, while it's well done, I find that it slightly loses her features in the final product. It looks like a genuine old woman, but I find it harder to actually see Hayley there. I think they could've kept the darker eyebrows and maybe kept her nose a bit more prominent. She normally has quite flaring nostrils and that distinctive trait seems a bit lost.

Douglas was well done, but I don't think he quite looked like that at the time of Wall Street. This is like a slimmer version of what Douglas was actually like in real life. He had a larger face and slightly more of a double chin.

This is what he actually looked like:

And you can see it more clearly in actual moving video. His skin seems pulled tighter round his face in the Ant-Man flashback, particularly around his chin compared to in real life:

The CG is more like the face structure of what old Douglas is like today after he had lost weight after having been ill. But his face didn't develop that way back in the 80s.

The only issue with Steve Rogers was how big his head was. It looked out of scale to me especially coming out of that thin neck.

I would like to be able to watch these scenes without knowing something was going on. In all cases, I found them a little distracting, but I'm not sure if that's because the effects were actually off or if I just knew it was CGI and that distracted me from being immersed in the scene.

It would be interesting to see one done with a character/actor I didn't know and didn't realize it was CGI. Then after I had viewed it I could judge if I had actually noticed something or it had been seamless and undetectable.

I don't think they could really have shrunk his head though, because how would one's head grow in that machine? Maybe they didn't have to make his neck so thin and his proportions so extreme.

I would say Douglas is the most well done on a technical level, but not the most accurate to real life. It's more like a Douglas that never was.

It was between Atwell and Douglas for me, but I ended up going with old Peggy.

Pretty much. The thing to do is to watch these films with someone who isn't as immersed in these movies or celebrity and ask them afterwards. I went through that just recently with Rogue One. My girlfriend knew something was off with [BLACKOUT]Tarkin[/BLACKOUT] but thought it was due to make up around the eyes or something. She freaked when I told her the truth.

When I watched Ant-Man with my Mom, she could tell something was off with Douglas just by his eyes.

Shouldn't they have used the real Douglas's eyes? It shouldn't be uncanny valley then.

Bruce Banner morphing from Ed Norton to Mark Ruffalo.

Like this? He's very thin and under muscled/nourished but still an an adult with adult sized skull. It looks out of balance but it's reality.

As an effect I still think it's the best especially considering it wasn't just for one short scene but the entire first act of the movie.

I recently watched the movie with someone who had never seen any of the MCU films. While watching it she remarked the lead would really be good looking if he put on some muscle.

What did she think once Evans transformed into the super soldier and looked normal? Did she realize it was a visual effect?

Michael Douglas in Ant Man look best to me. They all look good but that Hank Pym one look most real I think.

When I first watched Captain America, I thought they had used a skinny actor and super-imposed Chris Evans face over his. But from watching the clips, it looks like Evans was doing the role and they shrunk his body down.

So they fooled me just from that perspective.

Kevin Feige said that people he showed the early test footage to thought the muscle body was the effect and wondered how they added muscle to a skinny guy, not the other way round.

I have to go with Skinny Steve for this one given the heavy lifting he had to do in comparison to Hank Prime, Old Marge and Tony the Kid.

This head looks more to scale with his neck and shoulders than Chris' did to me.

Just imagine if she married Nuke instead of getting with Cap. :oldrazz: :hmr:

It's a toss up between Steve and Peggy, but I voted Steve. Younger Downey was easily the worst of these four, though he in no way looked bad.

1. Skinny Steve Rogers - Captain America: The First Avenger (better than in Winter Soldier)
2. Young Robert Downey Jr - Captain America: Civil War
3. Old Hayley Atwell - Captain America: The Winter Soldier
4. Wall Street Era Michael Douglas - Ant-Man
5. Moff Tarkin - Rogue One (keep CGI characters out of Star Wars whenever possible please, thank you.)
