True. People on this board seem to think that just because Bale was in Batman Begins, one of the most acclaimed superhero films ever (especially on the Hype), that makes him overrated. This is simply not true.

Christian Bale has been working since he was a kid and is still going strong. His performance in American Psycho is what caught me onto him, and he's done very well in pretty much every other role I've seen him in, more recently The Prestige and Harsh Times.

He's an up and coming actor that shows no signs of slowing down. I don't know how anyone can call him overrated at this point. You don't see him all over magazine covers or winning tons of awards. He's a fine actor and is not overrated. Especially not the most Overrated Actor of All Time, as this thread title suggests...

Samuel L. Jackson
Colin Farrel
Julia Roberts

BTW, Bale isn't overrated, he is just a talented actor

So? Am I going to be arrested for saying my opinion about this actor?

No, I was just kidding. You're entitled to your opinion. I just disagree with it.

Also, as for the Bale thing, while I don't think he's overrated, I do think some people do go overboard with their praise for him as well as Batman Begins. And guys, he's not really that up and coming anymore, The majorty of the public is familliar with him, even if he does try and keep a low profile. He's playing one of the most reverred characters in all of pop culture and he has several movies coming out in the next couple of years.

I dont think chris bale is overrated, he is a great great actor. Same with michael keaton. Another different issue is that i liked bale's batman and i disliked keaton's batman. But keaton is a great actor, and bale is even better.

Sam jackson is clearly overrated for me, he is good but not that good.

I agree. Tom Cruise is another one.

A long time ago I saw this actor, Lionardo Di CRapio in a cowboy movie with Sharon Stone and Russell Crowe. He was brilliant. After that, to me at least he became a nothing actor. However for everyone else he became sort of a God. Case in point, Blood Diamod. Djimon Hunsu is at least 10,000 times a better actor than Crapio would ever hope to be. Who are your most overrated actors and actresses of all time?

I have to disagree...Leonardo DiCaprio is a talented actor who has a fine share of performances in a fine share of films. His best to date I have to say is "Blood Diamond". He totally loses himself in the role as a South African mercenary. Sure, Djimon Hinsou gave a strong peformance as he usually does. "Blood Diamond" was full of some great acting from DiCaprio, Hinsou, and Connelly.

Colin Farrel overrated? If anything he's underrated- as demonstrated by the hate he's getting in this thread!

I knew he was someone to watch after Tigerland, and was eagerly awaiting Phone Booth. His performance in that carried the entire film, and was fantastic. But to the people who really say he can't act, look to A Home at the End of the World, by far his best performance. The man can act, he just needs to be more careful in picking his projects. Now that he's gone through rehab, I expect only the best from him.

Also, Michael Keaton rules. Live From Baghdad is all I need to watch to know that. Although I still haven't forgiven him for White Noise.

Marlon Brando

There I said it. While I have always thought that he is a very very good actor, he is basically considered an acting God and a legend (even when he was alive). That is what makes him overrated, because nobody is that good.

On the Michael Keaton note, I don't think he's overrated at all. He has actually shown quite a bit of diversity in his movies whether it be Batman, comedies like Gung Ho and Mr. Mom, or just creepy people like in Desperate Measures.

Your name should be "Contradictionman".

I just want to say something about the people who complain that "x actor plays the same part over and over again"

In Shakespeare's time actors trained themselves to be "the tragic hero", or "the love interest", or "the clown". And no one criticized these actors for being anything but. The idea that an actor has to train himself to be every character possible is a very, very new idea. And it's not like actors are trained to play multiple parts anyway; they're only asked to explore themselves and use they're own experiences to make the part truthful, no matter how much it seems to differ from their own personality.

And if you're going to blame an actor for playing the same parts over and over, blame the casting director. It's not Marilyn Monroe's fault that she only ever played ditzy blondes. Casting agents never looked for anything else in her. Likewise it's not Samuel L. Jackson's fault that he's always cast as a baddass with a gun. It's not that either of them didn't have the talent to play multiple parts, it's just that they play one part so well that they keep getting asked to play them again.

Adam Sandler. He sucks, he isn't funny, his movies suck, and they're also not funny.

Julia Roberts is definitely overrated.

I think people are starting to overrate Paul Walker because of his performance in Running Scared. Too bad he sucked as usual in that one and people think just because he yells and cries throughout that POS gimmick movie, that he's suddenly become a good actor. I have one word for them: WRROOOOOONG!

Julia Roberts
Halle Berry

I really dont think that people like Brando, Kate Hepburn or Bette Davis were overrated. They were as good as their fame says.

you win the thread... i can't think of another actor that gets more attention then he deserves than this guy. he honestly hasn't done a thing worth anyone's time since pulp fiction.

i actually think tom cruise doesn't get the credit he deserves for a lot of his movies. he's been awesome in i don't kow how many films, and just because he's effing nuts in real life, everybody hates on him.

who cares if he eats placenta? the guy can act!

I don't care what he eats, I used to like him before now he's in every mag or newspaper as his acting goes he's good but overrated. plus I hated WOTW and MI3.The last I saw him in a good movie was Jerry Maguire and Collateral.
