Most Overreated Actor/Actress of all time

Then who is the greatest actor for you?

that's pretty tough, there are many great actors around.

John Hurt is one of my fav's, both his theatre and film stuff is amazing. Gael Garcia Bernal is one of the best around at the moment. Cecilia Roth is a brilliant actress. Early actors like Conrad Veidt are up there as the cream of the crop. James Stewart is another fantastic actor who is a massive icon of cinema. Patrik Stewart isn't brilliant on film, but his RSC stuff is brilliant. Humphry Bogart is another fav of mine, In a lonely place is fantastic, his way of playing lots of dark characters that most would play the same, but making them all unique and challenging, especially during the studio system days. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has shown himself as much more talented actor than first expected with his recent work. Vincent D'onorfrio is a massively underrated actor also. And whilst it may sound rather pretencious of me, Peter Cadwell is definately one of the hottest actors in independant theatre and will make it huge very soon I expect! (the independant newspaper would also agree!)

^those are the ones that sprang to mind quickly

I always considered the "legendary" Elizabeth Taylor to be quite overrated.

Although that might just be because she's been coasting on her reputation for the last 35 years or so.

Now I have no doubts that you are just one of those guys who don't like Hollywood stars and try to look different, only because of their opinions.

it's not that there's anything wrong with hollywood actors, it's just a lot of the material is very unchallenging, I think DiCaprio is becoming a massive talent, when he gets dug into a decent script it's pretty cool, but to be fair, there aren't a great deal of them about. Christian Bale is a good actor to, although his last two performances i've seen, BB and prestige(not seen harsh times yet, but pre-ordered the DVD) have been his weakest of his contemporary career, but I have high hopes for harsh times and I expect him to keep his affection for great scripts rather than money projects, so we can see him in more things like the machinist and such like.

Ben Stiller
Adam Sandler
Colin Farell
Halle Berry
Will Ferrell
Angelina Jolie

I can't believe she gets oscar nods because she can make wierd faces. I mean god damn what's this world coming to.

Nicole Kidman, I can't understand a word that woman says, she whispers everything and he same faux english accent.

bale can not be overrated since 70% on earth dont even know who he is.
Yeah, but he can still be overrated within the remainder.

Man, stop underrariting such great actors as DeNiro and Brando.

And BTW, The Prestige and BB were the best of Bale

You sound like a hater of common opinion :down

Me too. He wants to sound elitist without really having any way to justify being one.

I dont care if brando read his lines in notes for the set. The result was great, the way to get it doesnt matter.

I dont know how the people could think that people like brando, deniro, liz taylor, katherine hepburn or bette davis are overrated, when they are easily some of the best actors ever on screen. And their work talk for them.

But agree in something, john hurt is probably one of the most underrated actors in story. His work in theathre and cinema is just amazing, never a soso performance, always brillaint. But never reconigzed. He is probably one of the best actors ever.

Some proofs of talent: An streetcar named desiree, on the waterfront, the godfather, julius caesar, viva zapata, the godfather, apocalypse now, last tango in paris, the godfather part two, ranging bull, mean streets, taxi driver, goodfellas, casino, aweknings, the deer hunter, heat, once upon a time in america.

To call brando or deniro overrated is clearly ridiculous for me.

But something its really strange for me. Cirus, you really think that Bogart was a clear example of brillaint acting? He was a excellent screen presence, very cool , very good, but always bogey. He played the same character in almost every movie, except a pair of them. He was cool and with a great screen presence and charsima, but not precisely the best example of acting.

I think anyone who came out of Saturday Night Live in the last 20 years has pretty much sucked wind. Alce Baldwin, and all of his creepy clone brothers, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, John Travolta, NICHOLAS CAGE!!!!!! And all of those useless actors, and actresses that trade on ther looks and not their ability, or lack thereof

Nicolas Cage? That's guy is new Robert DeNiro, he is born to be amazing actor.

Just watch such movies with him as:
Rumble Fish
Racing with the Moon
Peggy Sue Got Married
Wild at Heart
Honeymoon in Vegas
Leaving Las Vegas
Face/Off
City of Angels
Snake Eyes
8MM
Bringing Out the Dead
Adaptation
Matchstick Men
Lord of War

Nic Cage is very hit or miss, though when he's on the mark, he's really great. Castor Troy is one of the best villians in recent years. He's kind of inconsistent, though.

I agree with whomever said Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellwegger, want to add Eva Longoria (overrated for looks, and she is a crap actress too)

All the little animals is Bale's best, then the machinist then american psycho. Since when was his BB performance regarded as the best by popular opinion? No-one I know even rates it. And him in the prestige was ok, the whole film was made by it's writing though.

Just because my opinion isn't yours, doesn't mean it's less worthwhile, I just think about things more, rather than just going with the flow without cognitive thought.

^^^

Look, I don't want to change your opinion, but I think you just want to sound like a real expert. And as I see you don't like Hollywood actors only because they are well known.
