As far as movies go in the DC Cinematic Universe (DCEU) there are certain projects which are in development right now or hell even future films that could be developed that can help save this universe which in my opinion has failed for the most part. The films that can save the DCEU in my opinion are as follows:

1- Aquaman (2018)- starring Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa's Aquaman wasn't universally loved in Justice League. However, James Wan's solo movie has the potential to turn around the DCEU. Aquaman has the potential to be a game-changing superhero movie because not only is it set underwater in Atlantis but contains some of Wan's signature horror prowess to boot. Done even halfway right, it will be unlike anything Marvel and Fox have put out and will be a big shining beacon of a new and improved DCEU. Provided they follow the Wonder Woman (2017) model.

2- The Batman (????)- solo

Batman has been the cornerstone of the DC universe for decades and decades. Key being that the brand of Batman has been a staple since the late '80s but right now the character and his solo franchise are in limbo. Ben Affleck has been rumored to vacate the role but at this point will he? Now that is the million dollar question now isn't it? Provided if he leaves there has to be someone in place to take over the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Whatever the plan is Matt Reeves and DC need to reveal it sooner before later. Nobody is going to believe in the strength and viability of this DCEU until its strongest pillar is back in place.

3- Man of Steel 2 (????)- solo w/Cavill

Batman isn't the only flagship character for DC. While Henry Cavill's Superman is now a worldwide icon for the most part, Superman's presence in the DCEU has been far from universally pleasing. Justice League was, in many ways, supposed to be a Superman redemption story; however, that redemptive arc got lost in the general mess that was Justice League. The world is still waiting for that Superman who is the symbol of truth, justice and hope to make his return. However, if DC can deliver that then they can not only redeem this character but this franchise as a whole.

4- Suicide Squad 2 (2020)

Suicide Squad 2complicated what should've been an easy situation by throwing in supernatural/magical elements into a movie where they had no place or business even being there. We've already heard a lot of excuses from the cast and director along with the promise that this sequelis going to be a more grounded hard-boiled crime story. If the sequel can paint DC villains in a much brighter limelight, that would be redeeming for sure; if it can give Jared Leto's Joker his proper due, that would be a vitally important mulligan for the franchise as well.

5- Flashpoint (????)

This movie is already fans' big dark horse hope for DCEU redemption and it just might be able to deliver that. The famous storyline from DC Comics follows the massive and destructive butterfly effect that rips through the DC Universe after Barry goes back in time to change his own history. The new timeline he creates offers a vastly different version of the DC Universe and its heroes. However, even when Barry eventually rights his wrong the regular timeline gets refurbished with some permanent changes. So, even if Flashpointis a self-contained DCEU event film it could ostensibly provide an entire soft reboot of the DCEU redeeming the universe as a whole.

As far as directors go that can help turn the DCEU around there is:

Christopher Nolan
Doug McQuarrie
Alfonso Cuaron
Guillermo Del Toro
David Yates
JJ Abrams
Matthew Vaughan
Gus Van Sant
John Woo
Duffer Brothers
Elizabeth Banks
Sofia Coppola

Reeves-Batman and MoS2 would get their foundation back on track, along with Jenkins-WW2. Then they need their new characters to get things moving. Wan-Aquaman needs to work, and then GLC would be very important to the universe. And then they need to get Flash (IMO preferably not Flashpoint) and Cyborg done right in solos.

Matthew Vaughn and Del Toro may well direct DC movies, but John Woo-? Sofia Coppola?! Surely you jest sir.

Sandman
Justice League Dark/Hellblazer/Swamp Thing
Sandman
The Joker
Kingdom Come
Batman Beyond
All Star Superman

Don't ever let Jared Leto show his face again

Then in that case I would go with Kingdom Come because that basically would be like the equivalent of Infinity War; almost every hero in the DCEU all in one film similar to Marvel's Infinity War

This pretty much sums it up for me too.

I'd love to see a Flashpoint movie - but not yet. Give Flash his own solo first. Not that bothered about Cyborg tbh.

Kingdom Come is my all-time #1 comic book story and I'd love to see it done justice in live-action, but I'd rather it be the swansong of the DCEU. It's not a tale that would make sense to tell too early on.

It would be a big deal if they could finally get Superman right in the modern era.

If they ever get around to adapting Kingdom Come it should be the final film in the DCEU's narrative. Infinity War and Avengers 4 feels more like the end of an era. But there will still be more films continuing in the MCU after Avengers 4.

Absolutely.

I suspect that Aquaman will follow the success of Wonder Woman, and even though it's slated to (currently) be external of the DCEU, I'm pretty sure Shazam will provide another solid foundation too; with the uneven ground of the DCEU, it's no surprise they're not directly linking Shazam into it, rather instead they're keeping him separate, gauging their success moving forward, and can later slot him in if and when.

I think DC/WB need to cut the crap though, and get rid of all the dead wood - the Joker solo, the Deadshot solo, the Batgirl solo, just write them off for now, rather than have them hanging in the balance.

A core foundation for a DCEU, as far as I am concerned, requires three things, or more specifically, three characters; Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Currently, only one of these (Diana) is spot on, though I didn't personally mind Man of Steel. I do feel though that we need a solo Batman film, set in Gotham, that allows for the extension of other films such as Gotham City Sirens and Birds of Prey.

Unlike Superman and Wonder Woman which very much was an origin story, I think a Batman story needs to retain the idea of a veteran vigilante whilst opening the door for other projects; have scenes with Selena, Harley Quinn, Black Canary, maybe even Green Arrow (cameo?) but don't go back to Batman roots, and for the love of god, please give us Deathstroke.

As far as other characters go, considering the trouble they've seemingly had with Flash & Cyborg solo's, I'd much rather them do a ensemble-type film. Why can't we have get a feature film on more than one character? Surely the likes of Barry & Victor can be built up whilst working together? It's certainly far too early in the day to start talking about Flashpoint (although in some ways, that's exactly what we need - a reboot).

Ultimately, I feel as though DC/WB need to cut down on their projects, decide on a handful that they can commit too, and take their damn time. They don't need to compete with Marvel, and if they do their films right, they'll be just as successful in their own image.

This pretty much sums it up for me too.

That's the main thing for me. Give Flash a proper debut first. Then anything's fair game.

The only film I have an interest in now out of the DCEU is MoS 2.

I will defend MoS, can enjoy BvS/SS to an extent (but otherwise theyre both "Meh"), but JL was crap. WW was ok but felt like a run of the mill 2000s cbm.

In all honestly, I'm so turned off to the DC films at this point (and this is coming from a DC fan) that I just don't care about anything they do right now. I plan on skipping Aquaman and most likely Shazam.

A good superman film is the only movie that can instantly and comprehensively redeem the DCEU as a whole

Barring that, 4 solid franchises will have the same effect. If it's Wondy, Aquaman, Shazam and New Gods, or Wondy, Shazam, Green Lantern and Flash or if it's Wondy, Batman, New Gods and Gotham Sirens or whatever. Doesn't really much matter what it is, so long as there's consistent goodness.

I'm in the camp of reboot everything after Flashpoint. And in the new universe, keep Gal Gadot, Zachary Levi and maybe Jason Momoa if Aquaman doesn't turn out to be ****. Just hand wave it as "people look alike across the multiverse".

Hell no to Suicide Squad 2.

Aquaman
Wonder Woman 2
MOS 2
Batman (the long Halloween)
GL Corps
Justice League 2 (Legion of Doom)
Flash (not Flashpoint)
Wonder Woman 3
Batman 2 (Dark Victory)
Miracle Man and the New Gods
Justice League 3 Darkseid
GL Corps 2
Hawkman
Aquaman 2
Flash 2
Zatanna
Green Arrow
Trinity
Justice League 4 (Crisis of Infinte Earths)
Miracle Man 2

This is what the film slate should be in my humble opinion.

A Superman sequel will be an uphill battle for WB

Right now All DC films except WW will be an uphill battle.

With the right creative team. MOS 2 can make money if word or mouth is good.

I would tap Brad Bird to do it. Ava would've been great for MOS 2 as well. Or even JJ Abrams.

I think it's okay to have magic in a Suicide Squad movie. Crazy stuff like that happens often in the comics. What matters is the execution.

At this point, a Superman MOS 'sequel' with Cavill. Keep the 'tone' as ascribed at the end of JL, with that shirt rip and let it be a Brainiac film, dealing with issues of surveillance, identity, what it is to be human and carry through on where Superman is 'now', not where he was. I would use Superman:Unbound as a template (strong animated feature), but get Superman back where the 'majority' of people want him and you can build back from there.

Yeah Brad Bird has always been the guy to do Superman. If anything, he'll direct a Marvel film though.

Right now All DC films except WW will be an uphill battle.

How much of an uphill battle will it actually be though? Honest question because I think it'd be an interesting discussion. I understand that the brand has been damaged, but I think Wonder Woman proved that a good movie can and will turn that negativity around. That movie had legs because people kept saying "no guys, it's good! Go see it!" and that is why it is now the exception to the rule in your post.

The DC stable is the most iconic superhero brand with engrained fans around the world ready to throw gobs of money at a good movie, so I think the uphill battle isn't as steep as some would expect.

I think Aquaman and Shazam have a good chance at performing well - granted I can take that prediction back given a lackluster teaser, but at the moment I'm optimistic for both.
