Everyone has their favourite actor/actress, but what was that one movie that made you a fan?

Another way of phrasing the question is

What are some films that made you take notice of movie stars which you otherwise didn't care about?

Liam Neeson - Taken
I've seen Liam Neeson in many movie before (Darkman, Batman Begins, The Phantom Menace etc.) but it wasn't until Taken that I took him seriously as an actor. Boy, I enjoyed that movie, and now I like him in all his movies.

Nicole Kidman -Australia
Didn't care for her in Batman Forever (could have been any actress) and whatever else she appeared in. But Australia, as boring and over-long as I thought the movie was, had a good performance by Nicole Kidman. Especially the scene where she sings, that was funny.

Tyrese Gibson - Transformers
"LEFT CHEEK! LEFT CHEEK!" That Scorpion scene was intense, and obviously everyone remembers Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel who provided some cool action scenes. Tyrese particularly impressed me in Transformers... after that I went back to watch 2 Fast 2 Furious and hey... not bad at all!

Would like to hear some of yours.

I'd always quite enjoyed Sam Rockwell in movies until I saw Moon, which he absolutely blew me away in!

Seriously, the oscar shoulda been his...

Christian Bale - TDK
I'm not gonna say I was skeptical, but the only film I had seen with him in it was Shaft and Equilibrium. I thought he did Batman justice

Will Smith - Ali
I remember back in the day, I thought to myself once Fresh Prince ends, that would be it for Will Smith. He's suprised me at how far he came along.

Bruce Lee - Enter the Dragon
Aside from the fighting, just everything Bruce Lee stood for and at the time, Hollywood was skeptical on an Asian actual being marketable. I like his philosphy and how he always seemed to keep a cool head about things. Enter the Dragon alone IMO set the standard for martial arts films, his movies never get old to me.

Robert Downey Jr. - Iron Man
He pretty much put Iron Man in my top list of movies, I think he played that character perfect. RDJ went through alot in life and had a good amount of obstacles that he had to overcome and I think he did a great job of getting his life on the right path.

Man, did I use to hate Nicolas Cage.....I rolled my eyes every time he was on screen anywhere. Okay, there were a few exceptions, but overall I could hardly stand his horse-face.

Then I saw The Bad Lieutenant - Port of Call: New Orleans. It's the performance his entire career has been leading up to. Cage is fulfilling his fullest potential there, displaying all the traits that make him into an absolutely unique performer in Hollywood. Nobody else on earth could have played the part of Terence McDonagh as he did. He added touches that nobody but him could think of. He is undisputedly gifted.

Now, every time I see Cage in a film my interest is piqued.

I always liked the guy. I was iffy about some of his other stuff but I've come to learn that he's the most misunderstood actor ever. The m an puts his soul into everything he does, good or bad. And I admit, even if they aren't his best performances, I still enjoy them.

Robert Downey Jr. - Zodiac. The first movie I've seen him in. This was around nine months before IM and I knew he was playing it. Once I saw it, not only did I love his performance, I knew he was perfectly cast.

Tom Hanks - Big. He's one of the most likeable actors ever. And he's my favorite actor. You have to love at least one of his roles. In Big he made acting like a 13 year old look effortless. At the same time he was funny and endearing.

Leonardo DiCaprio - The Departed. Never thought much of him until I saw this. This role for me was like him coming out of the tv and bashing my head with the glass. I'll watch anything he does. He keeps getting better and better and has never missed the mark last decade.

Harrison Ford - I don't need to explain

Kevin Spacey - American Beauty. **** the haters. This movie is great and Spacey's performance is outstanding.

Jospeh Gordon Levitt - Brick. I loved his intelligence and reserved personality in this film. He was inginuitive and resourceful. I'd love to see a TV series in the Brick setting with him in the lead. Or just a loose concept like it.

^This

Brad Pitt- Se7en

Clint Eastwood-The Good The Bad and The Ugly/ Dirty Harry

Edward Norton-25th Hour

Nicolas Cage- Leaving Las Vegas/ Bringing Out the Dead

Gene Hackman- The French Connection

Hugh Jackman in The Prestige. He was a star before then, but I always found his performances underwhelming, except perhaps as Wolverine. But here he completely outperforms Christian Bale and turned me into a fan.

Nicolas Cage.

Loved him in Catch Me If You Can. Loved the film. A great concept with two of my favorite actors directed by my favorite director? Hell yes.

^good choices

I would say that Twelve Monkeys is a refreshing Bruce Willis movie even though I will always love the Die Hard Trilogy

I saw Se7en before I saw those with Pitt they are all definately worth a viewing. Speaking of Se7en

Morgan Freeman was great as cynical Detective Summerset and the first film I really paid attention to him in as well.

Bill Murray - Ghostbusters
Jeff Bridges - The Big Lebowski
Jack Black - School of Rock
Fay Wray - King Kong
Harrison Ford - Star Wars (I think that's where we all became a fan of him. Blade Runner at the least)

Yeah, Willis is a very capable actor. He can perform and kick ass. It;s cool he can latch onto crazy ideas like that. I'm not a big Gilliam fan, but I loved that film.

Yeah, Se7en was the film that made me love Freeman as well. Honestly, if you hate Morgan Freeman, you have no soul. I have never met someone, or even heard of someone saying they don't like him.

The man is God.

:woot: Delibrate Bruce Almighty reference?

For me, it was Unleashed with Jet Li.

Shaun of the Dead made me a fan of Simon Pegg/Nick Frost (yes, together) and Bill Nighy.
Hot Fuzz made me a fan of Timothy Dalton.

:woot: Delibrate Bruce Almighty reference?

Yes. :woot:

Then again, if I were an athiest (which believe me, a few latches gone and I am one) and if I had to visualize God, it would be Morgan Freeman. I mean his voice. Plus nobody hates him. There's always that. God was black before the president. :awesome:

Mark Wahlberg - Boogie Nights
Colin Farrell - In Bruges
Jason Statham - The Bank Job
Daniel Craig - Road to Perdition
Michael Fassbender - Inglourious Basterds
Phillip Seymour Hoffman - Capote

(Other than the obvious choice as Snake for Kurt)

Kurt Russell-The Thing/Big Trouble in Little China

Ray Liotta- Narc

Liam Neeson-Darkman

Morgam Freeman - Shawshank Redemption

Jim Carrey - The Truman Show or The Mask

Joe Pesci - Goodfellas

Michael Keaton - Beetlejuice and Batman

Samuel L Jackson - Pulp Fiction

Jet Li - Fist of Legend

Chloe Moretz - Kick Ass

Brad Pitt - Fight Club

Wesley Snipes - Demolition Man

Vince Vaughn - Swingers

Bruce Willis - Pulp Fiction

Brad Pitt -- 12 Monkeys got my attention, Se7en made it so.

Mel Gibson - Lethal Weapon

Denzel Washington -- Training Day (still not a big fan, but what a performance!)

Al Pacino -- Scent of a Woman, supported by Godfather (part 1)

Samuel L. Jackson -- Pulp Fiction

Clint Eastwood -- Dirty Harry

Harrison Ford -- Raiders (not Star Wars)
