Personally i'd prefer Universal stick money into the Riddick trilogy. Vin Diesel and David Twohy had extensive plans for 2 more movies. Chronicles ended on a pretty big cliffhangar. I'm very insterested in seeing what happens next.

Rock Back For Scorpion King 2

Didn't you just love The Rock in Scorpion King? Yeah, me either. I did dig him in The Mummy Returns. The bad Rock/Scorpion CGI was worth the admission alone.

Hopes that Dwayne Johnson might become the next big action star sinks further away as he preps for The Scorpion King 2. The original, the ugly kid sister of big brother Mummy films with Brendan Fraser, was released 11 months after The Mummy Returns. However the $36 million take The Rock saw Scorpion King draw in was a pale compairson to TMR's phatty $202 million payday.

Was this because Mummy writer/director Stephen Sommers only scripted and didn't direct The Scorpion King?

Possibly but Sommers won't be directing Scorpion King 2 (Or Mummy 3 for that matter). That falls to to Russell Mulcahy. Hey, in my eyes, if you want to do a sequel get the guy who directed Highlander! However, Mulcahy also directed THAT sequel and that one, well, stunk. Does it give hope for Scorpion King 2? It remains to be seen...

I am imagining The Rock refusing to reprise this role because he is too good for it now.

Oh come on guys....that movie wasn't that bad. It was like a low grade Conan movie. Plus.....Kelly Hu...barely clothed. I'd only see it if she's in it again.

The first was not a masterpiece.. but i bet most of you were entertained.

Other than the soundtrack which was an extrmemely odd mix of rock and orchestration the first wasnt that bad, it sure as hell doesnt need a sequel though.

Come on Universal, isn't there another property to make a sequel too...or how about something original. The Scorpion King wasn't a total loss, it did have Kelly Hu, but otherwise it wasn't much of anything. This has to rank up there with the most unwanted and unneeded sequel in history.

I'm no fan of Scropion King...but shouldn't the studio wait to see if RE3 even performs well before hiring Mulcahy...he hasn't made a good movie since 1986.

Casting is underway on “The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian”, a Dwayne Johnson-less sequel to the “Mummy Returns” spin-off.

Produced by Patti Jackson and Lisa Gooding, and directed by Russell Mulcahy (“Highlander”), the film will tell the backstory of the Polynesian warrior and his relationship with long time love Layla.

The film, set to start shooting in South Africa on October 1, is on the lookout for an actor to fill the Rock’s shoes. As the sides say “There is no requirement to look exactly like a young Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, but we still need an EXOTIC QUALITY: Polynesian, mixed race, Arabic, brunette. NOT blond. We also need our Mathayus to reflect the charisma and comedic elements of the character created by The Rock, especially in his warm, relaxed and humorous relationship with Layla, the young girl whom he has grown up with, and with whom he experiences a growing sexual tension.”

I really thought a genuine sequel that explored why and how Mathayus became the power-hungry conqueror we know from The Mummy Returns would've been cool and fascinating. This sounds... not so much.
