So, during the summer, I usually run about 4k a day... And every time I ran by this house which is about two down from me, I'd hear this HORRIBLE buzzing noise, very high pitched, to the point that I would actually have to put my hands over my ears and run faster. Sometimes I'd even hear it (briefly) when I drove by.

I began looking at their house to try to figure it out, and I saw this black device in their garden which a red button would light up whenever I would pass by.

I just read this article : http://www.therawfeed.com/2008/02/high-pitched-anti-teen-gadget-under.html

Turns out it's a device that spouts out a weird frequency that only people under 20 can hear. WHAT A BUNCH OF BASTARDS. (my neighbours) For putting it up. It's a middle class suburbia and Now i am probably going to egg their house this summer if It's up again, regardless of whether I can hear it still or not.

How old are you?

Also, that's hilarious :funny:

I read the title and thought your neighbours hada alarm warning them of hot girls running by. I was wrong.

I'm 20, turning 21. Over the summer I was JUST 20 though, and towards the end of the season I remember as I went by it would light up but I wouldn't hear anything, which I found weird, but now I'm just pissed haha.

I heard of those things have, but when they played the noise on TV i couldn't hear a thing.

That is incredibly odd. But smart. :o

I never believed them when I read about them before, but it finally just clicked that I've been effected by one :cmad:

I know a guy for teaches high school and has copied the noise onto his mobile phone.... He says the lulz are awesome!

I hate that ringtone.
But it doesn't always work right. Like I know kid who can't hear it on one phone, but then could hear it on another.

He says it alway works. He has copied an actual anti teenager alarm sound.

In some places, teens use that as a ringtone so that they can't be detected by their instructors. It is not used a deterrent but as a covert crap ringtone. It is annoyingly annoying.

surely this can't be real.

how can a sound only be heard by a teenager? what's the cut off age when you can't hear it anymore, or when you start hearing it?

I honestly thought it was the worst noise in the world. So shrill.....

It is yo. :ss:

Something about how hearing goes with age and s**t.

I know someone who's 30 though and can still hear the high pitched frequencies louder than I can. f**ked up. No more iPod for me.

Interesting, he says he leaves it playing all lesson sometimes in his locked draw under his bench. He says it really disturbs them.

Yep, I listened to that report and she was like 'Like this' and then I heard nothing at all. Age is getting to me....? But i heard it last year.

i can't hear it, and i'm only 24.

oh well... it doesn't seem like something that should be legal, though.

Wait, there's a frequency only people under 20 can hear? That doesn't even make sense!

Yes. :o

It's kind of like how when you hear really loud stuff and it damages the ear drum, you can't hear at that frequency anymore! Except this is mostly just because of the natural process of aging. :lmao:

My teacher did this on use.:cmad:
